I wonder what the conversation was in their car on the way home...
Loved. Every. Word.
someting happened yesterday that i thought might be noteworty enough to relate to you here.. mrs. eyz and i were invited to my new boss's home for his annual end of summer party.
it's a pretty big deal....his is a name known locally (i'll call him j.r.) a really nice interesting guy who's held a number of high level and politically connected jobs.
there was to be music, dancing, wine and reprotedly lots of well dressed, well educated, well to do and influential people (oh yes...and us) in attendance.. anyway we thought we'd make an occasion out of it and got ourselves spiffed up which involved new outfits and extra mirror time before we left home.
I wonder what the conversation was in their car on the way home...
Loved. Every. Word.
which flag will fly in the morning?
this was the question asked by a young man as he was held prisoner on a british ship during the battle of baltimore 200 years ago last night.. the british were aiming to take the city of baltimore, but were receiving heavy fire from fort mchenry 6 miles down the bay from baltimore harbor.
that young man, named francis scott key, looked desperately through "the rockets red glare" to see whether "the flag was still there.
Which flag will fly in the morning? This was the question asked by a young man as he was held prisoner on a British ship during the battle of Baltimore 200 years ago last night.
The British were aiming to take the city of Baltimore, but were receiving heavy fire from Fort McHenry 6 miles down the bay from Baltimore Harbor.
That young man, named Francis Scott Key, looked desperately through "the rockets red glare" to see whether "the flag was still there."
"Does that star spangled banner yet wave?" he wanted to know. And "by the dawn's early light" it was clear that the stars and stripes still flew over Fort McHenry, not the union jack as he and the other Baltimoreans had feared.
Francis Scott Key penned a poem to express his emotions from that night on this day 200 years ago. This poem was set to music and has become the United States' national anthem.
Last night in Baltimore we saw the Star Spangled Spectacular celebration during which fireworks were exploded from Baltimore's Inner Harbor all the way to Fort McHenry. It was deafening, and it likely sounded exactly like it did on the same night 200 years previous when there were "bombs bursting in air" and when the question was, 'Which flag will be flying in the morning?'
I wonder the same about Edinburgh this week. Which flag will be flying on Friday morning?
i'm really interested in this question because i've heard for years that if you forgo further education and go pioneering, when you have a family down the track you will get a good job because jehovah will provide for you because you pioneered.
as long as i was a kool-aid drinker, even then, i thought, "how does pioneering pay your bills?
surely education should come first.
I'm furious and sad about the old aptitude test from elementary school I found in my mother's hope chest this weekend.
I was testing 2 grade levels ahead and was in the 99th percentile.
Obviously my mother was proud enough to keep it, but there was NO encouragement to go to college. What a waste of all the 19 years after high school it took me before i finally got my degree.
this, in my opinion, is one of christopher hitchens' most concise statements about obsession with armageddon.. i'd love to have a transcript of this and just sit and memorize it:).

This seems to be the same phenomenon as hoarders who live in filthy conditions. A thing piles up here and there, soon you can't clean because of all of the junk, and a musty smell turns into a rank smell until they don't even notice the smell of decomposing rodents.
Little by little, the eye gets "blind" to the hoard and the nose becomes "blind" to the smell.
Would a JW even be disturbed by a pile of rotting bodies?
this is the daughter that told me she will never shunn me.. this is the daughter that told me dad, i pray one day you.
will be sitting with us (her family) in the assembly, that one.
day i will come back.. it was a $100.00 check with big bold letters "love you"... i'm going to frame it, she knows i don't need it..she is.
That is both sad and wonderful at the same time.

i do suffer from bipolar and social anxiety, so sometimes i do withdraw into myself.. what do you think?
am i just being weird??.
Quelly, I really think that some personalities need organized religion and others just don't. I don't need organized anything. I am bipolar with anxiety and seasonal mood disorder. The least relaxing thing I could do on a weekend after being "on" all week at work, is to get up and go to church or any other large gathering, for that matter.
Your health comes first and you just might not be a "joiner," especially of large groups. And, that's okay. Spiritual pursuits can happen on your own time and by yourself if you feel the need.
You need to take care of yourself, though, or it all falls apart.
black perosn beats up black girl for being too white or white people rapes another witness.. .
who f**king cares you morons.!.
let me explains.
This is not propaganda. These are downline effects of problems that started 500 years ago and only achieved legal resolution a few decades ago. Sociocultural resolution has not yet been effected.
The reality is that there is a racial divide in America. I think our recent discussions have been productive. Just dispensing with the taboo of talking about race is an excellent first step in understanding each other.
However, I understand that people from other countries may not want to participate in these conversations and I respect their choice to bow out.
lately, even late night comedians are starting to make fun of the president.. i hear more negatives about the president than ever before---even from his own voters.. (i had high hopes for him when he beat mccain but since then, i believe the president has been a huge disappointment)..
Fact checking on the outrage over Obama's excessive vacation taking:
Bush takes the record for most days of vacation ever taken by a US president: 879
Also, US tax payers don't food the bill. Every president pays for his own food and lodging.
(Obama is at less than 150 in his 6th year)
i'm curious, why and how did you choose your username?.
does it hold any special significance for you, is there a share-able back story?.
for me sparrowdown is a playful reference to matt 10:29 and the title of the movie black hawk down.. matt 10:29 was my go-to scrip to "prove" that god cares about us as individuals.
I am a teacher and I remember studying from the book Listening to the Great Teacher when I was very little.
I was GreatTeacher on JWS and when they folded and I came here, I discovered the name was already taken, so I added the extra "r" in honor of Tony the Tiger and his grreat tasting Frosted Flakes.
tattoos may look great for a while on a young person, but as you get older they'll just look plain stupid.
your credibility will fade as you and your tattoo age together.
your skin will be permanently stuck in a timewarp, like some old newspaper headline that once meant something but later becomes meaningless.
Anybody ever thought about getting eyeliner tattooed on? Sounds kind of scary so close to the eyeball, but wouldn't likely get distorted with age. Save a lot of money on makeup over the years.
I had a friend who had a nice little floral accent tattooed around her bellybutton. I thought it looked cute. Then she got pregnant one more time and the darn thing morphed into a giant wreath on her stomach!
