i remember witnesses in no way partaking in charitible organizations, helping out etc.
not only would they not help with other ones, but in reality there is no form of charity work at all even for fellow witnesses.
you have older ones who have spent their entire life in the wts, only to find themselves practically on the street later.
This sentiment goes back a long way. When WWI was brewing, there were clerical calls from many religions asking that people pray for a peaceful resolution to avoid war. Russell's stance was that the war was foretold and was quite necessary for the fulfillment of prophecy. Yup, it was actually going against Jehovah's will to ask for a world without a World War.

it was a copy of the court order to have my son interviewed by the court's family services.
so, no further harm done today.

ok...so the other day my husband(he is still an active witness) starts questioning me about why i come to x-jw sites.. he said the reason people come to these types of sites,is to convince themselves that they made the right decision to leave the"truth".i told him i come here to get support from others who feel they were tricked into believing something that wasn't true.he knows i feel my life has been taken away from me because i wasted so many years following their doctrines.i told him it helps me to know i am not alone in my feelings.he is still convinced that people are afraid they are wrong,and just come here to keep finding reasons to stay away from the "truth".he doesn't understand that we know what the real truth is.. i was just curious what everyone else thought about this.do you feel we are "convincing" ourselves that we made the right decision to leave?
I can see that this board would be good for folks that need that final convincing. But I've been out a long time and need no such. I have a few reasons for being here:
- I orginally joined because I noticed posters that could give me updates on all my old friends in the Franklin MA congregation. That was a very exciting thing for me. I was disappointed to hear the types of men some have become, though I was happy to hear.
- Since leaving, I have wondered how the WTS had my family and me so convinced - like leaving a magic show. So I have purchased a lot of the old books and have read many of the doctrine-based threads. Its been a little detective thing that I've been enjoying.
- I like the people here. I have gained some serious respect for many folks here. Their intensity, or their ability to deal with severe adversity, or perhaps the most significant is some folks ability to show compassion that comes from a well deeper than any I have access to.
- Some of the women here are hot

is there any common thread that connects jw's together because as far i can see jw's come from all types of families, backgrounds , races and such.. in my congregation there were many types of people,although there were quite a few dpressives and others with mild mental diseases.but there is nothing i find in common through jehovahs witnesses except their belief in that religion.there must be some common personnality types in the organistation, maybe a few dominant reoccouring ones, but i would need a bigger picture to see that i suppose.. what are your thoughts?
This is an excellent question. I think the JWs are composed primarily of a few types (lets ignore those in transition in or out of the org):
1. Those that are looking for leadership. They want to abdicate their own personal responsibility to determine what is right and wrong. They can't wait to find someone, or some group, to tell them how they should live their lives. But they do need that this new authority give them some sense that they have a relationship with God.
2. Those looking to be leaders. They are the big fish looking for a small pond. Their current goal in life is to tell others how to live their life. These people may be multifaceted, in that they are also looking for direction from higher authorities - victimizer as a victim, as it were.
3. Periphery. These are the most interesting. For some strange reason, they get to hang back, not taking direction as much as others are required. But no one seems to give them any crap about it. I am reluctant to say that they have strong personalities - they are dubbies after all. But they are subject to periodic 'marking' and rejection - yet they stay. I never understood these.

You've spent your life with the dubbies and and you haven't seen the negativity there? You're lying.
The one that's been stuck in my craw lately is the dubbie belief that people that will not convert now are actually better off dying before the great trib and the big A. Do you know that when I was about 13 or 14 my non-dub dad lost his mother to heart disease. Do you know that I actually told him that she was better off dead, because now she will be resurrected and have 1000 yers to see the light. Can you believe I said that? I can't. Do you people to forget the brainwashing and lies that would lead an otherwise caring son to say that to his dad?
That is just an example. This place is filled with thousands of stories, worse and more powerful.
The negativity is what you get. The negativity is what the org. deserves.

I don't know exactly what you mean by how long have I been out - out of the island, or out of the truth. So, what the heck, I'll be a sport and answer both: I left the dubbies as I went to college - late 70's and early 80's. I left the island about 10 years ago.
But listen, I don't know how old you are, but you may think this is neat: Remember Luis Vigoreaux? - the big television producer and game show host? Remember his wife, Lydia Echevarria the stage actress? Well if you do, you probably remember that Luis often had his daughters on his variety show and that for a couple years they had their own Sunday afternoon show. The daughters were named Glendaly and Vanessa.
Now for those not familliar with the tale: Luis Vigoreaux was kidnapped and murdered AND his wife was convicted of paying the contract killers. She was released on humanitarian grounds a few years ago (diabetes).
Anyway, I have mentioned my first wife on this forum a few times. Some may remember that she was the one that had found proof that there was a god: Barry Manilow was her proof. PR_Capone, Glenda was my first wife. We used to get around San Juan like celebs, club hopping and doing interviews. It was a fun period in my life.

OK, Xander and Mustang! Thanks for adding to the 'Jehovah ain't in the Greek Scriptures' point. I think we share a sense that the key is to show that the bible, as translated by the WTS, is flawed.

In there you will find detailed explanations of the capricious use of the transaltion rules that the WTS claims to have used. You'll also see how those translations were used to change the emphasis away from Christ the mediator toward Jehovah. Those booklets use as much of the WTS explanations as possible.
they are a quick read and well worth it.

hello......so this is my first time here......i have been inactive for about 6 years now.....i was disfellowshipped about 11 years ago......but lucky me they let me back in......but i slowly just "fell away" and now i guess i am just an outsider who no one really wants anything to do with......mine is actually a sad story of rejection.....some one very close to me actually killed themselves while disfellowshipped......i am very bitter towards the whole thing and how he was treated.....and how i am still treated.....i guess now i am just a closet anarchist (hope that is spelt right) who secretly wishes the whole damn organization would just fall apart and disappear......anyway.....i just wanted to say hi......i am interested in everyones comments and theories in here......i have one of my own on how god is either falible or screwed the whole planet up on purpose......but that is probably not the kind of thing discussed here......i hope to check in regular and get involved in the discussions......thanks

So you had a friend kill himself while DF'ed? Over the past year or so, a couple guys killed their hole families after they were DF'ed - one killed himself too, the other tried to get away to Mexico. I haven't heard enough to believe firmly that there is a causal effect, but it is disturbing nonetheless. That cult leaves a lot of casualties in its wake.
