Elders want letter from my daughter!

background: my unbaptized daughter married an unbaptized young man when they were both 18 years old.

it didn't work out and 2 years later they divorced.. now it's 6 years later, (after the divorce), and my daughter never got baptized.

her ex-husband did and is engaged to another dub.

I think it hinges on whether your daughter wants to do the ex-hubbie-still-a-dubbie a favor or not. The letter they are asking for is likely for use to document the end of one marriage so he can have another.

If dubbie-ex-hubbie was a jerk, then go ahead and ignore the request for a letter. But if you want to cause him some trouble, just reply that you would like to live up to your responsibility and take him back. Then the elders wouldn't allow the ex's new marriage.

If he was a decent guy, you could send a letter so he can get on with his own, even if is is misdirected, life.

Ever run into a DF'd person & didn't know it?

'bout 3 or 4 years before i left the borg i ran into a dub acquaintance that i hadn't seen in a while while grocery shopping.

i was at her congo for 5+ years, and she knew who i was.

as i approached her she quickly looked away and started looking at some items on the shelf.

She is totally deprogrammed. She did get a big kick when I showed her my collection of old WTS books and CDs of the first 30 years of Watchtowers. It was particularly fun to show her my old book bag - I got it as a baptism present in '74.

She didn't seem at all interested in discussing specifics - mostly interested in keeping it behind her - when I showed her the Apostacy shelf. Her dad is an elder and both of her granddads were (I guess that means they aren't any more, though I'm not positive) elders. She thought she might see if her dad wants to talk to me some day when he visits. They live close by, I think they go to a hall in Vancouver. We'll see.

It seems I have been running into dubs and x-dubs a lot lately.

A couple months ago, while I was at the gym, my seven-year-old son was playing with his close friend from across the street. When the neighbor's mother, Julie, came over to bring him home. Julie and my wife sat for a few and had a glass of wine. They started discussing religion because Julie's husband is pushing for their son to have a Catholic upbringing.

Ok, so you probably know where this is going. Julie wasn't sure what to do, she had no religious affiliation, though she had a strict religious upbringing. So she told my wife she grew up a JW, a third generation jw no less. She left when she got pregnant in high school.

I now call her Sister Daly. She calls me Brother Smith.

my dad died

dear everyone, my dad died suddenly and unexpectedly at the weekend.he did'nt turn up for a family dinner and my husband and i went to see if he was ok.he was dead.collapsed in his home.i can't stop shaking and i feel really sick.i've lost my mum and now my dad too.i wish i could sleep for months and wake when the pain has finished with me.

it hurts so much .sorry to bring everyone down-but i'm stressed at having to sort out his arrangements due to the autopsy and funeral etc and the house and my feelings.

; i just wanted to tell you all as my husband's gone for a walk and the children are asleep and i'm feeling scared about viewing his body, but i know i'll have to and i feel guilty for feeling like that.stupid thoughts racing through my mind at the moment-need to 'hear' a friendly voice .

I've bought a boatload on e-bay. You can find interesting old books - stuff with old, somewhat dimmer understanding that has been replaced by the brilliant new light - as well as pretty current stuff. Enter 'Watchtower' in the search criteria field and you will typically get between five and ten pages of items. Specifically, the books you mentioned are usually in the list.

But if you're certain you only want the ones you list, then maybe it would be cheaper, (and you'll get new books), from SOJ. (I couldn't care less if he reports service hours, studies, and placements at the end of the month).

But I would expect that you'll get a visit at your door, once he's passed your address to the local Hall. They'll also want to know if you are a former JW and from where.

I can only guess that you are not long of the org. It is difficult to imagine how one could be exposed to the his 'own new light' via research and thereafter stay committed. I wish one of my best friends (also Joe) while growing up had seen some 'new light' of his own in time to prevent his little daughter from being molested.

Good luck. I hope it works out. It just seems so unlikely to me that once you've articulated your reasons for denying unsupervised visits, that a judge would overrule you. As I read your post, I picture a judge turning to the grandmother with one upraised eyebrow and asking, "Why is it so critical that you have this boy in a private visit?"

ok so last week i gave a little of the action my brother and i gave the elders in bruckner cong in the bronx... and the p.o made an appointment to talk today at 12:30 p.m. at my house ... so guess what they never showed up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but the phone book is a great thing and we found him check this .his name is howard stern???????

so we beat him for not phoning or droppping off a note that they couldn,t make it ,as we were wasted the beautiful day in waiting,.... this is mike talking well you can guess i got poor howard on the phone what a joke an the co now these people are appointed by the holy spirt that a joke ha ha lol these people dont know there ass from there elbow this guy was in the watchtower 4 30 year and is still in the dark well i told him obout the wt inthe bomb bussisness he told me i was lieing but i told him to come with me to wall street an the un scandel as we all live in nyc myb brother was willing to pay theres day pay and take them in a limo to wall street to prove what i was saying was true you can guess even with the promise of a days pay and a 50$ steak each win or lose at the best steak house house in nyc they stilled called me a lair!!!!!!!!!

And if there ever was a group that should value the pith of the message and pay less attention to the pakaging of the messagem it is these folks. I am disappointed by those clowns that jumped on you. And pay no attention to that sixofnine. He seems mostly intent on short, content-free postings, probably to get his impressive post-count up - he very rarely has any addition to a point.

I'm gonna agree with Rich, I laugh all the way when I read your posts.

Oral Sex

ok, i'm watching the "o'reilly factor", they just aired the case of two hs students who engaged in oral sex on a bus in silverlakes maryland while several other students cheered them on and the bus driver did nothing.

the principal of the school system didn't inform the school board until after the local newspaper broke the story and he refuses to say how the students will be punished.

As for the principal: It is reasonable for him to keep the details for the punishment away from the press. As far as not reporting it to the School Board, I don't know how much time elapsed, but I don't feel this is an issue that rises to level of 'governance' thereby needing direct input from the Board. It is an administrative issue.

Those children should not have done that, participants or observers. But I have a hunch that they will be punished by the school administration. I hope it is severe enough to set an example - but it isn't exactly a capitol crime.

As for the driver, I didn't get the sense from what I read that the driver knew what happened, while it happened. And for cryin' out loud, its a bus driver. Doesn't make much more than minimum. I'm happy the bus gets to a from the school.

Its definitely something for the school to deal with. But I think the press has made a bit much of it.

i have a request.. could you perhaps state all the real facts that support the idea of the gb being inspired by god?.

i am not talking about feelings, faith etc.

but of real proveable fact...things that would be accepted in a court or that would survive scientific testing.

That took some time to write, and I appreciate the tone. But I want to point out the JW doublespeak: you start off with a resonable-sounding 'the GB aren't inspired', and then just a few paragraphs later, follow with a Watchtower snippet explaining how the holy spirit leads the FDS.

Essentially, that quote means ' we prayed about that, and God told us to tell you this.' They obviously avoid the use of the word 'inspired', but there is no difference between that word and claiming to be under the influence of 'Jehovah's spirit' - especially since they call down destruction on all who sway from the the slightest FDS teaching.

But back to the question (and OK, we'll use your words): any evidence/proof that "leadings of Jehovahs spirit direct this group of anointed Witnesses to theocratic conclusions?"

(Oh, and you never explained why you wanted those excerpts from that old book from the 20's)
