It seems like you've come a long way since you posted the first thread about this delightful spouse of yours. Be proud of yourself. I'm certain of one thing, you're going to be better off.

I am new.
by Utopian_Raindrops inok everyone...i am new.. i don't know what to say....just hello.. i am a disfellowshipped jehovah's witness...which maybe one day i will get in detail about....but right now it's still too painful.. besides if i talk about it i feel like i am talking bad about people or hindering jehovah's spirit with others.
i realy try to shy away from speaking badly of people...even if they hurt me.. what i believe in my heart is no one can truely hurt you if your standing with the creator is good in his eyes.they in reality hurt only themselves, because they hinder thier relationship with our maker.. i do not like to talk bad about any religious group realy because, i think what if jehovah some how aproved of them and then i am introuble!.
i can't remember where the scripture is but it is about the apostles and the advice was to let them go....and if they were from god then you know....but if they weren't then it would end...thier preaching and basically god would take care of them.. i feel jesus could say the things he did of religious leaders because,well.....he is th son of god and these people claimed to represent his dad.

Welcome Utopian!
Still waiting for that kick in the pants? Naw, we've all been there and remember deciding not to hear dissenting thought and commiting to stay in line at all costs. We don't consider it a character flaw.
There are a lot of people here that agree that there is no place to go. They have decided that Christ had no intention of setting up rigid organizations to interceded between man and himself.
Just keep your mind open, and we'll be happy to share opinions on any subject.

District Oversseer Comments On Lying
by twain30 induring a recent talk our district overseer made this statement:.
"for some lying becomes habitual, for others its coerced.
very very few individuals are truthful under any circumstances.

I love that quote!! "...especially to those entitled to the truth."
That very clause implies a grade of entitlement to the truth, and implies a grade of less entitlement to the truth. I clearly read from that quote that those not entitled to the truth are nowhere near as likely to get it.
Fabulous

General info for new JWs
by WhiteRaven ini'm new to this forum group.
i've joined it because i've found the demoniation (jw) very interesting at a variety of levels.
i'd like to get my own questions answered soon, but first i have a project regarding a christian denomination that has to be done.

"Apocalypse Delayed" M. James Penton, is a pretty objective history and doctrine of the j-dubs.
There is an ad banner that pops up at the top of this page sometimes for the 'Watchtower store.' You can get it there. I got mine at Commentary Press.

New to board-1st post
by kril inmy last attempts at posting were to no avail so i'm just going to test this out first and they edit and post something else.-it worked.. i have been reading a lot of the material on this website and find most of it interesting.
i'm still a witness but have some questions about bible/doctrine that haven't been answered to my satisfaction.
it seems that when i discuss things with people (i.e witness elders) they more or less don't listen to my arguements.

Welcome Bootsie and Krill.
Krill: If you don't believe the teachings at the hall, then you'll eventually have quite a motivational problem there. The JWs are a demanding culture. If you've been in it for a while, you know they can be brutally judgemantal. You might as well decide now whether you plan to abandon independant thought and stick with 'em, or lead your life as you see fit for yourself. If you're gonna leave, the sooner the better.

Spousal Abuse Thoughts
by DakotaRed ini have been having an ongoing discussion with a friend about spousal abuse.
she has come to accept and believe that i have never hit a woman in my life, but feels that i am a rarity.
i contend that i am not, that although too many men still hit their wives, they are in the minority.
-
Buster
Never. And any woman that accepts it, either outright or by excusing it as an anomaly, is doing a disservice - to herself, her children, to other women, and to her husband.

Beards--CO's 1991 explanation why not allowed
by blondie inthis audio clip is from our circuit assembly held during the 1990-1991 service year.
brother joseph howard, district overseer, discusses why jehovah's witnesses do not wear beards.. http://www.geocities.com/athens/parthenon/5299/beards.html.
beards equal what?.

I remember a black brother that had a beard - he claimed that shaving caused his facial hair to grow back into his skin - a condition fairly common among those with tightly curled hair. Those dictatorial, you-will-do-what-we-say clowns told him he had to get a note from his doctor. That still turns my stomach.
I remember the congregation being 'admonished' that although they encourage short hair, we should not have our hair 'too short.' You see, that particular style was popular amongst the homosexual community.
Yup, wear your hair exactly this length, shave exactly this way - or we won't let you in.
You know, that should be enough for anyone to see that we do not have some 'true religion' here.

DON'T GIVE JEHOVAH WITNESSES A BREAK
by Iwasyoungonce init has almost always been my experience that when encountering a jehovah witness with sword drawn to defend relgion the first demand is to establish what clan (relgion) i have been branded with.
thus the nit picking of my faith can take place.
like a tit for tat.

I liked the first paragraph. It jibes with something that I've always felt about the JWs: they seem to purposely avoid a bigger picture. It shows in their approach to the bible, in their approach to every-day rules of life. That thought pattern was one of the hardest for me to shed, even after I faded out.
Thouh there are some misc. subgroups, such as those sticking around so as to maintain familial relationships, I categorize most of those left behind, as the ones that haven't yet found the bigger picture. They are instructed to avoid the big picturem and they abandon their freedom and obey.
But you already know I'm gonna agree with you. I would never let a JW justify his faith by do a line-item comparison with mine.
