  Is it acceptable to change your beliefs?

  i have mentioned on this board before, that i think the downfall of organized religion rest in the fact that they are to stubborn to change.

  meaning, "what is, will always be.

  " as they feel their teachings are based on god and that is all that matters.

  I have to whole-heartedly agree with your statement about life's "learning curve"... however

  I have mentioned on this board before, that I think the downfall of organized religion rest in the fact that they are to stubborn to change. Meaning, "what is, will always be." As they feel their teachings are based on God and that is all that matters.

  I wish to add, that I don't believe that "organized religion" will ever "fall" or be stopped. In a way, all organized religion is part of the "learning curve". I think they are a necessary step in any spiritual development, regardless of belief system (eg. Muslim, Christian, Jew). Some people chose, out of their own necessity to remain in a system that can provide answers. Some chose (like ourselves) to use that past experience and build on it. An even organized religion, over time, changes doctrine. I know my own ideas of "God" have changed based on what I have observed through nature.

  I agree with the posts. Its done to strike "fear" into the remaining members. I remember that when I was apart of the Org, I always felt good to know Jah was "cleaning house" - makes me sick and ashamed of myself now

  last night, on "er", an intern has a dispute with a doctor about a patient's chances.

  for survival.

  the doctor asserts that a cure might be 50 years away.. the intern says no, maybe 5!

  The Bible - inerrant word of God?

  the deeper you look into, clearer picture is emerging that god had not any input in these writings at all.

  there are many verses, even whole passages which exist in some editions and in some they do not.. he evidently didn't supervised writers or copyists and we have plenty of evidences of that, his name in nt included.. since gospels of peter or thomas are not regarded as valuable and important documentations of jesus' life, only one conclusion comes to my mind.. as a moral guide the bible is an excellent book, written by... men!.

  There are certain scriptures I can respect in the fact they are "common sense". Some obviously, are not. For eg. (ugh... I don't have a bible at work - not a good JW anymore - so I can't give the chapter & verse) but is it Eccl. or Prov... the scripture about "timing". A time to laugh, cry, peace, war, etc. I like that. Or "unforseen occurrence befall them all".

  As far as the bible being a "moral" book, it depends on what era they're in. Is it moral to have "more than one wife" ... or instructions on how to treat your "concubines". The good ole' adultry test for women. How about warfare instructions (extermination) - hmmm, all in the name of God. Sorry, for me the morality of the bible is no different than morality found around the world, in areas without the benefit of the bible (eg. China). No better - no worse.

  I feel, like any "good" book it should be read. Once. Then move on, baby...

  okay, firstly appologies for it taking me, like a million years to actually get back to you good people.. i was sent a letter back and guess what... standard reply was issued!.

  i don't have a scanner (it blew up ages ago!

  ) but the main body of the letter was the same as i've seen on other threads here.

  There we go.... - is the above suppose to say its OK to become an NGO and build "support for the UN at the grass-roots level" via propaganda through the Awake! (not the Watchtower).

  Looks like a BS line of reasoning and it makes me sick!!!! Living in a country and seeking religious status is a different ball of wax, then what the Society did in jumping into bed with the UN - by the way we've condemned other religions for doing on several occasions.

  i do believe there are scam artists out there, and i'm not prone to believing in psychics, but these two are very convincing.. i don't believe its demons, because quite frankly i think they have better things to do then get to know someone's life so well they can "mimic" them after death .

  part of me is very attracted to "their message" - even the animals "cross over"... but the skeptic in me .

  I was DF'd for associating with my DA sister. She lived with me before her DA, and continued afterwards. The elders wanted her to move out. I said no. I was DF'd. Hmmmm, guess we all can't pick our own association. Plus... the 1981 Watchtower they used, as the basis with the Aug 02 KM, for DF'ing me, refered to the christian NOT RELATED or living with the DA/DF'd person.

  Bunch of bullshitters anyway. I didn't cry or lose sleep over it.

  Oh, I feel very loved now that I'm outta there. I work with a couple of active witnesses and they make me feel loved everyday

  Why doesn't this brother say the "TRUTH"... its a way of manipulating, controlling and putting fear into the members?!?!?

  I personally believe life is "recycled" but I'm not sure if our intelligence (personal spirit) goes with it. Then again, why not???? Oh well, one day I'll find out. Until then, I like to live my life like death is the END.
