To add a bit of fuel to the debate, the Congressional Chaplains undergo a security check, etc, something NOT imposed nor LEGAL to impose upon the local clergy with whom the Congressmen might otherwise seek counsel and aid. Hiring a Chaplain allows for the free exercise of the Congress.

Do JWs eat fat?
by scooter inreading some of the recent posts on the blood issue reminded me of a verse that i have never yet had a jw explain.
lev 3:17 in the nwt reads " it is a statute to time indefinite for your generations, in all your dwelling places: you must not eat any fat or blood at all.".
jws use other verses to try and show that we mustn't eat blood as = having a blood transfusion.

Catholics cannonized the Bible, right?

if this isn't true set me straight please.. what do the witnesses think about this?
is it (the bible) just as valid if part of "christendom" decided which books of the bible would be included?

The Gnostics were a heresy that grew up along side orthodox christianity. These heretics were defeat long before the Church had any type of secular authority. As to the Cathars, etc, these were killed as much for their political opposition as religious. (Not that I condone either).

I think Sharon is kicking himself for NOT snatching Arafat and tossing him into exile right now. Fod, apparently appeasement didn't work either. Before September of 2000 the Israelis were playing nice. Arafat was getting EXACTLY what he wanted and choose Terror and "Intifada" as his weapon to acheive his goals IN SPITE OF the Israelis playing nice. I was there when it happened. UNPROVOKED violence on the part of the Palistinians launched the new violence (and REALLY screwed up my visit to the middle east). Cooperation with the PA? They're the ones funding some of the Terrorist groups.

What's the one thing you miss about the WTS?
by Naeblis inthere are times when ilook back fondly on my days in the witnesses, especially when i think on the congregation get togethers we would have every once in awhile (not too often) people from our hall and sometimes others would show up (not too many) and good times were had by all.
this is how the schedule usually went.. 8pm: arrive at the community centre.
8:05pm: scope the room.

Amazing Survived Major Heart Attack
by AlanF ini just spoke on the phone to amazing (jim whitney) who is in intensive care in a chicago hospital.
on monday he had a major heart attack, had a stint put in an artery to unblock things and may have bypass surgery.
he's comfortable enough right now, but of course will have to make some big lifestyle changes.

and since when are Elders qualified to conduct a criminal investigation? I thought that was the job of Joe Law. So now I'm to let the Elders conduct the criminal investigation. When my wife gets raped should I call the Elders to come solve the crime? Have they been studying Sherlock Holmes at Elder's meetings? I know, we'll put the Elders on the trail of Osama Bin Ladin, their superior investigative skills should have him in ohhh, say, a week?
Oh, by the way, by using the Elder's standard, almost none of the accused priests in the Catholic Church are guilty, there are NOT two witnesses, and few confessions.
GET REAL dude, Pedophilia is a crime where no one knows except the pedophile and the victim. If there aren't two witnesses to the act the Elders do NOTHING!!!!!!!!! When was the last time a Pedophile molested a kid with someone watching? Even multiple victims is not enough becuase it has to be two witnesses to the SAME ACT!
