I took this test a while back. It is what got me looking into the UU because I got 100% with UU. JW were # 27 with 12%. I have started attending a class at my local UU church. It is really interesting so far. I am impressed there is no real dogma to believe in. They have seven basic principles which are:

The inherent dignity and worth of every person;
Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregation
A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part

And I agree with all that. They are also the only church in the US that will perform a marriage cermony for couples of the same sex...

It is a cool thing so far...

The first class.....

well last night i went to that class at the uu church in my area.

there were about 20 people there.

last night everyone just shared their spiritual journey and how they had gotten to the point that they were at.

Well last night I went to that class at the UU church in my area. There were about 20 people there. Last night everyone just shared their spiritual journey and how they had gotten to the point that they were at. It was very interesting. Some people had a pull toward buddhism, some toward christianity, some towards nontheist, and some still searching. Everyone just wanted a nonjudgemental community where they could grow and feel free to not have to believe one exact thing. I had never experienced that before. No one cared if I believed what they believed, it was much more about community. I like that. This is all weird to me, because I said I would not get involved in religion again, but lately I have felt so empty and needing something. I still have 3 more classes....I will keep you posted...

Where were you when you first came here?

i noticed in a couple of threads people discussing the impact this board would have on jw's with doubts coming here and reading the messages.

it got me to wondering where most people that post here were at...what stage in their jw/ex jw process...when they started reading and/or posting here.

also curious, when you did come here what was your main focus?

I have been out for over 5 years, when i came here I had been to a few other boards and was told about this one. I had not dealt with the whole religion thing until this last year and a half. I just kind of ignored it. But I felt the need to have a spirituality in my life. I found talking with others that lived my experience very helpful in this process and still is, both fluff and nonfluff :)

i just wanted to see how many of you watched the survivor finale...and if so what did you think?

i am a survivor junkie and love it.

i cannot believe on survivor 4 they are giving the players no food water or fire.

You are from near palm springs? No way, my aunt lives in La Quinta. When I was 15 and went out there to visit I went to a KH out there somewhere, near La Quinta. I love the desert. I want to move out there someday, in so cali or in arizona. That is so cool....

QUESTION: What religion are you in now? ...

this got me to thinking.... now that most of us have left the wts, i notice some have taken other belief systems.

some have come to a peace with their own ideas.. my question is are you involved with another religion?

has it brought you more peace or happiness?

well actually last year I decided to start thinking again about spirituality. I tried some churches but I found myself looking for the hypocrisy and not being open minded. I decided to explore what I believe. I believe in God, but I do not believe jesus was God and I believe God is more a force than a being. I beleive we can find God in things such as laughter and within ourselves. I believe that God's main attribute is love. I do believe in an afterlife, but not heaven and hell. I believe that all people and their beliefs should be respected. I believe humans should not judge other humans, you never know exactly what it is like to be that person.

Last week I did attend a UU church. I liked it a lot. You do not need to be christian, you in fact do not have to believe in any certian thing. It has no creed or dogma. I am attending a four week class there that meets once a week about the history of the church and stuff. I am going to decide if I want to join.

That is where I stand as of now, but I believe my beliefs are free to change as am I.

when leaving the Borg....

i know how very hard it is for us to leave a friend.. or let go of a loved one through death.

many here have been raised in the truff..... while others have only been either associated or were in a breif time.... so i have a question.. .

how long were you out before you were able to make a "worldly" friend??.

I was only in the borg for about 6 years, from the time I was 13 to 19. During this time I had worldly friends at school. I severed some of them when I first joined the borg, but as I got older I made a lot of worldly friends and so I had no problem. In fact I found I trusted them more than my friends at the KH.

okay fess up: whats your handle mean?.

my handle: mindchild comes from computer scientist and futurist dr. hans moravec: who wrote the book, the future of robot and human intelligence which is a book about when we will be able to construct machines capable of human intelligence and raises the possibility of uploading ourselves (every thought we ever had) into an android body much superior to the human ones we have now.

i entertain the hope that not only will i live long enough to see this happen, i will transfer myself (the complete essence of what is me) into a body of my own choosing and become immortal if i so choose.

I loved wonderwoman as a child and I believe I have survived a lot of crap in my life and have survived to be a fairly healthy woman that is on her way to success....

just a quick thought - i am a firm believer in freedom of speech etc, but having been on this forum for some time i honestly can't say that i can introduce a doubting jw interested in true christianity to this board.

some of the deep discussions on jw doctrine are excellent, but everything else seems to be nonsense in my opinion.

why can't this site be more like the old www.witnesses.net which seemed to have more spiritual meat rather than backbiting, gossip, and rumour and even obscenity.. sorry for my frank opinion

I understand that you are a christian and that is fine. I think people should find the religion for them. I however disagree that there is only one right way to God. God is a God of love and I do not believe he wants to condemn nations of people just because they were brought up to believe something you do not. Does that sound like a just fair God to you? Another point is most all religions teach love of God and of neighbor. This is the core of Jesus' teaching and many of the eastern religions. It is about finding peace with yourself, your creator and your community. So I do not believe that it matters what religion you are. I believe none have absolute truth anyway. They all have good teachings for the most part. I think you have to look at the big picture instead of the little pieces...

Stevie...Well first of all, there is just more than the main forum. There are forums to discuss beliefs and have more religious discussions on this page. Maybe right now people on this page are sick of always talking about the serious and want more light hearted stuff....the board should be here to give the people here what they need.

aChristian...you meantion that you can only find God in the Bible or something like that, why? Cannot God be found other ways. Does one have to be a Christian to be worthy of a relationship with God? Are you saying all members of eastern religions are wrong?

I am just more open minded. I think God can be found many ways. Spirituality is a personal journey and one should follow his/her path.
