I was getting ready to call 'BS' on this until I saw the PDFs uploaded from a second source.

I mean, seriously... who needs a paragraph of instructions, with bullet points, on how to study up on a new church hymn?

How can we individually learn the new songs? When the music, lyrics, and choral arrangements
become available in your language on jw.org or JW Broadcasting, follow these four
steps: (1) Listen repeatedly to the music or choral renditions of the songs until you know them
well. (2) Analyze the lyrics, and try to memorize them. (3) Sing the melody together with the lyrics
until you have mastered each song. (4) Rehearse the new songs a few times during your Family
Worship session until your family is comfortable with them.

"Listen repeatedly..." Is there subliminal message when sung out loud? Did the WTS learn something from Led Zeppelin, KISS, Queen, and the Beatles? Will dubs start listening to their Kingdom Melodies backwards, looking for hidden messages?

"...memorize..." Why? The words are written down, just read em. Unless, of course, there's some kind of indoctrination going on with repeating the same words over and over by memory. Naahhh... the WTS would never do that {insert roll eyes thingy here}

"Rehearse during Family Worship..." Like dubs don't have enough problems keeping young ones in 'the truth'. This is sure to cure that ailment. Just sit around and sing Kingdom Melodies as a family. The little kiddies will just be so encouraged to stay in Jah's service. {insert heavy sarcasm here}

The X-Mas thing...

christmas means nothing to me.

i have no abiding, cosy, childhood memories of it.. i don't buy presents or cards....i have to be reminded.. i feel a bit weird.

people are celebrating and saying: 'i'm feeling christmassy.'.

I can relate. Having grown up without the tradition of xmas, it really doesn't mean anything to me, even after leaving the JWs and living without their influence.

I don't have anything against xmas, or how people get excited about it. I get invited to xmas parties, and I go, and enjoy them. I've received gifts, and even given a few to a select few people, who I felt moved to give something to. I like some xmas songs, especially the classics and a few of the ones popular during my youth (Lennon, Springsteen, Greg Lake, etc).

But the so called 'xmas spirit' or 'joy' isn't there. It doesn't exist for me. I can't get excited about it, or care enough about it to drive to the mall in xmas traffic (the single worst thing about xmas - traffic). I have no sentimentality about any of it. At my most cynical, it's just a marketing ploy to sell shit. At my least cynical, it's just a day off work, maybe visiting friends or going on a trip, or maybe just a movie. (that used to be my thing, go to the movies on xmas. But now they release blockbusters on xmas weekend and it's too damn crowded)

I've never seen anything to suggest that the GB aren't in charge. They no doubt take advice from legal and financial team but they seem to be running the show. They personal visit new building HQ, branches and seem to have the final say.

At least as far as doctrine and run-of-the-mill JW policies go. But I have a feeling they've almost become puppet dictators. Someone else in the shadows (legal dept) really controls the future of the corporation. They just let these chumps feel like they're in charge.

Kinda stupid for not seeing through it earlier, but also relieved. I knew something wasn't right, but kept it buried. When it finally couldn't be suppressed, and the whole thing fell apart, I was glad I was free of the oppression and repression. The real chore was trying to leave quietly without over alarming JW family. That's where the real stress was.

Over time, I would have to say there was some anger and bitterness at losing part of my life to this cult, but it gets better in time, and you look forward and not back as much as possible.

Religulous Woke Me Up

there are many people that get their wake up call one way or another.. for me, i was bored and went to netflix.

on there was a documentary called, "religulous".

i watched it and that started my search.

I don't consider the movie a documentary as much as a comedian's jab at the ridiculousness of 'true believers'. Maher found some real doozies to interview and showcase.

As pointed out, it does have some factual mistakes. I remember thinking at the time that Maher and his writers didn't do a good job of fact checking their some of the assertions. I think it was his comparison of legend of Horus vs the legend of Jesus, that raised an eyebrow for me.

But still I enjoyed it. I like Bill Maher, even when he goes too far, or I don't agree with everything he says. And knowing that he's a comedian, I went into it knowing he was going to make fun of religious people, and it wasn't going to be a true documentary, PBS style.

I remember way back when... many moons ago... when a CO came thru, and in one of his talks on giving your all to god, er, the bOrg, he went off on pets. They're needy, costly, and can very well get in your way to surviving Armageddon. If you put too much emphasis on your pet(s), consider them one of the family, care too much, then when time comes to hightail it, are you going to look back at your sad eyed puppy and be turned into a pillar of salt? I paraphrase of course, but that was the gist of his attitude and cautionary tale.

But he really went too far when he declared that your pet does not have affection for you. They are incapable of appreciating what you as their owner/caregiver do for them. They cannot return love or affection. He blew it right then and there. There was an almost mutiny in the congregation after that meeting. Every pet owner was upset. How dare he say that. Their pets were part of the family, and they do show affection.

That was such a surreal moment that it has stayed with me all these years, and Sir's post kinda brought back those memories of that day/week. And it shows just how manipulative the WT leadership attempts to be... even to the point of denying people their pets. The money to feed and care for that mutt could've gone to them. The time playing with them, or watching your kids play with kittens and puppies would be so much better spent knocking on doors of empty houses. They really are a sorry lot of human beings.

Intriguing - but Unsubstantiated!

So the common thread among some of you theorists is that changing their name would be to distance themselves from past failures. But changing from Jehovah's Witnesses to Jehovah's Worshipers doesn't distance them from their first failure upon naming themselves Jehovah's Witnesses way back when... that the name Jehovah was mistranslated and is not the correct name for their Hebrew god. If they really wanted to prove that this is a new starting point, shutting the door on the past, and the erroneous failures, they should change it to Yahweh's Worshippers. But YW.org doesn't roll off the tongue the way JW.org does.

Actually, until there is some definitive proof, I ain't buyin it...

My sincerest condolences on your loss. Even though we've never met, I have felt a comradeship with you over the years, and remember you speaking of your mother often. I was truly saddened to read the news.

Seeing how this is a booth at a book fair, it's not too far out there - yet. When I've had to attend work events that featured booths, we, as employees, were given company logo'd shirts to wear while working the booth. After our shift was done, back to the jeans and t-shirts or whatever.

Now, if they start requiring dubs to wear these 'uniforms' while working out in service, whether door-to-door or standing idly by a literature cart, then it gets a bit more cultish, more like Mormons and their black slacks/ties and white shirts. But for now, It's what it has always been - a publishing company using volunteer workers to sell their wares. They're just pushing some company logo wear on them to wear while working isolated events.

(though it does achieve another goal - robs the booth worker of any individualism. They are a robot arm of the corporation, not a real person. This is true whether it's religion or industrial lubricants. --Bonus points to whoever can name the movie I just ripped that off from)
