Witness Weddings "Introducing Brother and Sister...!"
by stuckinarut2 ini can not stand it when the speaker at a witness wedding introduces the new couple as "brother and sister_____".
how messed up does that sound especially to non-witnesses??.
just another stupid witness tradition that makes the rest of the world see how crazy they are!.

One Day assembly in Arizona- $17,000 !!
by AndDontCallMeShirley ini heard from a reliable source that a one-day assembly in arizona last weekend had a "cost" to the publishers of $17,000.. predictably, the elders were nice enough to obligate the attendees to a $6,000 donation to wt before the assembly "costs" (i.e.
"rent/extortion) were even met.
$11,000 rent plus $6000 in extra "donations".

I knew Omega Man and the movie I Am Legend were based on the same book, but I've never read the book (though I would like to). I had heard that Will Smith's movie was truer to the book than Omega Man, but Will Smith is no Charleton Heston. And I saw Omega Man as a kid, so it left a pretty big impression. I was 'eh' on Will Smith's movie.

Back when I was an active JW, I had several experiences. I'd wake up from a bad dream, and couldn't move. I wasn't completely awake, but aware of my surroundings and realize I couldn't move. It was like something was sitting on my chest, and I'd try to roll over, push up, or sit up and couldn't move. And I couldn't speak. I'd try to say something and nothing would come out. As a brain dead JW, I thought it was a demonic attack. I would try my best to follow the WTS advice... say, "Jehovah Jehovah" over and over, but I couldn't even squeek a noise out. Even though panic was setting in, the muscles started slowly working and I was able to grunt and trash a little. Then I'd finally come around and fully awake and get motor/voice control back and sit up in a sweat, breathing hard.
Once I realized the WTS was not the one true organization of Jehovah, and accepted the fact that there are no demons to attack me, I never experienced another one. I've come to accept it as a sympton of anxiety brought on by fear of not living up to standards as set up by WTS/JWs. Now that I'm free and clear of their control, that anxiety is no longer present.

Every male fan of the show has a 'man crush' on Daryl.... just man up and admit it.
I was hooked on episode one and haven't missed one since. Last night's episode was INTENSE
"I Am Legend" with Will Smith is great! It was the first modern Zombie movie I watched while waking up from JW propaganda about demonic movies. The most exciting/frightening part of thefilm, the first time I watched it, was when his dog ran into the dark building filled with zombies and he went in with his flashlight . . . man, that was an adrenaline high!
You should try out 'The Omega Man' with Charleton Heston. Not as slick as today's movies (around 1970 or so), and was another of Chuck's B-grade, end of the world, soylent green is people, movies, but Anthony Zerbe as the leader of the 'zombies' looking to kill Heston was creepy...and Heston's symbolic role of Christ, complete with being crucified at the end is interesting.

'worldly' events vs JW events... the fear, and the reality
by undercover ini went to what a jw would call a 'worldly' wedding a couple of weeks ago.. having been raised a jw, i had never been to a 'worldly' wedding until i was in my late 20s or early 30s.
the horror stories of 'worldly' people in general kept me from associating with 'worldly' people, except as necessary through work, etc.
as i became more willing to associate with workmates and other 'worldly' people, i started to realize the fear that had been instilled in me was mostly false.

A big to do over very little.
Now, as a JW, I went to a lot of weddings. And at almost every one (that had alcohol - many didn't because of the fear of someone having too much fun), there was invariably disaster waiting to happen, and later elder meetings and local needs parts. Some times it was justified (somebody got drunk and did something stupid) but usually it was just people having fun, letting off some steam, trying to enjoy one of the few happy moments in an otherwise drab life of a JW. All the while, the WTS painted all 'worldly' parties, wedddings, events as invites to Satan and the demons, with perverse sexual activity, drug use, pregnancy, and general mayhem running rampant, since there was no holy spirit present.
Well, let me tell you about the 'worldly' wedding I attended. Multi-cultural, multi-national, all ages, from babies to octogenarians were in attendance. Didn't see any demons, or Satan worshippers. Not even any terrorists. The serman was short and to the point...good job Rev, it's hot in here, let's get this party going. The reception was well organized, and yes with an open bar...wine, beer and booze. And guess how many people got drunk.... not one. Not a single person acted stupid, got sloppy, fell down, grabbed the minister's wife, or tried to cope a feel of the bride. Everyone was well behaved...even the groom's birth mother, who was not really loved by anyone, but who was invited because she was family (He spent most of his life with his step-mother).
And the music. Oh my god... it was... just fine. From classics of the 40s to the 60s to 70s disco to modern hip-hop and EDM. No controversial songs, no bad lyrics. Just good tunes to dance to. Oh, the dancing. Was it one big orgy. Nope. Just a bunch of people who rarely dance, pretending to be disco kings and queens for a little while. Fathers with daughters, sons with mothers, little kids with grandparents. And young people pairing off, but keeping it classy.
In short, everything that the WTS fears in large gatherings of 'worldly' people failed to materialize. It's almost like the WTS has exaggerated the lifestyle of non-JWs in order to keep their followers from realizing that everyone out there isn't really any different than they are. Imagine that...

Father denies children inheritance unless they quit Jehovah's Witnesses
by Tiktaalik inan article in the sydney morning herald:.
http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/father-denies-children-inheritance-unless-they-quit-jehovahs-witnesses-and-become-catholics-20140810-102egl.html#ixzz39yziuuvf.
"from beyond the grave, father-of-four patrick carroll continued a five-decade crusade to steer his children away from being active jehovah's witnesses and into catholicism.. mr carroll wrote into his will that his adult children were not to receive any inheritance unless they met two conditions: attend his funeral and become catholics within three months of his death.. mr carroll died in april 2012. his children attended the funeral but they did not become catholics and challenged the condition in the nsw supreme court in a bid to still receive their share of his estate.. but justice francois kunc last week ruled that mr carroll was entitled to place such conditions on his will.. the court heard that mr carroll's motivation was not so much about imposing his own beliefs but rather the fact he never approved of his children becoming jehovah's witness.. the court heard that mr carroll did not raise his children as catholics, neither he or they had attended church services when they were young and he did not enroll them in catholic schools.. but when he split from their mother lillian in 1959 she became a jehovah's witness and over the next decade the couple's four children, robyn, paulene, anthony and susan, were baptised as jehovah's witnesses.. mr carroll never approved of "their adherence to that faith", the court heard.. "[lillian's] conversion to that faith enraged mr carroll, who for the rest of his life continued to express his very strong objections to lillian's and the children's member of that faith," justice kunc said in his judgement.. the court was told that all four of his children remain active members of their congregation.. in his will, written in december 2011, four months before he died, mr carroll left more than a third of his estate to his four children "dependent upon them becoming baptised into the catholic church within a period of three months from the date of my death and such gifts are also subject to and dependent my children attending my funeral.".

A JW reading this shakes their head and makes disparaging remarks about a parent who would demand such a thing...all the while denying their children the oppurtunity for higher education, and then promising their children's inheritance to the Watchtower Society in WT prepared 'giving' documents. Pot...meet Kettle
