Faithful and Discreet Slave parable through the three gospels
by pixel inthis is the parable of the faithful and discreet slave, put up from the three gospels, so you can see their differences (3 gospels out of 4 relate this):.
matthew 24:42-51: (prefered by the gb/fds/gb).
42 keep on the watch, therefore, because ?you?

Did Jesus had a passover meal AND then a wine/bread meal?
by pixel inwhy the witnesses separate these two event?.
-
Rattigan350
all Christians were expected to commemorate this event and partake of the bread and wine as stipulated.
“This means* my body+ which is to be given in YOUR behalf.+ Keep doing this in remembrance of me
They were to keep doing that in remembrance of him. Thus only those who knew him were to do that as the ones who didn't know him would not have anything to remember.
The passover was done in remembrance of their being saved from the angel of death and then their flight from Egypt and freedom. That existed for generations since. The eating and drinking was only for those who knew Jesus. Paul added to it by making it for the congregations later.
But the eating and drinking is done for remembrance, not for salvation or a covenant or anything other than a mental recollection of an event. It is like President's day is for the remembering of the presidents past, not that we knew them. Independence day is to commemorate an event that has a current condition of independence.

BOE Letter: Rules to deal with rules
by pixel inas everybody jere knows, there is no requirement for a christian to "count and report" their time.
that's totally made-up by the wt/fds/gb, so, they have to make rules to deal with their own rules.... .
re: showing consideration for those involved in theocratic projects .

Cobalt said:
That month he had a very low FS report, and the elders told him they couldn't recommend him because of his low FS hours that month
No, they couldn't recommend him because he was not creative enough with his report. If people care about being recommended, why not report higher hours?

How exactly did Jesus fulfill the law NOT the prophecies.
by mP intheres a clear difference between prophecies (predictions of future events) and laws(stuff you should and shouldnt do).. now since xians always says jesus fullfilled the law, how does one fullfill a bunch of requirements like dont murder, dont worship idols, shave your beard like this etc.. there are 613 laws in the torah, jewish rabbis have done all the hard work and we have a nice list on wiki.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/613_mitzvot.
im confused which of those some how select a unique individual to be the unique messiah ?
then again there were many messiahs, every king and priest of israel and judea was a messiah.

Stupid topic.
Jesus fulfilled the law and the prophecies because both were made for the purpose of demonstrating or modeling of what Christ was to do.
The law showed that those humans were imperfect and needed to be cleansed over and over.
The prophesies (are more than predicting the future) were given to tell who Jesus will be and what he will do and how he will die and what the kingdom is.

The JW Dress Code
by sacolton infor the brothers .... suit jacket and pants must always match as part of a complete suit.sport jacket and slacks not permitted.shoes must be polished (i had to go home and change shoes once).shirt should be white or close to white (i.e.
no dark colored dress shirts).do not wear bright colored suits or suits with more than one color (not including pin stripes).tie should not be bright colored or have too many colors.pants should have cuffs (this was recommended, not a rule).suit jacket must be buttoned up at all times (although you may wait until you begin speaking to button up your jacket).never put your hand in your pocket, even for one second.legs must be close together (his exact words were "do not have a horse stance").heels must be together but toes should be slightly apartif you are holding a microphone, the microphone must be point just above the chin, not at the mouth.if you are holding a microphone, do not put the other hand in your pocket (i cannot stress this enough, they will get you for this).do not lean on the lectern (podium, pulpit).whew!
strict dress-code guidelines straight from the presiding overseer.

To bring back this thread - I don't understand criticisms of dress codes.
The company I work for has a written dress code. Professional Business Attire when meeting with clients, suits and ties for men, business suits, blazers, skirts, blouses, dresses for women. (Which would be like ones giving talks at meetings or assemblies)
Business Casual attire otherwise. Appropriate: Casual slacks, dress slacks, dress shirts, blouses, dresses/skirts (no more than 2 inches above the knee, denim shirts/skirts, shirts with collar tucked in. Inappropriate: jeans, athletic wear, tshirts, clothing that reveals undergarments, shorts or skort, hats or caps, sheer or see through garments, cropped shirts, overalls, lowcut apparel.
Jewelry should be simple, not excessive. No more than 2 earrings in each ear are appropriate for women. Earrings are not appropriate for men. Exposed piercings are not appropriate. Tattoos are acceptable as long as they are not offensive. Extreme hair styles or colors are not appropriate.
Companies have dress codes, written for professional image. Churches, religion has image issues so they have dress codes too. If people have to conform with company policy because it is the right thing to do, then why complain in other areas that have the same policy for the same reason?
This thing about white or light shirts. That is simple fashion sense. Since suit coats are usually dark conservative, a dark shirt would not go with it. Dark coat, light shirt, dark tie; otherwise the opposite, light coat, dark shirt, light tie. What is the point in wearing a white tie with a white shirt? Black tie with black shirt?
On the length of hair thing...10 years ago, young men in the congregations lost priviledges if their hair was too short, IE, "skinhead." Now it is commonplace for servants, etc. Why can't they give a little on beards?
I don't get this shaved head with beard trend that is popularizing with men. It is backwards. Hair is supposed to be on the top.

First mention of "new light" may appear in July 15, 2013 Watchtower
by cedars ina trusted source informs me that the "new light" about the faithful slave is to make its first printed appearance in the july 15th watchtower, which should be available for download online three weeks from now, on around april 15th.. i'm led to believe that the references to the new understanding are made in such a manner as to suggest the "new light" isn't that new at all, which suggests to me that little or no effort is being made to explain the doctrinal connotations.
my source and i are hoping to get a key paragraph posted at the earliest opportunity.
watch this space!.

I will be interested to see how they explain who was the FDS between 1917 and 1942.
Easy, it was the board of directors with Rutherford as president, and the ones that went the prison with him in 1918. They just love that story to death.
If they can explain 2 classes of domestics from the scriptures, one with Christ as mediator and one without
Didn't that article back around 1980 explain that enough?
that slave has been closely associated with the Governing body
But not stating it is the GB... It makes it sound like it is separate from the GB, like a CYA statement.

Watchtower potentially receives at least $2.1 Billion a year in revenue by prohibiting holidays, etc...
by Calebs Airplane inso we all know that the main reason the watchtower corporation prohibits holidays, extra-curricular sports, higher education, etc.
is that this money could potentially become "voluntary donations" with just a little guilting and manipulation.
in the minds of the brooklyn brass, money that isn't spent on all this worldly stuff is potential liquid revenue (at least some of it anyway).. now let's go extremely conservative for a minute and say that the average "worldly" person only spends a total of $300 a year on christmas, birthdays, st. valentines, father's day, mother's day, extracurricular school sports, higher education, and all the other stuff that the wt frowns upon.... we all know that the real number is much higher than $300.

i think it's more about control and convincing members that they are in a special club that is the only one that knows these things are wrong
You nailed it on the head.
So many things that are done is to make it like JWs are different from the rest. Be it politics, holidays, education, school, employment, etc.

Who are the men that REALLY Run the WT?
by Zordino inwith all of the manipulating of people's lives and subliminaly coercing witnesses to give their wills and other belongings to the wt upon their death or sooner.
also with all of the manipulating of younger one's in terms of coercing them into not doing anything with they're lives except "spiritual pursuits" for the sole purpose of furthering their own corporate interests, is there possibly some men behind the scenes who really call the shots and using the gb just as puppets in a huge money making scam knowing full well the the whole jw thing is a complete pile of crap?
in other words, are these "bosses" conscientiously manipulating the r & f on purpose knowing full well what they are doing to their member's in so many ways?

The GB runs everything because the corporation's do what the GB says because if they don't then they will be called disobedient and then removed. It is always a case of the ones in any position have to do what is in the interest of the GB or they will be removed and then replaced with someone who will.
Afterall, the belief is that the GB as the FDS owns everything, the KH, assembly halls, WTS buildings so the board of directors sit in their positions at the pleasure of the GB.

The Church's Biggest Lie
by ProdigalSon inthink you've sorted out the mess that christianity has become?.
ever wonder why the other 2/3 of the planet doesn't believe the utter nonsense of "resurrection"??.
chew on this, christians:.

It's not a lie. A lie is only when they know the other side is true. When one knows concrete facts and teaches against it. No one knows what happens after death, so any statement on that subject can not be considered a lie, it is merely speculation. Teaching speculation is not teaching a lie, it is teaching a theory.
It is like when JWs say that Christendom teaches lies such as hellfire and trinity. Well, hellfire and trinity are false, but teaching them are not lies because no one has seen God or the afterlife to know what happens. They are just different interpretations of sacred books. Different interpretations does not make it a lie.

Agnostic. God is irrelevant until he becomes relevant.
"If you are inactive/faded but not disfellowshipped, are you treated as if you were disfellowshipped?"
I treat others as if they are disfellowshipped, because I really don't care to waste time talking with them.
