Slavery - ancient

i have been listening to podcasts by dan carlin and his excellent series on persia and the spartans, called king of kings.. its a refreshing way to hear unbiased accounts of history, untainted by religious beliefs.. a part of the podcast dealt with the jews but it put into perspective their place in world history and events.

pretty much just another tribe- sometimes rebellious, allowed to exist under the rule of a major power, allowed to worship their own gods exactly like the other tribes around them.. another part that caught my interest was the account of slavery and it made me think about the way wt and other christian religions have tried to reconcile the idea that it was ok in those days for jews to own slaves because they had laws to protect the slaves.. the podcast made me realise a lot of apologists of slavery obviously forget how a person becomes a slave in the first place.

apologists like wt say it was ok because it was part of the economy and the way life was, which totally skips over the important part.. after a war, when most of the men were killed or wounded on the battlefield by the winning side, whoever was left, men, women and preferably young virgins, were taken back to the homeland of the victors and sold at the slave markets.

I feel the same way as Stealth, besides the slavery that was condoned in the bible. There are many accounts of it talking about the exact same thing as what the Nazis did. The Nazis made their victims sound like anything other than human. A while back I watched a few of the Nazis propaganda videos on the History Channel, and how they were comparing the Jews to rats. It was something that turned my stomach, but I watched it, to understand history a little better. While watching it, I noticed the similarity in the Old Testament of the Bible. It was when God was using a group of people to go in and slaughter the inhabitants who were already living in the land that was being stolen, under the guise of living in God's promised lands. They view those people they were killing and forcing into slavery as anything but human.

Nine times out of ten it is religion behind it when it comes to murder and slavery. The ironic part now is my JW relatives don't have anything to do with me because I decided I didn't want to be a JW, and my Christian relatives (those who are not JWs, but Baptist, Luthern, and other Christian faiths) don't have anything to do with me because I don't go to church either. I am VERY thankful that I got my sons away from those toxic teaching before it could do anything to harm their thinking. They are very familiar with the bible, and they too view it the same as I and don't want any part of it either, but they are able to hold their own when it comes to debating. I made sure of this so they don't get swept up into some cult (JW or not).

I figured out a while back why some people are just too fat, and it is one little thing. I'll explain.

My mother became a JW back in the early 1970s, and at the time her weight was average, not skinny, nor fat, or obese. The longer she was in that religion she just got bigger and bigger. I haven't seen her in the last 18 years, but I have had relatives give me information on her from time to time. She has gained so much weight now that she is in a wheelchair. I know why, and it is not because of some medical reason that would cause it, but rather she is attempting to kill herself by food. A few years back when I was still a JW, my husband and I went to visit her, and we went to the local KFC, all you can eat buffet. The amount of food my mother took was astronomical. She consumed 3 heaping plates of food and one heaping plate of dessert. It was enough food that my husband and I could have spent the next four days in complete meals. I know my mother has some mental issues, but she refuses to get any help for what is bothering her. She has said on a number of times she is waiting for Jehovah to take over, and then he will give her a perfect body, so what's the point of caring now.

The main problem with those involved in religion (cult or not) and don't keep their weight in check or care how big they get is because they all think they will get a second opportunity to have their god fix it by giving them a perfect body. I too thought this same way for many years, and I'm paying the price now. My weight is a constant struggle that I am always dealing with.

The ironic part is that the Watchtower attempts to make slavery sound like a wonderful joyful thing, and the JWs (until they wake up individually) soak it up like gravy on bread.

Just one question is San Francisco a sanctuary city?

The reason I ask is that there was a town that I was living in Missouri, and where I was living at had a huge number of illegals. The biggest issue with those folks was they didn't use the facilities when dealing with going to the bathroom. I would see them take a dump in their back yards.

The same was at the locations where I worked at (a convenient store and a production plant). I can't even tell you the number of times illegals would take a shit, and they would not shit in the toilet, but on the floor. I got tired of cleaning up their crap, that whenever I was on duty, I would lock the restroom, and put an out of order sign on the door. It got so bad at the production plant they actually installed cameras to see who was going and leaving the restrooms (not in the room, but just right outside).

My cousin was assigned to clean their living quarters in Wisconsin, and she would always tell me of the actual shit she had to clean up after those people.

First I just want to say thank you, Anders, it really helped.

Smiddy3, there was some information I came across where people were talking about some things. Before I believe or repeat what people say, I like to double check the information first. I don't want to repeat anything unless there are facts that can be backed up.

i have recently read in the news that an attack on iran is planned sometime after the olympics in beijing.

here's a bit of background to it:.

when irans fledgling democracy was overthrown with support of cia the shah of iran was giving israel free oil thru a pipeline that still runs thru saudi arabia to a refinery in the israeli city of haifa.

Nathan, I no longer believe in Armageddon or the end of this system of things. It took me a little while after leaving the Watchtower to finally realized it, and when I did, that was when true freedom really kicked in.

That is a list of how to be an awful person, regardless of who is doing it. There is only one rule to do when dealing with another person, treat others on how you want to be treated, but don't put up with any bull.

A few years back when my husband and I were homeless, we met and became friends with a converted Muslim. Before becoming a Muslim, he studied with the JWs, and the Muslims at the same time. He grew up in a Christian home, so he had quite a bit of knowledge regarding the three different faiths. He did say one thing about Armageddon that still sticks to my mind to this day. "When people think of Armageddon, they think of a worldwide event, but no, it will only involve those in the middle east."
