I have a strong feeling if the Watchtower had fully embraced the internet, there would be more JWs leaving than there were. I know it was the aid of the internet that helped me in figuring it all out. In my case I had almost every book dating back to the 1950s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. When I started my research, the kind folks who put together so much information and where to exactly find this information in my very own books at home. If I had gotten onto the internet much sooner, I would have left that cult that much sooner.

Speculation? What would Watchtower be now if it had fully embraced the internet / technology 20 years ago
by joe134cd inthis has probably been discussed before so please feel free to include links as well.
so what would wt be now if it had encouraged it's members to use the internet or technology for spreading the good news.

Kingdom Hall construction -- Counting time and reporting travel, meals, and lodging expenses
by FatFreek 2005 ini have two questions.
1. if you work on kingdom hall construction, are you allowed to count your time in lieu of field service?
an old thread here indicated that if you are pioneer, you can count your time.

Is this something new, or has this been something that they have always done? The reason I'm asking is because I was both a regular pioneer, and I worked with the electrical crew in building kingdom halls back in between the years of 1989 to 1993. I never counted my time when I was working on any of the kingdom halls, because no one ever told me I could. If I was able, it sure would have made my life a whole lot easier.

Life after Armageddon in the new world A Paradise ? You be the Judge.
by smiddy inmost , if not all of jw`s expect it to be paradise ,immediately.. how wrong can they be.. 8 billion + corpses lying around , oh thats right jehovah the magician will fix that with a wave of his wing.. their will not be education above 4th grade as higher education is frowned upon.. women will be restricted to sewing weaving and looking after their husbands needs , and looking after all the children being born to her husband and being in subjection to him.. how many women are in high profile positions in the world today ,including leaders of countries ,and other positions of power and influence ,even in male dominated fields of bygone years .. that will all be gone in the new system ,where women will be put in their place.. children will be forbidden from compettitive sports as thats not permitted anymore , no more tv games ,no more video games , no more just about anything that normal teenagers engage in today.. and no more tv except jw.org tv worldwide with no other channells.
with higher education off the table society is going to slowly sink back to the dark ages and even the stone age.. think about it .
no research in anything , not medical , scientific ,the arts music ,literature ,paintings space ,astronomy etc.etc.,simply because its not necessary now , why ?

I remember shortly after I left the JWs, I ended up getting into a similar discussion with a JW about this. In short I told them I'd rather die at Armageddon than live forever under eternity under the Watchtower's rule. They told me that I was being selfish. To me their idea of paradise would be a living hell, thanks, but no thanks, I'll pass.

If it were me, I would call the elders to see what rumor is going on about me that would cause someone to stand me up for a meal. Something similar happened to my husband, before we were married. There was a nasty rumor going on about him, dating some worldly girl. Apparently I was the worldly girl that he was dating. When the elders found out that this worldly girl was a regular pioneer, and a member of the Kansas Electrical Crew (in building kingdom halls). The old women who were spreading this nasty rumors didn't know who I was and just assumed what they did. They didn't have the courage to come up to me and talk to me in person to find out who I really was. It was quite funny watching them in the hot seat with the elders. -

Attending a same-sex wedding
by Samantharockeby33 inmy cousin, whom is not jw, but we have grown up together our whole lives has just gotten engaged to her same sex partner, i am very conflicted on wether i can/should attend the wedding or not.
i am very close with my cousin and her partner and they are very understanding to our beliefs and differences as she grew up with our whole family being jw.
some family members have already said they will definitely be attending and some definitely not attending so i just want some extra advice and guidance!

In the long run, ask yourself this question, would I regret NOT going and supporting my loved one on a very important day of their life? When I was a JW, I did not go to my cousins wedding. Her wedding was in a church (the only reason my mom and I did not go). We was even in town during this time period. I too was very close to my cousin. About six months later she was killed in an auto accident, her husband did survive, but only for about a year. During that year he was alive, he was in a comma. What I'm trying to say, life is too short and too precious allow things to interfere.

Does anyone know what this is?
by Tameria2001 inyesterday my sister cut her foot on a piece of metal that was sticking out of my yard.
i've lived in my home for almost 8 years now, and well i'm guessing this thing must have worked it's way up to the surface or something, never seen this thing before.
i started to dig it up, and the thing just kept getting bigger and bigger.

I ended up getting $5 for that and the rest of the junk metal that was in my shed. All I had to deal with that day was all the spiders and ants. lol

Yes it took three of us to carry the thing to the back yard, I'm planning on scrapping it. Before me was one other person who owned this home, and before that it was part of some farm land (about 15 years ago), but it is now a residential neighborhood.

I started to dig it up, and the thing just kept getting bigger and bigger. I even called the water company, because I wasn't sure if it was something that belonged to them or not. I didn't want to take a chance of digging up something that would cause bigger problems. So with the help from my brother in law and a guy from the city, they manged to dig up this thing, and I don't even have a clue to what it was at one time. Does anyone have any ideas what this thing is?

Easier to be a JW now?
by Xanthippe inreading konceptual's account of talking to cart 'witnesses' and it reminded me that when we left in '89 we thought the religion would do one of two things.
get more hardline, consequently lose members and eventually come to an end in some way.
or ease up on the members, fewer rules, less fs time, less meetings, just to keep them in.. all the recent apostate stuff, treatment of dfed kids and the hardline attitude to people who leave or try to fade has confused me, made me think they are harder on the r+f., but i don't think this is true.

To me the JWs reminded me of a yo-yo, or a pendulum, going back and fourth on what they taught, what you could get kicked out for. One moment it's ok not to scream if one is being raped, while other times if one did not do it they would be dealt with harshly. The same for the blood issue. There were times it was ok to do certain things medically wise, and other times those very same things were a huge NO NO.
I too was one of those dummies that was a regular pioneer for a number of years putting in between 90 to a 120 hours a month, mainly because the 120 was making up for other times that I didn't quite make my quota with the hours. I was a dummy because I was just too honest in reporting my hours, looking back I just wished I would have said I put in the 90 hours... it wasn't like they paid me for my time wasted back then.
Talking about the decision on wither or not to scream when a rape is happening, I remember this one woman who was married and had some children. On this one night (her husband worked nights), this guy broke into her home, while she was sleeping, and raped her. She made the decision not to scream, because she did not want to wake up her children, and to possibly cause them harm. After he did his deed, he left, and she had called the police. Some time later, another woman in her neighborhood was also raped by the same man. But that woman was killed. They asked him why he did not kill his first victim, but he murdered the second. His reply was the first woman did not scream. When the second woman screamed, he was hoping for that to happen because he got some sick kind of pleasure out of it, and that escalated to a blood lust. He did say that if the first woman would have screamed he would have happily murdered her and her children that was in the home. But her punishment was not over with the JWs, she was ultimately disfellowshipped. I don't think I'll ever forget hearing about that.
