Hi defender of truth,
Whoah the story link you posted is very interesting and could have much wider implications.
Past city council member David Yassky said: "'I’m outraged and infuriated because the witnesses got considerably larger zoning designation than someone ordinarily would have on that site with no affordable housing required,' said Yassky. 'They argued that they deserved deference as a religious organization, and they got that deference from the city. For them to turn around and flip the site to a developer is completely contrary to the premise that they held out to the city in getting the zoning in the first place.'
"The group’s failure to fund upgrades to a nearby park and the York Street F-train station, as promised in the deal, amounts to salt in Yassky’s wound. 'I voted for [the rezoning], based on the promises that they made about the park and the subway stop, and based on the theory that religious organizations shouldn’t be treated the same as for-profit developers,' he said."

I'd report THAT to the police, but not THIS...
by Northern Star ini am new to the boards, so a little background info may be a good idea?
also, i'm not quite sure which sub-forum to post this to....
i have a typical religious background for my country; grew up with lutheran christianity (which was our state religion up until 2012; we now have a secular constitution).

Hi there Northern Star, you wrote:
"...but that if the murderer himself would not talk to the police, they would not pursue the matter further... Cognitive dissonance” came to mind..."
Did they give any sort of rationale for their conclusions because they're not just experiencing cognitive dissonance, they're experiencing cognitive disintegration.

Here's a simple question for them: Do they pay taxes?
If they answer in the affirmative ask them why do they pay taxes? What is the scriptural basis?
Now every government on this planet today requires that citizens HAVE to report a matter if they have witnessed a crime or are aware of an unreported crime. It is a part of each citizens civic duty. IT IS MANDATORY, just like taxes.

The rule for any sane human being regardless of faith should be the following: Its not just a sin its a felony.

Need to know when the next apostate bashing article comes out
by outsmartthesystem inso.....the court has updated binding recommendations to include the following:.
"each parent shall ensure that no other person or entity disparages, criticizes, or condemns the other parent in the children's presence, whether it is directly, indirectly, specifically or broadly stated, or articulated in any form - action, illustration or words.
each parent has an affirmative responsibility to shield the children from this sort of behavior.".

...or condemns the other parent in the children's presence
Yeah but what if the other parent was Ted Bundy?

Condescending theist tries to comfort fellow exjw's by telling them life isn't worth living without Sky Daddy
by cappytan inthis guy took over the exjw meetup.com group i follow and just sent out this email to all of us.to all members : i stepped in as an organizer to save the group in the hopes of connecting with other believers.
it appears that after leaving jehovahs witnesses you all have given up your promise to spend the rest of your lives serving god.
that now your free to just do whatever you want!

"And yes, there is a god for all those who have decided to become atheist. And he's not far away, way up in the sky somewhere... Life is worth living, but not without the savior."
Hi cappytan,
Well now I suspect one would have to provide some sort of retort and so here goes:
First off... I became an atheist due to the lack of evidence for an all powerful desert deity that had his son murdered on purpose. Add to this the fact that the evolutionary process is pervasive in everything from biology to cosmology, and that old time religion looks pretty dour and dry compared to what's actually going down.
Secondly, to use the parlance of Christopher Hitchens, I would not want to live in a divine North Korea. The idea of an all powerful personal god has become quite odious to me.
Thirdly, life's what you make it. It turns out we get to decide what is our life's purpose. If someone wants a sky daddy to make life worth living, well fine. For myself I cannot conceive of returning to those limitations in thought and ideas.

Plans for huge Jehovah's HQ take shape
by Formerbrother inhttp://www.chelmsfordweeklynews.co.uk/news/11227290.plans_for_huge_jehovah_s_hq_take_shape/.
its going to be a real beautiful place when its finished.. they are going for quality over quantity.
it used to be accommodation for a few thousand permanent residents, now its looking like less than a thousand permanent with the possibility of a few thousand more in temporary accommodation should the need arise.. some say the plans are going to be like a garden of eden in england :) i mean they had farming in london over the years but this is going to be epic what they are planning for temple farm at chelmsford.. they are planting thousands (literally) of fruit trees, including tropical fruits in huge green houses, huge vines yards and then the same basic farming activities as before.

With all the security it definitely sounds like (as many have written) a compound.
A compound...

What's More Important...Taking care of immigrants or the needy in your country?
by minimus ini say take care of the needy ones first like our veterans and homeless and mentally ill, and then....take care of those not from this country.

What's More Important...Taking care of immigrants or the needy in your country?
Why can't one do both? Love the one you with and so on.
If there's a needy person you know, help them.
If there's an immigrant you know, help them.
If there's a needy immigrant you know, well hell you get the idea don't you?...
In short we should help everyone except if they're a mormon. That vile satanic cult needs to be wiped off the face of the earth because Joseph Smith was the anti-Christ.

35 Years Ago Today - John Lennon - Peace Advocate was Murdered
by flipper inin this age of violence with the san bernardino and france massacres sometimes it's good to reflect on the wise words of the peace advocates among us who proposed a better solution in bringing a more civil society to our universe.
john lennon, martin luther king jr. - people who stood up for equal rights and world peace and denounced violence and war - no matter how that violence occurs.
please feel free to comment on stories of john lennon on this thread and feel free to post any you tubes of his music that you may have enjoyed through the years.

I read Catcher in the Rye a few years back, curious about the novel that Chapman had so readily and obsessively identified with.
Catcher in the Rye seems a bit tame by today's standards.
I can understand why it was so controversial though.
---
General note: It seems as if activism for universal peace can elicit some violent responses. Some examples:
Martin Luther King
Mahatma Gandhi
John Lennon
Perhaps its because the idea of humanity at peace with itself is such a powerful concept.
---
Many people posted Lennon songs, so I thought I'd post one written by Lennon but redone by someone else.
