Someone on this forum had contacted Oxford University and was assurred there was never an application from Franz.
i don't think so. I think the only reply was that he had not received it, but that there was no list of appliers.
let's pause a moment and consider the actual history of the watchtower society.. until his death, pastor c.t.russell was the driving force behind the publication of the watchtower.
russell controlled it and made provisions in his will for what would happen to the watchtower in the event of his death.
russell's writings, theology, teachings, predictions and intentions were attractive to those who joined his bible students movement.. fred franz signed on as a baptised adherent of russellism in 1913 because he was strongly attracted and persuaded by russell's message.. franz knew russell for three years until the pastor's death in 1916.. franz was ambitious to become a presbyterian minister.

"She was thrilled that I've left JWs"
Wow. Countries are different. A doctor saying something like that over here, would end up on the front pages of the newspapers the next day and have his/her career cut VERY short.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/10228621/lawyer-who-called-13-year-old-predatory-is-barred-from-sex-offence-cases.html.
from memory (help pls) when jehovahs witness elders report child abuse judicial comittee outcomes to the watchtower they have remit to comment on whether the child victim played some part in the offence.. this despicable question seeks to make the victim a mitigating factor in the sin crime.
well as of today the uk judicial system has laid down a marker that this 'defence' is inappropriate and will not fly.. what the defence said:.
The only reason question 9 OUGHT to be there, is that it should be followed up by a CO or DO or Branch visit by a heavyweight telling those elders that they a) should resign immediately if sticking to the idea, or b) within a rather limited time limit do some heavy reading and studying followed by obtained understanding that the idea is 100 % false.
Many a JW will no doubt have the idea that the victim to a certain extent brought it upon herself/himself, which is totally false, but that only reflect what people in general believ, regretfully. People having been in a jury can tell horrendous tales of what other members have said between themselves. Such ideas die hard. The WT is slow in coming, but I sincerely hope it is coming. Individual elders and COs/DOs are wonderful and do a great job in these matters, but the organizational structures are stiff and harder to handle - as is the case in many an organization. The present pope looks a bit more laidback, but he has a monstrous organization to fight with. Cardinal Ratzinger more or less gave up the fight, as I have understood it.

"I sort of wonder how much longer things can carry on for like this. "
Well, the Catholic Church has kept it going on for a millennium and a half ..............
i received this strange e-mail from romania.
to worship god in spirit , it means to have the understanding of his word , in spirit .
what is the truth ?
Slightly strange is it, though, that people find this Romanian group (and similar groups in other so-called East European countries) humble and deep and earnestly Christian, while the same people mock Da Judge and his followers - because this Romanian group is VERY MUCH a Rutherfordian/early Knorrian group.
i heard a rumour today to the effect that there is a new gb member in his late twenties/early thirties.
i stress that this is unsubtantiated and requires confirmation or quashing.. can anyone confirm or definately deny it?.
"very recently they inducted two very young men (in their late 20's) into the Branch Committee of India Bethel. This may be a foreshadow of greater things to come!"
Yeah, sure - the Indian Branch has always been a forerunner. Oh man, here we are maximazing rumours, taking the science of rumourism to new hights.
i was approached by an elder about a year ago asking what i am going to do with my large collection of wt literature.
he told me the society had put word out that they were collecting old literature.
i asked him why but he couldn't give me a definite answer.
He is selling AND buying. Some of the stuff he is selling, he once bought from me and I in my turn a few years earlier had bought some of it from others. Some of us are collectors, find stuff in attics or flee markets, sell and buy. He is just one among many. No need to make him look suspicious.
ok, this is from the january 1, 2007 craptower.
page 25 is the study article called "the first resurrection---now under way".
it's too boring to type all the stupidity written, but here's a brief synopsis of where they come up with the brainiac idea that the first resurrection occurred in 1918 onwards:.
Especially the last 5 years and 11 months.
the whole jeremiah book is an abomination, but a point in this week's study exceeded even its usual standards of inanity.. from page 144, paragraph 10:.
in our day, god continues to show loving-kindness in ways that directly benefit his worshippers.
consider the matter of prayer.
Chronic problem should not be understood as health or other problems, it is applied to problems one might have as to tendency towards immorality, drunkenness etc.
on this thread:.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/257481/1/i-cant-find-any-bibles-seems-to-be-a-shortage.
some (well, me, mostly) are speculating that the wts is planning to distribute a "new new world translation" some time soon.. if that is true, what changes do you think they would include?.
Very stupid speculation, since one cannot just "put words into" the Bible if it is to be a translation. Otherwise, it would be a paraphrase, as are the Amplified Bible, Living Bible and Today's English Version, which are not translations at all. One cannot all of a sudden "put" words or expressions like GB, earthly paradise or whatever into the Bible text. Meaningless thread. And as previously stated, elsewhere in the world, Bibles are available, so it is just a "US thing". And if you consider the fact that all other translations of the NWT are made based on the English translation, it would imply that translations into tens upon tens of other languages would have to be made too, millions of Bibles printed - the cost would be HUGE. I would advice the US readers not to speculate as much as they do ................. The world is slightly larger than the US.
