Quite the opposite - Stalin was a MAN, with all the shortcomings belonging to being one, but utterly human, whereas Hitler was a freak.

Are individual Governing Body members humble?
by Londo111 inwhen reading the watchtower publications, that seems hard to believe...especially now that the governing body has declared itself and itself alone the faithful and discreet slave (something that neither the apostles nor russell were), directly appointed in 1919 by christ, the unique channel of god upon who our salvation depends.
and such statements do not even scratch the surface of the arrogant and grandiose proclamations that are promulgated from the top down.. .
however, a few people who have met governing body members have said how kind and humble they were.

Following that logic - if someone hurts you or does you wrong, should you then NOT turn to the judicial system, but solely rely on God to help you and in due time take revenge on the wrong-doer?

They are not referred to as a NGO, it says that " The following non-governmental organizations responded: the Associazione Comunita Papa Giovanni XXIII, the Centre for Civil and Political Rights, the European Bureau for Conscientious Objection, the European Organisation of Military Associations, Forum 18 News Service, the German Institute for Human Rights, Human Rights Watch, the International Fellowship of Reconciliation, Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Quaker United Nations Office, the Russian NGO Soldiers’ Mothers of St. Petersburg, the Union of Conscientious Objectors, and War Resisters International."
There are no capital letters in the phrase "non-governmental organizations", so they are just that - organizations outside of the government, non-official. But if you see the Russian NGO Soldiers' Mothers of St. Petersburg" they are careful to use the capital letters there in identifying the group as a "real" NGO.

" John would have been released from Patmos in 68 AD (or shortly thereafter) and the time when he received this revelation and wrote it down would have been prior to 70 AD. John himself mentions in the book that he was at Patmos, when he received this revelation. Given the commentary of Paul about a distinguished disciple receiving visions of heavens and secret revelations in the year 41 CE, and assuming that disciple was John, then the visions of John began even before he was exiled to Patmos"
The two parts I have underlined, says it all to me. If one assumes things and states things would have happened - then all is possible ,,,,,,,,

But the question is not THAT easy, is it? If you say that something is a false translation or mistranslated - then compared to what? Or to which translation? Can we say that a translation is wrong, just because it differs from an older translation? Just because a translation - as a whole or of a certain passage - is old and/or widely used, it does not have to mean it is correct. For each and every NWT verse some would choose to call a false translation, one could just as easily point to other verses in other versions or translations and call THEM false translations. There is a huge difference between a translation which is different from how the verse is translated by other versions of the Bible, but where the transalation is within the realms of what is possible - and a translation where grammar rules and word meanings seem to have been deliberately broken or changed to force the verse to state what your pet opinion wishes it to state. John 1:1 is no example of the latter, and neither are 90 % of the so-called examples of falsely translated verses in the NWT. I think you should start by reading Jason BeDuhn's Truth in Translation.
We do not speak KJV English any more. Languages change. New manuscripts are found. Our knowledge about the world 2,000 years ago increase. If you do not speak NT Greek yourself, you really are in no position to utter an opinion on the matter, because you then have to rely on what experts say, and you have to "pick your experts", choose between them. As long as you do not master NT Greek yourself, all you have is hearsay.

Seeing the Strange in the JW Familiar
by laverite inthere are times when we manage to step outside of our own identities, perspectives and world view, and look at ourselves, our situations or certain lived experiences almost as an outsider.
sociologists call it seeing the strange in the familiar.
an anthropologist by the name of miner wrote a fascinating piece involving this very concept (see http://www.ohio.edu/people/thompsoc/body.html).

Not being allowed to wear 'pants' in a blizzard --- WE-IRD!
Yes, very weirs, as all European female JWs wear them. So one should try to make a difference between what is one's personal experience and what is worldwide group behavious.

KM quote? Examining the Truth is bad?
by DATA-DOG ini have been looking for a quote that i believe was in a km, but i just have not found it yet.
it was about examining beliefs.
it was not the quote that said " study is hard work, bethel will do it for you.
-
TheOldHippie
But IF JWs should be warned against studying the Bible - perhaps a quote to that effect would be required in stead of just claims to that effect?
