Ex JW of 30 years , still messed up from it

hi , this is my first post .. i left jws 30 years ago as 18 year old unbaptised youth and after the initial fallout from leaving pretty much put the whole thing in a box and buried it .. however , i am now starting to realise how much the doomsday messages and the ‘them and us’ doctrines that’s fed to you from birth has remained in my core beliefs.. how have others managed to reprogram themselves ?.

Since you ‘buried’ the religion (which it deserves to be really)..you never actually dealt with it or analyzed it. Leaving the religion is one thing..but you have to analyze why it was wrong.

What LongHairGal said here is so true .My take on it is this ,some people leave the religion but the religion never leaves them .

To many Jehovahs Witnesses its a "feel good" religion and they have never really analysed why it cant be anywhere near what you would call "truth"

And I`m sad to say the WT religion conditions people to be interlectually / spiritually lazy as to what they believe .

If WT or the GB says its so, it must be so, and they do not investigate it any further .

They let the religion do their thinking for them.

As LongHairGal said you have to analyze why it is wrong ,otherwise you will remain on a treadmill never knowing whether to believe the WT or not believe the WT.

You need to research it for yourself without WT influence .

How do you feel about the JWS religion after being out more than 10, 20, 30 years ?

myself being a born in and completely out for more than 30 years i see more of the damage of what this religious cult causes people .. part of myself leaving had to do with the psychological harm it was causing people back in the 1970's, one guy my age at the time hung himself out anxiety and depression.. the numerous suicides that have occurred in numbers is shocking to say the least.. then there is the many families breaking up.. marriages breaking apart because one member decides to leave the jws.. the deaths of members or their children from refusing a blood transfusion.. this hit me personally when my mother refused a bt when she was ill in the hospital and died.. over the years and observing all of these things reminds me how glad and fortunate i left when i did but i do find it responsible to others to expose this religious cult to what can happen to people who get involved with it and that's what i've been doing on this forum and elsewhere.

I can relate to what you are saying Fink when you say you find it responsible to others to expose this religious cult .

I was not a born in but a convert and was active for 32 years and I feel a moral obligation to help others see the dangers of ever becoming involved with JW`s or as I like to think help newbies and lurkers who come on this site to question things they may never have thought of before.

Having said that I myself have learnt a lot more about JW`s from fellow posters over the years that I never knew about .

I have been out now for about 27 years , and in about 10 years on this forum.

i personally hate it!

i've tried for years to find a way to enjoy it, but i do not.

i tried.. at the end of the day i feel its just people getting there ego stroked and miss-information.

How Satan has helped the WT

Haven`t you been paying attention to your Bible readings joey jojo ? Jehovah God and Christ Jesus are buddy buddy`s with Satan .

Its all here in the Bible.how have you missed it ? O.K. in the book of Genesis God gives Satan a rap across the knuckles so to speak for speaking the truth to Eve , saying that she wouldn`t die and that her eyes would be opened knowing good and bad. All true right ?

Thousands ? of years later in Heaven God asks Satan whats he been up to and then God makes a bet with Satan about how Job would be faithful to him .

Again thousands of years later , up in Heaven , after about 6,000 years God says Ok i`ve had enough of you I`m going to confine you to the earth so you can reap as much trouble down their as you like .

Us humans / Thanks God ,we know you love us ,and you send Satan down to cause havoc among us.

Think about this God Jehovah .......never shunned Satan.

Now what about Jesus Christ ?

Jesus spent Fourty days with Satan up on a mountain , Fourty days ? what the hell were they doing all of that time ? having a ball by the sound of it .

And after it was over apparently Satan left it till another time to meet up with Jesus again.And Jesus didn`t say no it ain`t gonna happen .

It is all recorded in scripture.

Think about this Jesus ........ never shunned Satan

useful information for students of history - why are bat viruses so deadly.. a bat virus may be responsible for the highly infectious coronavirus respiratory illness in wuhan china.. long ago, when i was growing up in a tiny fishing village on the far south coast of new south wales, some people still ate flying foxes, which were a type of bat.

they were kept in cages "to fatten them up," then killed and cooked.

i do not recall any specific sicknesses that may have swept that village.. other wild creatures were also eaten.

Catholicism has a very long and evil history, including endless scandals they're guilty of in the century and a half since Watchtower has come into existence.

And WTB&TS /Jehovah`s Witnesses have done a pretty good job of achieving endless scandals of sexual child abuse all around the world in only their what, 100+ 36 years of existence ?

As to the OP Islam doesn`t pay much attention Jesus regarding him as only a prophet.

Jehovah`s Witnesses don`t give Jesus that much credit either , their focus is on the God of the Old Testament who they call Jehovah / Yahweh the more correct pronunciation of the Tetragrammaton.

Do You Support Police and Law Enforcement?

recently black lives matter representatives have encouraged people to spit in law enforcement officials foods.

some people are going into police stations and trying to kill innocent officers.

federal officials are marked for death because they try to administer the law.. what is your opinion of this type of lawlessness?.

Without police and law enforcement you would have anarchy .

So of course I support law enforcement.

Every now and again you might get a few bad apples in their ,but hey, overall they do a fantastic job putting their own lives on the line for you and me.

The examples minimus gives in the OP these people should have the book thrown at them and throw away the key .That should not be tolerated under any circumstance .

Are Watchtower/ Awake considered religious magazines by Christians?

This has been brought up before and all it means is that the WT and Awake are the most PRINTED religious magazines in the world and certainly not the most read.

I was a JW for 32 years and I cant tell you how many mags I had to dump in waste bins because the family couldn`t place them over the years.And I certainly wasn`t alone in doing this .

I would hazard a guess that about 75% of magazines printed ever reached the public and even fewer were ever read by anyone.

Even congregations I was in had designated months when the publishers were given x amount of mags to give away free because they were overstocked and had become out of date.

This was when we asked for contributions for the magazines.

Even back then 30-40 years ago I said why put a date on the mags ? Isn`t it a truth for all time ? apparently not.

What the fall guy said is true It's only a publishing statistic.

The illusion is when you have anywhere near upwards of 8 million volunteers distributing these mags ,whatever the X number is and you have a publishing house that Prints X amount of mags.has no bearing on how many Christians are reading these magazines .

Mainline Christians do not consider Jehovah`s Witnesses christian ,the Catholics and the mainstream Protestant churches would not read JW publications and the smaller sects are very one eyed they are not going to read anything from another sect.

The only people that do read ,no correction, I should say take a magazine from a JW is a non practicing christian of many faiths who do so thinking they are helping a charity cause .

And their is no indication that anybody ever reads them .
