maybe I should read up on the many versions of the Atheists Bible, that would be the only bible that would interest me now.
Though I still do have a copy of the NWT of the Bible 1984 that I sometimes use to refute a JW belief or two.
which english translations of the bible are you favorites, and why?
my favorites include the (english) revised version bible (of 1881-1885) and its apocrypha (of 1898), the american revised version bible (of 1898, it close to the american standard version), the american standard version bible (of 1901), the new american standard bible - updated edition, the new revised standard version bible with the apocrypha, the complete bible: an american translation (it includes the apocrypha), and the twentieth century new testament.
i also use others beside those.. they are my favorites because i consider them to be highly accurate, and also they are either very literal (but not so literal as to be hard to understand) or they use functional equivalence.

so the occupation of afghanistan is coming to an end and, as predicted, they achieved absolutely nothing in that 20 years apart from:.
the death of 2,300+ service personnel and tens of thousands more seriously maimed or injured.. handing $billions or even $trillions of taxpayer dollars to defence contractors (so the military industrial complex wins, even if the military doesn't have a clear victory).. has this lengthy but short-term military occupation really changed anything in the country?
it doesn't appear so.. i said at the time that the us wouldn't have the staying power to enact real change.
The same can be said for the USA`s coalition partners such as Australia who lost many lives and many more who suffered injuries both physical and mental.
All for nothing. Now the poor Afghans who supported America and her allies ,have their heads on the chopping block.
it has been 40 years since 1975 when 6000 years of human creation took place according to wt theology, when jesus christ was supposedly to begin his 1000 year reign in which earth was supposed to be turned back to an eden like paradise.. 1975 was the second attempt of the wt to predict when 6000 years of human creation took place, the first time it was supposed to have occurred was in 1872 .. so by that reckoning we should be living 40 years into jesus christ`s 1000 reign .. on the other hand wt theology states that jesus returned in 1914 to do what ?
sit at his fathers right hand until 1975 ?.
of course this all hinges on jehovah`s witnesses / watchtower belief that a creative day was 7000 years long that they taught for decades .. do they still cling to this belief ?
Well if Jesus Christ is with us since 1914 like the WT / JW says and he started his 1,000 year rule, like the organization said was probable in 1975, after 6000 years of human history as the WT/JW claimed ,then what is the only conclusion you can come up with ? ? ?
i keep hearing that the watchtower org is going to be around forever because of the many other religions that have been around a long time.
but i disagree because the wt is not like other religious cults.. the watchtower's breath of life is dependent on the last days that started in 1914. .
you can’t change 1914 without a death blow to the entire organization.. the watchtower's 2nd reason for staying alive, is it's continual urging that the life saving preaching work of warning people is the most important work ever.. but- it's very obvious to many, even the old ones that instead of speeding up the work------the work is slowing down to a drip.. comment by former believer; .
They won`t go out with a bang ,but a whimper ,a slow death that will take many years as they become a more insignificant religion with fewer and fewer members as the years roll on.
many that have come to this forum have left the jws religion and moved on with their lives but from a outsider's viewpoint what do think makes the jws religion wrong or incorrect as a active christian faith ?.
somethings come to mind such as its long continuous end times/armageddon soon doctrine which has really been a core doctrine for decades going right back to its beginning .. maybe they should have adopted the stance as other christian based faiths and adhered to jesus's own words when he said " no one knows of the time not even he ".
.
They claim they have no clergy class ,yet claim clergy penitent privilege in a court of law.

Of course this all hinges on Jehovah`s Witnesses / Watchtower belief that a creative day was 7000 years long that they taught for decades .
Do they still cling to this belief ? or is it one that they don`t talk about anymore hoping no one will bring it up ?
If I remember correctly they did at one stage state a creative day only referred to God`s plan for humans to inhabit the Earth.
In other words they conceded that the Universe could be millions of years old including the earth .
E.G. Gen.1:1 " In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" which could be millions of years ago, then from verse 2 onward it relates only to his plan for inhabiting the earth as a home for humans.
Day one, 7000 years on,day 2, 7000 years on ......and so on.
When WT put the blame back on the R&F for going ahead of Jehovah`s chariot in expecting JC to begin his reign then they ignored the fact that they taught the 7000 creative day ,6000 years of humans under Satan`s influence and as they said it would be an appropriate time for Jesus Christ to begin his 1000 year reign so that after 7000 years JC could hand everything back to Jehovah in perfection.
Comments ?
jehovah`s witnesses make a big deal about the 2 or 3 witnesses in judicial decisions yet they ignore that evidence when it suits them.. firstly :.
regarding the length of a generation matthew ch.1:17 gives a strong clue ,their are 3 lots of 14 generations mentioned which equal 42 generations from the time of abraham to jesus .. watchtower publications give abrahams birth as 2018 bc......they also give jesus birth as of 2 bc a period of 2016 years .
2016 yrs.
Their are so many newbies coming on board now I would like to know what they think of this thread ?
it's pretty easy to see how current events would have any jw convinced the end is imminent, but i just don't see how there could be a major push for zealous service, pioneering, etc.
decades into the future.
even if (when) world events happen periodically that could scare the r&f, there are now countless hours of hd video of jw leaders saying how close the end is.
With JW`s there is always a sense of urgency , its what keeps them going .
If there was no urgency to their message the religion would slowly die out.
But surely sooner or later the "urgency" gimmick has to have run its course among the majority of them and it will not go out with a bang but a whimper.
A Rabbi was interviewed after 60 or so years of praying to God in Jerusalem and asked what he prayed for and his answer was about reconcilliation between Jews and Arabs and for world peace .
Then asked for his opinion after all of these years ,
he replied
I`ts like talking to a brick wall.
the following is a conversation i had with my pimi father regarding a news segment on tv dealing with csa.
joe: that’s terrible the incidences of csa happening in the community.
dad: yes it is.
Well Satan is in control of this world,
How does that coincide with what Romans ch.13 say about the superiour authorities of this world and how this is God`s arrangement and to take a stand against this arrangement is to take a stance against God.?
