the structure and charitable purpose of kssa allows it to provide benevolent disaster relief (‘financial assistance’) to victims of the current bushfires in australia, albeit limited exclusively to “jehovah’s witnesses [who] practice their religion under the spiritual direction of the governing body”.
Both new Jehovah’s Witnesses corporations have registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profit Commission (ACNC) as religious charities.
So they acknowledge here that their "charity" is only for the benefit of Jehovah`s witnesses in good standing as determined by the Elders in each congregation and approved by the Governing body in America /Australia ?
Am I reading this right ? And if I am ,isnt that discrimination against other people in need under these same circumstances ?
Is it even legal for a charity to discriminate in this way ?
Its a huge difference how other religious charities operate here in Australia , the Salvation Army ,Anglicare /Church of England , St.Vincent De Paul /Catholic ,just to name a few who do not discriminate who they give aid and assistance to .
They feed and clothe the poor ,provide assistance for people who fall on hard times regardless of how they ended up in that predicament ,food parcels ,accommodation ,Aged care facilities ,hospitals ,relief for those addicted to drugs and alcohol ,etc ,etc ,all without passing judgement on the individual but are there to provide help and encouragement for these people.
As well as victims of domestic violence and even victims of sexual abuse .
Help is there for all of these people and more by these institutions .
I think they fit the bill of being called Christian
Jehovah`s Witnesses should be ashamed of themselves. They dont come within coo-ee of being a christian religion.
I hope their application for charitable status is rejected as it should be.
