Advice on fade?

hello, i’ve just joined here and am hoping for some advice.

i was baptised a long time ago but left soon after (da).. i recently returned and have a bible study.

was reinstated about a year ago.

Really good advice.

You sometimes don't really see the full extent of jw brainwashing until you've had time away from it.

I bumped into a person from another cong who doesn't know I have long faded.

I asked "How's your sister doing. I used to work with her some time ago?"

They answered. "SHE'S NOT IN THE TRUTH ANYMORE!"

I said, "Sorry to hear that, but how is she, is she ok?"

They then answered even more aggressively and dogmatically "I've just told you, SHE'S NOT IN THE TRUTH!"

I said, "Oh, sorry. Is there a family problem, is she giving you all a hard time spiritually?"

They said "No, not at all - SHE'S JUST NOT IN THE TRUTH SO WE HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH HER!"

I was tempted to mention the recent advice to reach out to those who had left 'The Truth', but I thought, what's the point, as soon as they realise I no longer go to the hall I will be cut off too.

The point is, I could not see it when I was in - I had to leave to see how utterly odd the jw's are.

How the Society can change anything they want

it's been a long time since i last posted here.

however in light of recent changes i have thought a bit about things and have come to the conclusion that the society might.

.. use the "evil slave" argument.

Yes. I've noticed recently that they introduce a scripture perhaps not used before in a certain context.

Then they take an element of the verse they like, and apply it to a new light teaching.

They seem to realise that if they just use even a smidgeon of a verse from the bible, even totally out of context the jw droids will accept their change of thought as Jehovah progressively revealing truth to them

Basically. This is the WT's mortal sin. Don't air any doubts about the GB in public or private, and you've got a decent chance of survival within that organisation.

Very good point.- along with all the other good advice here.

This is how subversive the jw's are:

I've faded for years now. I know not to criticize the gb - but, as I have said here before, they don't even like that.

My own mother said to me: "The problem with you is that you put too much faith in the bible and God and not enough in the gb and the watchtower!!!"

What exactly IS 1914 these days?

it's no longer a year tying to the present (the old pre-1995 generation belief).

realistically, that's the only reason why it mattered.

and if it doesn't really matter what it is anymore, why would jw not do away with it?.

I remember attending a district convention in the mid 1980's as a regular pioneer.

The speaker was shouting at the audience, whipping them into a crescendo of applause about 1914, 1919, being inspected by god, being incarcerated in prison and then being released.

Not one scripture was used in this over emotive rant - I thought to myself - this is all a pile of crap!

But of course, you have to keep your mouth shut until it is the time for you to leave this madcap, kooky, brainwashing cult.

Next to me a few seats along was our current circuit overseer - I noticed with interest that during all this ranting he was fast asleep!
