the double standards were very common in the congregation that I grew up in. the elders, pioneers, COs and POs got all the attention and special priviledges, I knew many of them that were "exempt" from the theocratic ministry school and the congregation book study. As for celebrating the holidays, as far as I know if there were children in the congregation who had an unbelieving parent the elders didnt come down too hard on the believing parent and child(ren) for having christmas in their homes. I know that for the average, ordinary JW christmas and birthdays were and are a no-no, but I wouldnt be surprised if the higher ups go on with those traditions without any care in the world.

Ever been to a "quick-build"?
by WingCommander in" for anyone not that familiar with jw lingo, it is when everyone in the congregation gets together to raise a new kingdom hall in about a week, or a weekend.
kind of like the amish do when they have "barn raisings.
" lol.

Visited by JWs today
by Soledad inmy mom had an accident about two weeks ago, fortunately she is ok. im living in my parents house now after my husband (yet again) threatened to "beat the crap out of me"---that story in another post some other time.
needless to say, ever since she got out of the hospital the phone rings about 50 times a day, mostly calls from the "hermanos.
" today a couple that i have known for about 15 years comes to visit, and their "discomfort" with my presence (i am da) is quite noticeable.

If your mother wishes to meet with her guests privately, why would you insist on barging in?
I didnt barge in, they did. As I mentioned before, my mother is in such a state that she cant move around much, so she would need me close to her practically at all times. plus, it wasnt a private meeting ( the only private room in my house would be the bathroom.) plus plus Im the child, not the guest. religiousness or not, I'm the one who is taking care of her practically full time, not them

normally I would respect my mother's wishes, however, since she did have an accident she requires my assistance just about 24/7, so it wouldn't have made sense to not be by her side (I doubt that the prissy couple that were here today would have done anything for her)
oh and I didnt say what I wrote--I only thought it -

My mom wanted to confine me to another area of the house, since they were in the living room, I was like, "hell no, this is MY damn house, I'll go where I please." I just about killed them with kindness---"would you like some coffee, tea, anything? how about you dear? I just baked some cookies last night they're quite delicious (and they're christmas cookies at that!) Are you sure you dont want anything Tony? Is that one or two sugars with your coffee Markie? with milk or creamer??" In the end they drank all my coffee and ate up the christmas! cookies that I had made. All that and some ear to ear grins too!! I was beside myself!! Their hypocrisy never fails does it?

Hormone Hostage
by Simon inevery "hormone hostage" knows that there are days in the month when all a man has to do is open his mouth and he takes his life in his hands.
this is a handy guide that should be as common as a driver's license in the wallet of every husband, boyfriend, or male child.. dangerous: what's for dinner?.
safer: can i help you with dinner?.

WT goofie phrases.
by Pepper ini used to get into trouble for making light of the these phrases that some elders have told me are to be used only gods people.
lol that you all may know maybe:.
"well, brother that is very "commendable," just before the meeting ends the po says to those in attendance "brothers the time left is reduced," i once heard a co say to those seated during one of his talks "well now, we don't want to die at armageddon now do we, well of course not.

my personal pet peeves:
simplification
permafrost
"very soon"
the path to destruction is easy, but the path to salvation is narrow and difficult....something like that
"sisters"
the world-wide brotherhood, world-wide preaching work, etc
