This seems to be an attitude that hasn't changed since very early in the organization's history. Wasn't it Russell who told readers that they were better off reading his Studies in the Scriptures than they were reading the Bible itself? I mean, he pretty much said that if you only read the Bible, you'd "fall into darkness" after some time, or words to that effect. It's no surprise that they eventually decided on using their own translation of the Bible.

IICSA Final Report
by Phizzy inthe english legal system's independent inquiry into child sexual abuse has issued its final report, and its recommendations.
to read the report in full just google iicsa report, if you search on the iicsa site you can find the specific investigation into j.w's.. but this recommendation from the final report is interesting, esp.
the first and last sentences.

A tax on those institutions that ignored the issue, in effect. It's one way to get them to take real action: hit them in the wallet. Especially those institutions that are usually tax exempt and try to hide their perfidy behind rules and rituals.

and early judicial committee with Rutherford
by neat blue dog inwhile disfellowshipping was doubled down on and reinforced during the time of raymond franz, it definitely existed before that when needed and fits right in with rutherford's personality.
here's an account of norman woodworth who left for dawn bible students, and his proto-judicial committee.
all the modern hallmarks of apostasy trials are there, from the witch-hunt nature to the big all-important gotcha question at the end:.

Interesting, that they convened a board of directors and basically told this fellow that they were God's organization. I didn't realize how much today's GB mirrored the early organization. Russell and Rutherford left a deeper impression than I had thought.

Not Reporting Child Abuse Should Be Prosecuted
by usualusername1 inanyone who works with children and does not report child sexual abuse should be prosecuted, the final report of a huge, seven-year inquiry has recommended.. this could be huge for elders in the uk.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-63318342.

I think people and organizations will find ways to try to get around any law, but I think in this case the act of charging someone with failure to report is significant in itself. Once the charges are out, the individual (and the organization, most likely) needs to respond, and any attempts at legal maneuvering will be reported. With the WTS, you can be sure that they will get involved immediately in order to protect itself, and hopefully this is where the media spotlight will be shined.
We know that CSA happens and that it happens with horrifying frequency. And we know that there are organizations -including some large religious organizations- that are so determined to protect themselves that they will discard any notion of justice and leave victims strewn about. The most effective way to deal with this problem is to shine a bright light on them when they are acting this way, to shame them into putting the safety and health of children first. The goal is to get these organizations to make it a clear policy to their members-- always report it. The child comes first.

Didn't the report recommend a law mandating reporting of CSA? Or is the complaint that they did not specify penalties for failing to report it?

Was / Is God biased ? prejudiced against certain Peoples / Tribes or Nations ?
by smiddy3 inlet me explain :.
after the creation account of the bible, tribes of people and nations began to form and spread around the land.. god first chose noah and his family to protect them as he destroys all others in the flood.. and he ticks off everyone in babel ?
and then he favours abraham and his descendants as the nation of israel culminating in the jewish lineage to jesus the son of god.. he has never had any dealings with any other people`s or nation isn`t that some form of favouritism ?

The Biblical God's methods are frequently brutal. We can make an argument that He has the right to be so, but I can't see another way to describe it. Ruthlessly efficient, in some cases, but still brutal.

In case there is any confusion over the phrase 'works with children,' the article states:
The inquiry says its 20 key recommendations need to be accepted by government as a "matter of urgency".
These include a new law placing a duty to report child abuse on anyone who witnessed it or was told about it by children or perpetrators. In other words: if the law is created and passed, there will be no way to weasel out of it by questioning what it means by "works with children." If you know, you report. If not, you face criminal prosecution.

It is a brutally effective way of showing who the real God is, and how he treats those who are on his side versus those who oppose him.

When The SHTF.
by Lost in the fog inwe have several non-jdub friends who are busy stockpiling foods and goods for the impending societal collapse.
some are happy enough to be called preppers, others are not, but say that looking at the deteriorating condition of the world that it's only a matter of time before the shtf and they want to be prepared to protect themselves and their families when it happens.. contrast that to the jdubs who are actively telling people that the end of the world is coming, but aren't preparing in a practical way because they have been brainwashed by a "jehovah has always protected his servants" mindset from the gb at hq (who laughingly have no reason to be concerned because they're hoping for a quick getaway up to heaven when the jw 'end of the world' comes!).
the most the average jdub has is a go-bag rucksack in case they have to quickly leave their house in the event of a natural disaster like a flood or a wildfire.. isn't it better to be safe than sorry?

A good JW would stockpile two things: a stack of literature to hand out, and all the faith they can muster. After all, God will provide! There's no way it ends with them starving to death and being eaten by rampaging marauders, who then use the pamphlets as toilet paper.
