Sensitivity to Criticism
by singsongboi inmature people are not overly sensitive to criticism -- they recognise their own limitations, and the possible wider experience or knowledge of others.. but, (and reading this board for over 4 months now) it seems to me, that the tougher approach of the gb to differing opinions since the 1980's, is indicative of a social immaturity and sensitivity to criticism.. somehow in their relationship with each other, there is a lack of confidence in what they believe.
( in any case, "truth" is established only by a vote of the gb - there is no modern day urim and thummim - so on the gb opinions can be held - even if not taught).
if you have a lot of confidence in your beliefs, if it's well researched and tested, if you are above all seeking truth -- then you are relaxed about your beliefs.. and there is no need to exclude and shun dissenters.

60 min tonite-Oz TV-see cath. church squirm!
by singsongboi init's already been mentioned -- but worth mentioning again.. if u live in oz, i think this is great tv tonite.
australia's most prominent catholic exposed as he tries to cover up the sins of one of his mates.... here's an extract from the advance publicity from the shows website.... .
that 10 years ago dr george pell attempted to bribe a distressed young man who'd been sexually assaulted by a priest and that dr pell did this to cover up a potential scandal and to protect his church.. and, as you'll see, there's more allegations of money offered to silence the family of two young girls, more tragic victims of a predator in the catholic church.

When a Whole Branch Went Bad !!(or was it Good?)
by singsongboi inwhen a whole branch went bad (or was it good)?
part 1. .
i guess it's too late to get much of the details of this story (outside of the official versions), but we ought not to lose it altogether.. so i'm committing to print what i know of this story, and hoping that somewhere out there will be someone else that knows more than i do, about one of the more exotic incidents in the history of the wts.

RABBIT-PROOF FENCE - Go & see it!!
by singsongboi inthe 'rabbit proof fence' is an australian movie that tells the story of some aboriginal children who escape from a camp established by evil white australians with the mentality of the biblical joshua.. it's just been released in the us.. if you want to understand australia and australians you should see this movie.
it tells a story that should deeply shame all modern australians, but sadly, many, maybe a majority, are not ashamed!!!!.
it was made by phillip noyce, who has also directed good movies like, patriot games, the bone collector, clear & present danger, the saint.. noyce & his male partner live in a funky old house at palm beach nsw, and their home & lifestyle was recently featured on national tv in an australian show called "burke's backyard.. hope this link to a site for the film works..... .

a stupid disfellowshipping...!!!!!
by singsongboi init's a long time ago -- maybe 30 years, but the memory and my personal sadness is still there... reading the other threads on the idiocy of the dfing policy has brought it all back.. a young woman in the congregation, raised by a single mother was forced into the situation of leaving home when here mother re-married a brother in the congregation who felt that he did not want this young woman (aged about 19 as i recall it) living in his home.. the young woman is best described by the expression - " one of those who god forgot ", that is, when it comes to handing out the 'charms' that make us welcome in social situations.***.
the young woman found accommodation in a kind of rooming house.
there, she came into contact with an older man - not a witness, of course.

hong's journey to sonship!!!!!
by singsongboi inwalk a little further with hong, as he journeys towards being a brother to jesus!!!!.
these are my notes from jonathons spence's book.... " god's chinese son" and follows on from a previous topic.. ___________________________________________________________________.
christianity does not spring fully grown from the earth, even tho jesus claimed the very stones would cry out, if his followers failed to pass on his message.. so it is with hong's journey to realisation that he was a son of god.

hong xiuquan, and the heavenly hope.
by singsongboi inone of the most instructive books i have read in my post-christian life, is called "god's chinese son" by jonathon spence.. it's the story of hong xiuquan, who became the founder of the taiping christian religion in china - and forced to fight for his/it's existence, came close to overthrowing the qing (manchu) dynasty... it's an instructive story, because xiuquan after having studied the bible with missionaries, fell ill and in the time that he wavered between life and death, became convinced that he was the son of god.. here is my lesson --- how often, christian zeal, and conviction of a close (filial) relationship with god grows out of illness.. what do you think ????

Memorial to those betrayed by family
by singsongboi inhave you been disfellowhipped from the "spiritual paradise" for your conscientiously held personal beliefs?.
and were you and betrayed to the elders by family members who reported your personal conversations with them to the copngregation.. this thread is a memorial to you - and to the stupidity and paranoia of the gb, in encouraging this practise.. the stupidity of this doctrine and practise can be illustrated by the following news report (which i read in the sydney morning herald (08-04-02) but which came originally from the english daily telegraph).
i have summarised the following from the article..... ____________________________________________________________.
