If you were leaving your partner...

if you were leaving your husband or wife and you knew that your leaving would cripple them financially, what would you do?

if you were leaving the family home and you knew that your actions would mean your spouse couldn't make the payments, would you offer to help?.

am i being unreasonable in expecting that if someone is going to destroy you and leave then they might be considerate enough to not also take away your home?

If you love him and you believe that he loves you then sit down with him and tell him in complete honesty that you're in the position you're in now because of him and that you can't trust him completely until you're in a position where he can't do that to you again. Tell him if he really wants you back he's going to have to help you fix what he destroyed and that you'd like to see a lawyer about how to handle it in a way that won't leave either one of you broke again. If he doesn't accept that, then run as far and as fast as you can in the other direction and learn to live without him - chances are in that case you will be much happier in the future without him.

Do you beleive in God, the bible or religion?

i'm pretty sure this question has probably been asked before but i'd like to put it out here and see what the responses are.

my doubts about the bible probably began maybe 6 or 7 years ago, they were very small ones however and i managed to supress them for quite a while.

however certain events in my life would make those events resurface.

I was never sure if I believed in God - and was often sure he didn't believe in me. It wasn't until I read the Bible that I realized the God everyone was talking about could not possibly warrant anyone's worship or devotion if he truly was responsible for the atrocities described therein, and it wasn't until I began studying Wicca that I sat down to read the Bible.

After years of searching and always feeling a void, I can say now that I believe in the Goddess - I never felt anyone was listening to my prayers until I directed them to Her. I do not believe in the Bible - it is so full of contradictions and vile examples of God's "love" that it cannot possibly be divinely inspired. I do not and have never believed in religion and never will - I've seen too many examples of how religion is used as an excuse for people to abuse one another. Spirituality is what's important and the only divine wisdom we need is what is written in the world right in front of us, we don't need a book, a translator, a mediator or a magazine to have a relationship with the divine.

Then study Paganism and perhaps you will someday.

Can you please tell me what the purpose of setting aside one day a year for your dad or mom is? Why not honor them everyday? Where does this tradition come from, dear?

I will honestly say I don't know where the tradition comes from, but I can say that setting aside one day of the year and calling it Mother's Day or Father's Day or Grandparent's Day or Secretaries Day or whatever day you want to call it, does not and should not diminish the respect and gratitude those people deserve all year long. Getting upset about having one day called a particular day certainly serves no purpose.

It's weak because it's usually used by people, at least in my personal experience, who do not honor their parents at all. It's usually an argument uttered with a smug grin by someone who thinks they are spouting a profundity that they think the rest of us are too shallow to understand.

Maybe you should call yourself Hilda in Paul rather than Hilda in Christ if you think the words of a mysogynist apostle are more important than the Commandment that says 'Honor thy father and mother.'

I always thought that old argument was so weak - 'oh shouldn't everyday be mother's day... blah blah blah...' It certainly doesn't hold true for those whose parents are DF or DA and are shunned with the idea that it's more important to follow the laws of the WTS than the Bible.

Is Anything Worth Dying For?

i often hear people here talk about the horrible jw willingness to die for blood transfusions.

maybe jws are mistaken when it comes to the bt issue; maybe not.

however i wonder if there is anything that is really worth dying for in this life.. for me, to live is christ and to die is gain.

Hi Hilda,

Your question didn't strike me as trollish. I think freedom is worth dying for. If I had the choice let's say of living under the rule of an oppressive, cruel religion or government, or die fighting for a better way of life for myself and my children I would chose to fight and possibly lose my life rather than live let's say as women are forced to live under Taliban rule or some other such nonsense that goes on in the less enlightened societies on this planet.

I strongly disagree however that it is sensible or proper to throw away ones life in order to remain 'loyal' to a deity. The idea is absurd to me and very hyprocritical of religions who go around spouting how sacred life is and yet how horrible it is at the same time. Either you see life as a gift from God that should be cherished, or you see it as a punishment from God that should be endured until it's over and you get something better as a reward for your sacrifice. Either way throwing in the towel over a blood transfusion is obscene.

I do, however defend that everyone has a right to live their lives or die as they see fit. If someone truly believes they must allow themselves to die to remain loyal to their god, that's their business entirely. I object when they feel they have to make that decision for their children - allowing them to die to keep them somehow 'pure' for God's sake is not the act of a decent parent.

I was a little surprised. I figured if that were the case it would be front page news, maybe the web would even carry the headline. I was also a little confused as to where Christ would 'rise' from. Shouldn't he 'descend' if he's returning to Earth?

It just struck me as a very misleading message.

This is great. LOL! There must be a paragraph missing though - there's no mention of the lottery winners who thank God for answering their prayers to receive countless millions while ignoring those who pray for enough cash to buy their next meal. Those people are my personal favorites.
