  Igimar.....a side point.

  As far as him believing you are influences by Satan, try to have a lighthearted discussion about it. Ask him "how". How is Satan influencing you. Your mind? Does that mean he thinks you are possesed? Of so then is he whispering in your ear? The bible explains people are free moral agents and have to "invite" the demons into their mind so to speak. Since you haven't done that, what is he saying? Because you don't feel the same way about the religion? Is there a scriptue to suggest that means you are possed by the Devil?

  I mean I had these type of stupid arguements with others BEFORE I started questioning the religion of my youth. It just makes no sense, and yet is automatically accepted as possible just because. This whole demon influence thing is fun to poke holes in. When you guys are a little more light hearted, poke a few holes. Get him to laugh. :)

  Yeah I like the Mormon video. Its a piece of marketing the same as the JW video is, but Mormons actually consider JUST HELPING part of their responsibility of spreading the gospel. I am sure the mormons helped their own as well. Maybe even moreso. But there weren't hundreds of JW's trolling the streets just looking for a way to help the community.

  If your intent was to push him closer to the JW religion, and to emotionally relieve yourself.....mission accomplished. Very little is accomplished when the c word is throw out there. Regardless of the Oxford definition, the real world conotation is extreme. People think Jonestown and Heavens Gate when they hear this word. Evangelicals know this and that is why they purposely tag JW's with it.

  However, I prefer the term high control group. I also think it conveys the SAME THING as you mean when you call it a cult.

  Here is a thought for when you guys have calmed down and have the "light discussion" again.

  In order for light to get brighter, doesn't it have to be light to begin with? The history of our faith shows the complete abandonment of teachings, not their "refinement" as is commonly thought of. For goodness sake, after over 130 years they just figured out who the FDS is!

  You want to start discussions. In order to do that, you have to be willing to give and take. Keep using the C word and you will end up exactly where you think you will.

  So here is the redux of advise that is serious as far as I can tell.

  1) Read the Hassan book.

  2) Learn as much about JW's (good bad and ugly), to understand the mind state.

  3) Ultimatums are useless and reinforce his thinking. You would be considered "persecuting" him.

  4) Unravel trust in the org. Maybe it would even be good to attend a meeting with him, supporting his searching mind. Then things can be introduced by you, since you are not a JW.

  5) Very likely he is going back to chase a feeling he once had, or be part of a community. Friendships and all that. Does he have friends? Have them over. be his friend. You can't light a safety fire around this. Just take it slow.

  at my last meeting i picked up the new feb 1, 2013 wt.

  my first reaction was " is this a joke?

  " i said so out loud to the literature servant.

  Wow. I had to go read it for myself. Hard to believe it is so cleanly laid out like that?

  I can imagine my conversation with an elder. "So brother inmybiz, would you say my doubts would maybe one day be solved as the light gets brighter? Yes? Well I like this young brother am disappointed by that explanation."

  I dug deeper into the teachings of my faith and also consulted with responsible Mormon Church leaders. I was told that the answers to my questions involved mysteries that one day would be solved as the light became brighter.

  Disappointed by their explanation, I looked more closely at myself and my reason for wanting to become a Mormon missionary. I realized that I was attracted to the idea of becoming a missionary just as I would be to any other humanitarian cause.

  others have personality issues.

  some have doctrinal and prophecy reasons.

  I have alot of reasons personally I could point to, but personal experience I don't believe alone is justification for something. Anyone can be mistreated, and anyone can be treated well. That is geographical and human, not based on the religion itself.

  For me its 2 things.

  1) Blood. It should be a conscience matter, and I am thoroughly convinced of that.

  2) Enforcement of belief (including blood), through disfellowshipping. I just don't see a scriptural parallel.

  increases in pubs are decreasing annually, 1.9% worldwide, .9% u.s. .

  I think we are ignoring the obvious. The branch has made a push in pioneering recently more than before. They are betting on the 80/20 rule in reverse. So more people are choosing to pioneer as a result of their efforts.

  hey everyone!

  i'm so happy that i finnally joined i just turned 17 and i have so many questions about the org.. i've been lurking around the site for months, and love reading experiences about bethel, and all the hypocricy that the wtbts spews out.. so i finally joined in and hope to make some great friends.. a little about me:.

  im male, 17, and i am a born-in, so this is all i know... i was baptised at age 13 i beleive.... my gramma, and grampa and mom , and sisters and brothers, are all jw's.

  Welcome young man. Try to learn as much as you can and be very careful about what you learn. You do not want to lose your family and friend overnight simply for questioning your faith.

  I was baptized at 13 as well.
