to keep things readable i'll post "highlights" over the next several days in different topics.
point 1: they have progressed from "just plain" stupid to dangerously stupid.. .
ETHOS - The "Flock" book is most certainly not public. The communication of letters from the branch is not public. The dissemination of special tasks is not public. The letters written from one congregation to another ABOUT YOU are not public. Even though the letter is about you, you cannot see them. The financials for the branch in any country where it is not legally required is not public. Local elders meetings are not public. Elder and servants schools are not public. MTS and Gilead schools are not public.
All of these things and more are not just "not public", but considered secrets. I remember approchign the guys in my hall with "how was the elders school", and they tell me how wonderful it was but that they can't go into it but are convinced of the love the branch has for the friends.
Come on bud. To suggest that there isn't a rather large issue with secrecy in our organization is not to be very intellectually honest.

ETHOS - Ever been appointed? Ever been in these meetings? If not, I would say you may need to defer a little to those that have. I don't ever have a problem with someone offering comfort from the scriptures. But what is OBVIOUS, to you, certainly is not to others and vice versa.
I understand you are trying to balance out the scales a little, and I agree sometimes whatever the branch does is the wrong thing on the board here no matter what. Consider your audience. It is the same in reverse at the congregations where any well meaning church is still derided for what they are not doing or teaching.
In this case, the policy of the branch SHOULD be that if someone like was described, had 1 year later been still dealing with suicidal tendancies, that they should also direct them to professional help, not just make them feel better for 5 minutes. It is irresponsible. There are some elders that would know that, and many many more that would not. Think about the elders in underdeveloped nations for example. I do all the time. I served in one. They will overread into everything the branch does or DOES NOT tell them as having purpose. Many peopel here in the US as well.
It really can be very irresponsible. I think that is the point here.
hi guys, i am known to some on here and to prevent further problems from the trolls that may identify my son from what i am disclosing i have a different name.
so, my 26 year old son gets the diagnosis ocular melanoma back on june 14th this year with a very bleak outlook.
i walked away from the cult some years ago, however my son stayed in as he was engaged to an uber witness girl.
So if they sling him out, maybe you take him in? (wink, wink)

@ Cedars - You said it. This is exactly the scenario when they could make a move to get some REAL training to these guys about how to deal with depression, what it is like, suicide being dealt with very seriously and how they could refer that person to secular health. Instead its just te encouragement to not tell the woman suicide is a sin too and makes you a murdurer.
Hilarious. It reminds me of the Simpsons when Bart gets a knife and an instruction booklet called "Don't do what Donny don't does". It was confusing.

This is one where you son has a way out like DOC suggests. When dealing with life and death matters, the rules are "bent" a little so as not to seem "unloving".
So his in-laws are taking an incorrect stance even by JW standards. I am curious as to how the conversation with them went. What did they say to you? (if that isn't prying of course.)
i've raised this idea before but recent events seem to support it.
changes in the watchtower may be guided by more than a need for cash flow: they may simply be liquidating/shutting it down as discreetly as possible.. of course, this doesn't mean they stop working on their upstate ny country club - but it could mean that the throrough going exposure and disproof of their beliefs on the internet, when it emerged, took many of them by surprize, as it did many of us!
after awhile, they generally gave up trying to make any sense of their doctrines - and coupled with cash flow issues - moved towards a quiet retreat.. take a look at a few things:.
I hate to say it guys, because the thread has interest.....but there is no way this religion is going anywhere. They are simply making prudent buisness decisions for the 21st century. I have noticed a little bit of damned if you do and damned if you don't here on the board. If they don't go high tech its because they are living in the dark ages, trying to control people with tactile feeling magazines they attach an emotional bond to yadda yadda yadda. If they go high tech and less paper it because they are going broke and hoarding money.
I honestly think the truth is in the middle. They are going high tech because it is cheaper and they are also taking in less money and having to settle some law suits. But this group isn't going anywhere, and if the sheep ask why things are being scaled back, I am sure it will all just be in preparation for the tribulation and the enemies of Gods people to not be able to completely shut down the work or some kind of narrative along those lines.
Thats just my thoughts anyways.
i want to know.. does every kingdom hall, bethel and assembly hall belong to the watchtower, bible & tract society?.
each of those kingdom halls, bethels etc are built with the money obtained by that country's contributions.
if a loan is needed the bothers of that specific congregation pay off the loan.. the society has then an extremely huge amount of property worth billions of $$$$ who has control of all those funds?
Hey guys, I have heard about this dabbling in the stock market thing before. Can someone elaborate with me? Are we talking about something other than rand-cam?
....would you tell them the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?.
.
when just one person listens, will you do the same?.
My mentor always told me that in buisness many times you are ready to say something, but the other person isn't ready to hear it. So what you want to accomplish with your words is doomed before you use them. You need to be patient and wait until you see something that may be evidence of them being "ready" to hear something you have to say.
Same applies here......probably moreso.
