Do any of the JWs go out door to door with a territory any more?

i actually had a neighbor ask me that the other day (she knows i'm an "ex" jw) and i didn't really know the answer.

i know there's a bit of cart witnessing going on (small town) and a lot of driving around to return visits.. but are they actually doing territory, not-at-homes, all of that?

the neighbor said that eight years ago, when she bought her house, the jws were by "all the time".

And to think, growing up, we had to suffer with going out three hours straight (no break) with a real 3-5 minute presentation AND literature (this is in the 60s and 70s). All sorts of open note taking on the street (and I agree, how crazy did that look to the householder watching from behind the living room curtain) and keeping your territory straight so when you turned it in you could tell the territory brother it had been thoroughly worked. By the time I was in my 30s it had been diluted to driving around looking busy.... and now, most areas not really getting worked at all, and that is normal.

So, the trend is actually going downward, steadily. I can't see any real preaching happening in another 20 years or so.

This is why I was wondering if the old way of checking out territories, working the doors (to death) and keeping all the records had gone away. I'm aware from reading other threads that keeping "not at home" records may not be compliant with new privacy laws in the UK, and of course the US could follow that path.

I don't hear any conversation these days about checking out territories and keeping up on return visits. The "zeal" just doesn't seem to be there. But then, the ones I still know are so busy trying to make a living there's not a lot of extra time. Door to door might just die out due to lack of enthusiasm. I don't even see the local Mormons going around town.

The last time I actually saw JWs on the street was a couple of years ago during the CO visit. Never see them any more. Perhaps they are just faking their time, or making up return visits? We used to do a lot of nonsensical driving around years ago, when I was still in.

I got to wondering if the territory keeping had changed and I didn't even know. lol

It's been so long I wasn't sure.

from 2012 thru 2016, congregations in georgia and alabama collected funds to build a new assembly hall in south atlanta.

to date, 3.5 million dollars was collected and 75 acres was purchased.

the branch decided that this assembly hall was not needed.

Jehovah Misses Me

made the mistake of opening the front door today...i was expecting someone to service our central heating...oh dear, it was a sister instead :(.

she tells me jehovah misses me.

it seems god only sees me if i go to the meetings.

Ah, yes, Jehovah misses you because it's harder to jerk your chain or watch you twist in the wind emotionally if you're elsewhere, and happy.

@Giordano, I agree. The JWs have turned their God into some sort of Good Luck Charm crossed with an idol in a temple. If he's not happy, you just keep throwing stuff (or your children, or your happiness) at him until he sweetens up.

I was told something similar to this a couple of years ago, by a "spiritual sister" who saw me at the grocery store. Oh, so righteous. Happiness can only be found at the KH. Or..... is it that prescription drug habit that's keeping you happy? Just sayin'.

I agree with Smiddy that the GB are embarrassed by the earlier publications (who wouldn't be?). I kept a couple of ones from my mother's library (with quotes relating to 1975 and the "end of the system by the end of the 20th century").

I also obtained an original 1980 yearbook off of Amazon for a few dollars.

The last thing they want to see is someone with physical proof of all the crazy stuff they wrote earlier.

It also occurred to me that we are in a new era - the WT and AW (are there still Awakes?) will be quite rare in print and hardly seen by people who are not JWs. Printing is fading away. This would have been absolutely unthinkable in the 70s and 80s.

It does make it easier on the GB, they can just re-write history as needed. Modern society, because of the internet, doesn't maintain a "tribal knowledge" of literature based on books, as in centuries past.

I see the similarity. A friend of mine continues to shun her brother because she wants to "maintain loyalty" blah blah blah..... same idea. Loyalty above common sense, loyalty above your own ethics.

Loosing your Privleges and Scumbag elders

so 9 months before i started pioneering, i had a hot and heavy moment with this player witness who was just trying to string me along and talked to a lot of different girls.

we made out and he grabbed my goodies a few times you know the regular stuff all teens do at least once.

anyways i never saw him again because when i refused to send him nudes he dropped me.

Addison, this is how the bOrg and the elders ABUSE single women. Jerking them around over their private life, taking a ridiculous "privilege" away, and then just basically making your congregation life dull and demeaning. I can name several sisters I know in this situation, who have wasted years - decades - on the hamster wheel of congregational approval.

Then, if they do get married, it's frequently to someone they would never have picked initially. The bOrg's rules for chaperoning ruin most chances of getting to know your prospective spouse in any real way before you get married. And then, no divorce allowed!
