I have better things to do with my time and money. If people want to be jerks and assholes, it says more about them than it does about me. They are having their reward in full.

Be honest. Am I an abusive Father??
by DATA-DOG ini was angry with my kid for questioning me.
i work, i pay the bills, i provide food, clothing and shelter for them.
instead of respect, i get attitude.
-
Scully
With remarks like the one you threw at your kid, is it any wonder that he has "attitude"?
Look at it another way. Suppose after saying that to your child, something awful happened, like him getting killed in a car accident. Are those really the last words you'd want him to hear from you?
Apologize.
You're the grown up. You're supposed to know better, and you're supposed to set the example for appropriate behaviour. Show him what that looks like so that he can learn from you.
Apologize.

That's rich, coming from 8 million people who refuse to participate in the Lord's Evening Meal, i.e., rejecting the blood and body of Jesus.

How can I stay motivated for field ministry?

Perhaps he needs to be reminded of the old adage: Insanity is when you keep doing the same thing, but expect different results.
Does he get the kind of "results" that the WTS tells him he'll have? Magazine Placements™, Bible Studies™, new ones being recruited? The WTS wants him to believe that the reason he doesn't succeed is because of a flaw in himself, when in reality, the flaw is in the methodology. How many successful businesses utilize door-to-door sales anymore? The fact of the matter is that the Field Ministry™ is, by and large, an ineffective recruitment tool, just as ineffective as cold calling done by telemarketers.
If he wants to think of Field Ministry™ as a way to spend time with fellow believers and reinforce each other's delusion while cooped up in a crowded vehicle between territories or over coffee break, that's one thing. But if he's looking for a way to become more successful at it (as defined by the WTS) he's likely to become less motivated and less satisfied.
Perhaps he needs to redefine what "success" means when it comes to the Door-to-Door™ work, and have it be his definition, not theirs.

I had a creepy experience one time while assigned to work in the nursery at the hospital. The room was packed with about 15 cots, each with a baby in it. One of my colleagues had asked me to bathe one of the babies in her care while he was in the nursery - his mother had gone for a shower and she didn't want to leave the baby unattended.
So I set to looking around for this baby, checking the names on each bassinette, when suddenly I hear a male voice call my name. I turned around toward the sound of the voice, but nobody was there. However, right in front of me was a baby who was silently choking and gray in colour - it was the baby I was looking for actually - and I grabbed him and brought him to the resus area and started resuscitation efforts and then pulled the emergency alarm to bring more help.
That was probably 13 or 14 years ago. I was still a sort-of believer at that point in time and it gave me the heebie-jeebies, as did a lot of other weird stuff that happens at the hospital. Now, I'd probably ascribe it to the fact that I had been working a string of nights and still had young children who needed my attention after school, so I was quite sleep deprived.

I never really found Seth MacFarlane's humour all that funny.
But in supporting the cause of offending JWs, I may have to start watching Family Guy after all.

The idea that everyone is in some sort of closet at certain times of their lives was an a-ha! moment for me.

She sounds like she can be a bit of an emotional vampire. That's such a draining relationship to have to cope with - I try to disengage from people like that ASAP.
You have the right to your own life, your own private time with your husband. She doesn't own you and you don't answer to her or have to provide a reason why you were unavailable for her during your private time.
Perhaps it's a lack of maturity on her part that makes her feel that she has you at her beck and call, but you don't have to enable that behaviour either - it's not going to serve her well as she gets older and realizes that the world doesn't work that way.

Grace,
You're old enough to have earned the right to speak your mind without having to worry about what other people think.
