in the old testament god is invisible or no one can see the face of god and live. Yet god seems to deal with people in some form of manifestation. Now that being the angel of the lord or word of the lord.
Now looking into the new testament its pretty obvious the writers believed jesus was this old testament manifestation of god.
Now how this becomes the trinity, i dont know but jehovah witnesses have no right to be critical. They dont even understand basic christology.
when i was young everybody used to fantasise constantly about how brave we would all need to be "when the persecution comes".
we worried about what "they" would do to us and how we would never talk or betray other jws.
psychologically it was a damaging environment for children; but maybe that's another topic.. who would have thought that when it finally came it would take the form of being sued for protecting pedophiles.

in isaiah 7:14 "therefore jehovah himself will give you men a sign look the maiden herself will actually become pregnant and she is giving birth to a son and she will certainly call his name immanuel".
this scripture is attributed to the virgin birth of jesus from his mother mary to become the messiah.
the problem is the name of the messiah isnt jesus its immanuel .
Immanuel is used more as a title than an actual name meaning " god with us".
Its like calling Steve Austin the rattlesnake. Sorry for the stupid wrestling analogy. Its all i could think of.
i am a bereavement coordinator with a hospice company.
i have noticed that most often jw patients decline chaplain care and also the family ends up declining bereavement care.
where i work our chaplains do not proselytize at all...they merely walk with the patient in their faith at the end of life.
The watchtower and tract society pay alot of lipservice to god, jesus and the bible but in reality it is just a belief in seven magical men in new york and though your works and obedience and works to these men and the organization they lead you will survive Armageddon.
The average jw looks at you with disgust and contempt. Thats why they reject your services.

i cannot think of a single doctrine that is so clearly laid out in the bible that every christian sect teaches the same point.
are there any doctrine where there is total consensus amongst all christian religions, including jehovah's witnesses?.
I have an uncle who has pastored Baptist, Mennonite and evangelical churches. I really have to disagree that there are huge dogmatic gaps between 98% of christian churches.
Ex dubs have a tough time even after believing that you can be a Christian without a telemarketer package. How can we be christians if dont all have the same view of the book of relevations etc etc.
The idea of tenets of faith and the rest are just details is so alien to the jws.

What i have noticed at jw funerals is no one cries. Its honestly really creepy. Of course 5 mins about the person and 30 mins about the borg.
The part really bugs me is the counting. You could see the elders at the back taking attendance. Not really sure why.

a couple of examples of scriptures hardly ever quoted is 1 tim.
2:12- "i do not permit a woman to teach, or to exercise authority over a man, but to be in silence".
or verse 11- "let a woman learn in silence with full submissiveness.".
Anything about faith over works. Basically the entire book of romans.

Jesus was the manifestation of god in the flesh.
You are saved by grace not works.
All true christians are the body of christ ( the church). Its not an organizational or denomination thing.
my active and in jw wife is up for reading bible together.
thing is she wants to use nwt.. i have problems with that translation as you my imagine.. just wondering if you thought the true message of the bible will shine through the deliberate tampering of the nwt?.
i know many people here don't like or want to read the bible and think it's rubbish anyway, so if that's you, you can save your comments :-).
The bible is extremely boring and quite complex. I really hate when people say reading it is so life changing. Some parts of it are done right nasty. I actually have a so called childrens niv with warnings to say out of parts of the new testament.
I do enjoy listening to academics and real scholars talk about it. It is quite interesting if you deal with people who know what they are talking about.
The problem i have with nwt is it tries to isolate and obscure single verses assuming the reader doesn't know the intent of the authors. New testament writers believed jesus was the physical manifestation of jehovah god from the old testament. There is no big picture in the nwt.
Its so stupid, its not even the bible.
