The majority of the harassment seems to focus on women and unbaptized mates.

Do men get the same amount of crap for wandering off the reservation that women get or does it really not matter because options aren’t so slim. i.e women to men ratio

About five years ago we had a women in the hall commit suicide. She came from a very devout JW family and she was Sally plain and tall. Nice women but it just broke her heart she had no husband or children. I think the no children part really killed her inside. Of course leaving the reservation for a mate wasn’t an option. She was 46 when she did it.

I saw a single sister with her “worldly” boyfriend in the KH and an Elder did a marry in the lord talk and ended it with “ do you think you could find so and so sister a good Christian man “.

My jaw just dropped. The guy was even studying.

For people that are so worried about saving people from being destroyed at the big A, you sure have no problem kicking people when they are down.

I was having a discussion with an old friend last night. Her parents are divorced and his mother never became “one of Jehovah Witnesses “ .

Long story short she claims elders are generally hardier on women than men. There seems to be a boys will be boys attitude but with the women it generally witch-hunt mode with any scent of a sin.

I never really thought about it but I don’t doubt her for a second.

Thoughts and opinions ?

Has anyone been shunned by a REAL sinner?

just curious..... has anyone been shunned (just decided to leave the cult)?

let me explain my situation:.

a family member seems to be shunning me.

When I was 18, I was hanging out with these guys and they told me they were going out to some farm to “fill up “ which was code for steal some gas. I didn’t want anything to do with it so I said “screw you guys, I am going home”.

Later that night they were arrested. They went on to tell the police I was the one who told them about the spot and the previous gas thieves were all me. I was questioned by the police and nothing became of it but still, what a dirtball thing to do to someone.

Fast forward years later and we are both 40 and I see him at the Kingdom Hall. I rarely attend and find out one of them is studying to be a Jehovah Witness. I go to talk to him and tells me that he isn’t supposed to talk to me.

I laughed. I was like “ dude I was only being polite, I still don’t like you so please by all means stay away from me.”.

The book of Jeremiah

it occurred to me the other day that i don't actually know all that much about the bible.

dont get me wrong, i was a very dedicated and studious jehovah's witness and i studied the bible every day - or so i thought.

i have now realised that during the time i spent in that religion i didn't study the bible - i studied jehovah's witness theology.

i have now realised that during the time i spent in that religion i didn't study the bible - i studied jehovah's witness theology.

Once you understand the plurality of god in the old testament and then read the New Testament, everything you learn as a JW goes out the window. The statement “ Jesus and Jehovah “ just makes my skin crawl.

I also later learned how much of the theology is really just twisting parables and nutty connections to the book of revelations yet the average JW couldn't explain the book of Romans or even pass an entry level University introduction to Christian theology class.

It later starts to piss you off when you find out the WTS just basically takes the old testament and the law of Moses and replaces it with the law of the elders. There really is no difference between the old and new testament to a JW.

We have a doctor in our hall. He is a born in and originally from the third world so I do cut him some slack. He is a really nice guy.

His kids are in organized sports. No one bats an eye about it.

The funny part is they are black and already head over shoulders better than the white kids. What happens when they really get older and find out they are generally quicker, faster and stronger than the majority of kids in their school. Are they really going to want to quit ?

Its says in his retirement , he went back to school and finished his degree . He also coached youth basketball.

Man that must have been one liberal hall or maybe he just didn’t care. Or he was a superstar in the hall so they just looked the other way.

Mind you this is Wikipedia. Who knows what is true.

In memory of a lost doctrine - the vindication of Jehovah's name

i start this thread in response to a comment by a jw apologist called simonsays on another thread.

he claimed to have read all three volumes of vindication by rutherford (my sympathy if true).

he further implied that it didn't matter that old jw literature said wrong and stupid things, saying:.

I saw this speaker talk one time about “Using the name of god “.

He went into some old testament examples , one being an angel that someone was supposed to obey because “ his name was in him “ or his name rested there or sometimes god is just referred to as the name.

When Jesus said “ he made his name known to man “ it is more about the power of attributes of god, than the actual vowels and consonants.

's excluded from the new covenant, but apparently none of the first century christians are part of the "israel of god" - aka "spiritual israel.".

That one really bugged me over time. You would think if gods final plan for humanity was to give us seven magical wizards, the bible would have been quite clear about the subject. You would think there would be hundreds of prophecies in the Old Testament about the magnificent faithful slave.
