I would just sing the damn songs anyway I like including improvised lyrics, but do it with heartfelt spirit. I'm suprised they haven't created choirs yet... Probably not enough local talent to make it possible though. -

Welcome Darryl. Not from Richmond, but spent a lot (too much) of time attending conventions at the Coliseum. -

i have the entire service group coming over for dinner on sunday.
i don't mind when my wife has a couple over that are cool, but with more than 2 or 3 extra people in my house i get nervous.

It was kind of difficult to avoid the wall of hay bales at the end of my property. I told the young elder (into sports generally) what is was for and asked him if he wanted to give it a try. Nobody had done any archery before, but soon they were all outside giving it a go. I didn't hear any negative comments from either elder or the pioneer sister. I guess as long as you balance it out with a few kingdom melodies later, you are ok. They were joking that next time I needed pistols! -

Update Summary: it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but still they had to sing KM songs.
Details: Thery were supposed to come over directly after the meeting (around 1 pm) but 'apparently' some of them felt the need to get in an hour of service first. They started wandering in at around 2:30, a car load at a time. Of course my wife had told me 3, so I hadn't put the dogs away first. Some had obviously gone home instead of service and changed into street clothes.
I invited one young elder to try his hand at archery and off we went. Soon almost everyone was in my backyard launching arrows toward my target (backed by a wall of hay bales). Good I had done my shooting earlier, because after a few demo's I never got another chance. Then we got called in for dinner. It was a beautiful afternoon for this time of the year in Poland. 50F, no wind, sunny.
Dinner went fine (around 15 total, 2 elders, 1 pioneer). Lots of busy chit-chat. Then when we were done with desert, it was time for some singing! Out came all the iPads, and out I went to the yard. They must have done 10-20 songs, some more than once. I popped in and out (Barking dogs are a great excuse to go check on things), took a brief rest in the bedroom. And finally, they left.
Everyone was polite and gracious. Nobody tried to pidgeon-hole me for a one-on-one. My wife was happy that I helped out so much getting ready for the event. So, I survived. I think the key was she has already made it clear that I have some type of phobia being around large (more than 3 or 4) groups of people. So far it is working.

@stuckinarut: you may have hit on a weak spot. I am not normally hospitable, happy or positive. And I am certainly not interested in what they are doing. As opposed to living a happy and successful life, I'm just 'happy' to still be above ground. -

@Landy: I don't really want to wind anyone up. I just want to be left alone. They are for the most part nice people. I just can't handle them in quantity. -

@GrreatTeacher: I have been in a few of those congregations back when I was in the US. They seem to operate on a different wavelength. All in all, I can't say I was ever in a bad congregation - but that doesn't change the fact that it is a cult. -

@blondie: we had some summer bbq's at our house before I went off reservation. Lots of good non-jw activity. Some of the teens/young adults brought their guitars. They did some non-jw songs and a few jw songs around the bonfire. Singing was actually pretty good. I wasn't embarrased anyway that the neighbor's heard it. Thanks for the reminder about the pointsetta, but they are not plant munchers (although they do like to dig up new trees that I plant for some reason). -

@nicolaou: I could set it up to run in a continuous loop. Might scare away nosey folks who wanted to check my browsing history. They would flee from the demonz... -

Drink Driving
by Simon inwith the christmas almost upon us i would like to share a personal experience with you about drinking and driving.. as you may know the local police are having a serious go at drink drivers this year... well, a couple of days ago i was out for an evening with friends and had a small number of drinks before dinner, followed by some rather nice red wine.
feeling jolly i still had the sense to know that i may be very slightly over the limit.. that's when i did something that i've never done before - i took a taxi home.. sure enough on the way home there was a police road check, but since it was a taxi they waved it past.
i arrived home safely without incident.. this was a real surprise as i had never driven a taxi before, i don't know where i got it and now that it's in my garage i don't know what to do with it.. any ideas?.

I thought everyone got that! I think it was a point nicely made... Marked 'G' for illustrations.
