I had 'friends' that were pushing some king of juice (noni?) tell my teenaged type-1 diabetic son that he could stop taking insulin once he started drinking their juice. I was ready to strangle them!

Tree Hugging
by still thinking intree hugging now scientifically validated .
die hard conservatives love to disparage liberals as tree huggers, but it has been recently scientifically validated that hugging trees is actually good for you.
research has shown that you don't even have to touch a tree to get better, you just need to be within its vicinity has a beneficial effect.. in a recently published book, blinded by science, the author matthew silverstone, proves scientifically that trees do in fact improve many health issues such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (adhd), concentration levels, reaction times, depression and other forms of mental illness.

There is lots of stuff out there on the web. Even some of the site's promoting NI generators have some good links (of course they would). Wiki and WebMD are good places to start.

It might also have something to do with negative-ions.
Concentration of Negative Ions in Different Environments
Environment Concentration *
Waterfalls 95,000 - 450,000
Mountains, seashores, breezy forest 50,000 - 100,000
Breezy country meadow 5,000 - 50,000
Cities 100 - 2000
Rooms and offices 40 - 100
Rooms with Air Conditioner 0 - 20
*Approximate Concentration of Negative Ions per cubic centimeter (cc3)I also read in another article that pine/evergreen forests were especially beneficial. Not sure if any of this is true, but I prefer to spend as much time as possible in the forest. It helps that my back yard is up against a national forest. My wife and her friends think I am crazy. Isn't it boring to spend so much time by yourself in the forest - they ask before going back to the tv?

Attention Lurkers, newbies and fence sitters and shunned ones!!!!
by Crazyguy inits time to be blunt, the jw religions denies their members the messiah.
do your research people, go to your cd library and type the word "mediator" in brackets or parentheses, and then hit search button.
after reading all you can you'll see that according to them, jesus only mediates for the 144k.

Crazyguy - you are right about the swearing. And it is something I really need to work on. It is not helpful. My wife thinks I've become demon-possessed. I need to push through past the anger stage ASAP.

Notes from English speaking DC in Poland
by FadeToBlack ini managed to weasel out of friday, so no comments on the days program.
i'm sure it was marvellous.
i made it thru saturday's program in a fairly sociable mood, saying hello to a few folks we hadn't seen in years.

I agree Billy, but I doubt that would have gone over well. It would have been funny to watch the reaction of the audience. Even if he said that, he probably would have found a way to plug jw.org. We can only hope that one-day, some brave dude will go off-reservation and say that. I don't think it is entirely impossible.

I think as Ouibelette (sorry about spelling) mentioned recently, their comparison about Apollo's progressive understanding of the truth and the way it works in WT land fell short. This is a big issue with me. I have tried to explain this several times to my wife. The best example I could come up with about what progressive understanding means is math.
In 9th grade, you learned Algebra. In 10th, geometry. What we learned about geometry did not mean we had to forget everything we learned about Algebra.(OK you might forget it, but it is still valid, true, and useful). With prior Wt teachings, not so much.

The Pit of Despair, or going to the DC
by dissonance_resolved inso our dc is coming up and my level of anxiety and depression is through the roof.
i've been fading and have noticed that when i don't go the meetings, i'm happy, calm and positive, but when i do go, it takes at least a week to recover.
so the prospect of three straight days has me in an absolute panic.

@dissonance_resolved: glad to hear you survived. I made it thru Saturday, but today was tough for me. One day is all I can handle. I really just wanted to stand up and shout: This is nonsense. I've had enough. And then leave.

Hypothetical question about level/depth of talks at DC this year?
by FadeToBlack infor those of you who had to go this year and have been in for a while, how do you think someone from the 40's or even the 70's would react if they had to sit thru the 2013 dc?
for me, it was like 'land of the stupid'.
everything seemed to be presented at about a 4th grade level (my apologies in advance to 4th graders who are more advanced than adult jw's).

For me, it was like 'Land of the Stupid'. Everything seemed to be presented at about a 4th grade level (my apologies in advance to 4th graders who are more advanced than adult JW's). I'm not sayin the stuff back then made any more sense, but at least they seemed to address people at a 10th grade level back then.
The symposium talks were the worst. 10 minutes, ask a question 3 bullet points with a demo. Review. Perhaps it just seemed worse to me because the Polish brothers and sisters were applauding wildly for everything, even a 20 second demo. To make matters worse, they just all seemed so earnest. I felt like we were in parallel universes.
