Can the lifesaving, worldwide preaching work be considered either lifesaving or worldwide when billions of the world's population have slim to no chance of hearing it and when it impossible for JW growth to keep pace with global population growth? -

I would say accepting products manufactured from donated blood yet refusing to donate blood on pain of being shunned is pretty scandalous.
I'd love to see someone like Paxman interview the Bethel media rep on that one!

I'm referring to my proposed internment of terrorists, would-be terrorists and extremists in the UK.
Ahha - gotcha.
so how do you think the UK government should deal with the Islamist problem?
I don't actually disagree with the principle of internment for those who are highly likely to have extreme views given the insidious nature of the problem. It does go against my natural inclinations of progressive justice (innocent until proven guilty, burden of proof on the accuser etc.) but I also have no real problem with taking proactive and preemptive action against those who given any kind of opportunity would seek to do harm to people here. The rights of people to feel, and indeed BE, safe absolutely trumps any so called rights of those determined to support extreme Islamist agendas.
Having said that I think it is a short term reaction. I think it would increase the feelings of polarisation and persecution amongst many Muslims, especially young men, and foster further radicalisation. I also question where you are going to put all these people, how long for and how it's paid for. The prison service is already at breaking point without putting even more people into it. There is also lots of evidence that prisons are a breeding ground for further radicalisation.
You then have to ask what happens to those locked up. What do you do to prove their criminal intent? How is that handled in law? Thinking of committing a crime is much harder to turn into something that can be prosecuted. Do you seek to change their minds?
You might think of returning immigrants to their original homes but how does that happen in practice? What about those who are British citizens?
How do you handle upset and angry parents, friends and relatives? How do you overcome the negativity and hostility, let alone foster relations such that those radicals are marginalised within the Muslim community.
How do you monitor the mosques?
How do you reverse an ideology whilst coming down like a ton of bricks on those who you don't even know for sure have embraced it?
The only long term solution is for Muslims to come out of the dark ages and throw their religion down the toilet. It ain't going to happen any century soon.
The best we can hope for is that Muslims the world over get pissed off living with the threat of extremists to the point where they sort the problem out themselves. Where are the Saudis and others in the middle east in all of this?
For the UK government they need to be very careful. By all means target those known to be likely extremists. Get those they can out of the country. Shut down schools and mosques where they know the extremists work. But be very careful about going to far. It could easily back fire.

Well, the suspects shouldn't get any pay outs. Some can be released and monitored, maybe, but no pay outs.
Too late fella - it's already happened....
I get the difference between what happened in Ireland with the fundamental Islamist problem, I just question the long term realities of lancing the boil with yet more violence and preemptive "justice". I can't argue with the fact that certainly it would stop terror attacks happening in the short term plus the idea of pushing the problem back to it's geographic source and regaining our peace of mind is certainly attractive, it's just you are dealing with an ideology, a mental conditioning that can only be changed if the bottom up mindset changes. That's where the wider Muslim community comes in but we are looking at decades, if not centuries, before the majority of Muslims globally are close to where the secular population is.

Lock up all the suspects on their 'terror list' and any outspoken sympathisers. Anyone who lives in the UK and calls for terrorist attacks on UK soil should also be rounded up and locked up.
I don't entirely disagree with you however the US did this with Guantanamo Bay with little impact on Islamic terrorism. Worse still was the fact that some known jihadists came out with big payouts for their treatment there.
Internment without charge happened in Northern Ireland as well yet did not stop the terror. What did work was the people on both sides getting fed up with the violent minority and calling them out. So called moderate Muslims need to grab this problem by the balls and weed out the extremists from within and build a secular majority. But as you already rightfully point out they are not going to do this. The number of secular Muslims is tiny thanks to the religion being so backwards.
On a side note, this is a really interesting interview where a former CIA interrogator is clear about the benefit of what happened in Guantanamo.

I have never supported the ban as I think it is symptomatic of a wider problem with the suppression of free speech and progressive values by the Russian government. We all know that the WTS has some nasty teachings but most followers are harmless and now are facing persecution and problems in everyday life due to state sponsored discrimination.
The same is happening with many other minorities and in decrying one injustice you have to look at them all.

What Sadiq Khan actually said was that part and parcel of living in a great global city is being prepared for these things. He wasn't passing it off as something to dismiss or resign ourselves to, rather as a danger residents and visitors need to be cognisant of.
The fact is that until Islamists join the rest of progressive and secular society there will be extremists who look to take advantage of a free and open society to perpetrate this type of crime. I don't ignore it when I travel in London just as I don't ignore risks of other crimes like robbery.
Awareness is not the same as acceptance.

"The purpose of reporting field service time is for encouragement"
by HereIgo ini was told this when i was an aspiring jw, aka unbaptized publisher.
the above explanation didn't make sense to me then and it never did make sense throughout my jw career.
over time, it appeared to me the real purpose of field service time reporting was to gauge one's spirituality and for the ceo *cough* co to make sure the elders were on top of things during his visit..

The purpose of the field ministry and reporting it is whatever it needs to be to justify any one of a long list of cult control mechanisms.

Always thought it was strange the way the WT talks about blood and conscience, and the need for the doctors to respect it. At the same time, very few of the friends understand all of the various blood products that are permitted. They will frequently say no until an HLC member comes along and says, "its ok - the WT says so". Then of course they routinely accept it.
This ^^ * 100. It's a complete and utter nonsense. Conscience means that a Witness should be free to choose their treatment without sanction yet nothing could be further from the truth.
P.S. Lee - did you have a point 1 in the above list?
