Just looking at some of the videos it's clear that that the WTS has really pumped money into the production. They are pretty well made and employ many techniques typical of films to provoke emotions.

HTTPS (SSL security) Now Available

i've setup an ssl certificate so you can now use https to browse the site.

this creates an encrypted connection between your browser and the server which is more secure and prevents urls visited from being shown in router logs, content can't be eavesdropped etc.... there are also some performance benefits but they won't kick in until i make some more changes.. consider it experimental for now but at some point it will likely automatically redirect you to the secure version of a page.. you can try it by adding 's' to the http part of any address or just goto the home page and browse from there (some mixed content means you may not get the fully green https status in your browser just yet though).. let me know if you have any issues using the site..

Home bookstudy ended because of 'independent study' groups? Any interesting stories regarding these types of groups?

someone suggested the other day that the home bookstudy meeting ended because of 'independent study' groups (in ireland) going 'off the reservation' and left the truth (tm).. has anyone heard of this before?.

does anyone have interesting stories of 'independent study' groups resulting in large scale apostasy?.

I think part of the reason was to allow more occupancy of Kingdom Halls. Every congregation would have a group at the hall taking up a night a week.

My 2016 RC Experience

i'm at the water park with my five year old in green bay.

she was so happy to be spared another boring day like she endured at thursday's propaganda feast with her mother.

after breakfast we drove by the convention site.

I see three reasons for the name change

1 - no more district overseers so removing the word from theocratease removes any vestige of historical link

2 - a region can be made as big or small as they like as it has no tie to a specific organisational grouping

3 - change for change sake. Keep that chariot moving...

Finding a thread where the creation v evolution debate is populated with logical and reasonable evidence that presents even mildly compelling arguments to question the view that there is purely a naturalistic explanation for the progression of life on Earth is as rare as rocking horse sh*te.

Instead all I see repeated time and time again is mountains of science greeted with nothing more than the intellectual equivalent of a child sticking their fingers in their ears and shouting "la la la la la, I can't hear you".

I hang my head in shame that I was once on the wrong side of this argument. It's simply f***ing embarrassing to witness.

I'm getting disfellowshipped

hi everyone, a bit of an update here on my continuing disaster of a situation.. (refer to my previous posts for the full story) my mom met with me yesterday for dinner, it was nice.. however, she brought up the fact that because i live with my boyfriend and how everything has gone down, i will be disfellowshipped.. i think the elders basically have enough proof of this.. due to the anonymous tipper (still have no clue who it was, i live in another town 100's of miles away from my old congregation territory), and my mom telling them.

i'm not sure when they will announce it, or if they will contact me prior.. at this point i feel so emotionally dead i don't care- on the other hand, i don't want to be disfellowshipped because i do not want to loose a relationship with my mom.

that is the whole reason i tried fading out.. .

Sorry to hear that you are being disfellowshipped however I agree with oldskool - moving in with a boyfriend within six months of stopping going to meetings and telling your mum is a high risk strategy, long distances accepted.

I think the advice you have had already on trying to keep the contact and build on it is good.

I really wish you the best and hope that your mum sees beyond the rhetoric and is happy to carry on communication.

Then again, I suspect you have and chose to maintain such beliefs.

Which is exactly what I did before I simply could not ignore the weight of evidence to the contrary.

Someone anonymously tipped the elders?

so here an update on my current situation, in a nutshell i've been trying to quietly fade for the past 5 months.. well, my mom somehow found out that i am currently fading and that i live with my boyfriend (for more info on this check my previous posts) i told her yes i live with him and yes i no longer want to be a jw.

anyways, yesterday she met my boyfriend.. awkward.

and after lunch she pulled me aside to tell me that the po came up to her (he was part of my jc when i was reproved) he said to her "someone came to me and said - i cannot say who so they will remain anonymous- but that your daughter is living with someone" my mom confirmed and apparently he told her that i have one week to confess this, and if i don't my parents are obligated to tell them everything.. what kind of nonsense is that?

I can assure you Stephane that your idea, as much as I would like it to work, never will.

In this type of circumstance the ONLY possible route to avoiding being DFed is to immediately chuck out the BF, go home and throw herself on the mercy of the elders. Even that has a poor chance of success given her fade and moving in with a guy. They will most likely see through the façade, DF anyway and look to reinstate based on her subsequent actions.

A lawyers letter may delay or prevent an announcement but if she is not coming to meetings and living with a guy she is already spiritual toast to many of her so called friends.

If she wants to plead mercy with anyone then let that be her mother. Expend the time and energy reasoning with her so that she does not cooperate with the elders ("I really don't know my daughter's situation, why don't you talk to her, why have you not shown her any shepherding attention in six months, who has made this accusation, what proof do they have, why are they not following the scriptural process?) and understands that her daughter just wants to quietly get on with life.
