  does anyone have any links to how the mormons (or ex mormons for that matter) view the changes that the wts has made over recent years, especially the growth of jw.org and characters like caleb & sophia?.

  Interesting how this thread has morphed into a discussion on JW growth. I don't understand how it is not obvious to anyone looking at the WTS's own stats that the growth in Western nations is stagnating, driven by foreign language ministries. How is it not possible to look at the conversation ratios and see the waste of time spent in field service?

  The ineffectiveness of the global preaching work is blatantly manifest but thanks to the propaganda and spin put on figures by the WTS it is simply lost on those mentally in. I do maintain some hope, however, that the WTS constant reference to figures will actually be one of the key factors in the wake up of many who are questioning what they are doing inside the org.

  Sorry to be a party pooper but Private Eye satirises matters and scandals which are common knowledge. I regret to say that I'm not so sure that what we find important is on everyone else's radar as yet.

  I would disagree to an extent. True, the satirical side tends to lampoon events that are common knowledge but there is lots of serious journalism going on underneath it all. PE has championed a number of stories over the years which have taken much longer to be reported on by the mainstream press. This is especially true regarding City scandals.

  They also set up the Paul Foot award, specifically to acknowledge investigative reporters,

  I would hope that the CC can do something with this case to put pressure on the WTS.

  Very true Simon but people on this group and others have picked up in similarities between Mormon and JW use of the internet. I just wondered if there was any evidence of the parallels being seen from the other direction.

  I see your point Joe but the WT did a very good job of overturning the French tax ruling. They might not be adept at lobbying etc. but they can afford very good lawyers and have a track record of spinning legal proceedings out for a long time. Don't forget as well that any ruling that sets some precedence for other religious organisations will attract massive interest from everyone from Scientologists to the Catholic Church. In fact, was there not some joint action or discussions along with other religions that the WTS was involved with a while back?

  I do accept however that the child protection aspect of this particular ruling does cast a different light on things and it may be this factor that is the key that does push the authorities to pursue the case to it's conclusion.

  I would not expect the loss of charitable tax status any time soon. There would be appeals, a legal process etc. etc. The WTS is a master at spinning those things out. Also, look what happened in France - they got all their tax back...

  New WTS end date - 2034?

  so i already made an introductory thread where i said hello and mentioned my feelings toward 2034 being the wts new end date.. we get the year 2034 from matt 24:37 & luke 17:26. the wt commented on the "days of noah" in a qfr article 2010 12/15.

  where its stated: "it is logical, therefore, to conclude that genesis 6:3 expresses gods resolve to end the corrupt system of things on earth.

  jehovah issued a judicial decree to do so in 120 years, though noah was not yet aware of that.

  I've never heard 120 years mentioned from the platform in relation to the last days. I am not saying that the thought has not crossed individuals' minds nor that the perpetuation of thoughts about this would not suit the WTS but I simply reiterate what I said earlier:

  1 - the last time I can see anything in writing about this was 2010

  2 - at the time they were at pains to stress Noah preached maybe only 40-50 years

  3 - no association with the last days was made

  4 - this is not a topic of conversation I have ever come across and I do my fair share of "seeding" of conversations to see what people are prepared to say

  5 - it may escalate as a thought over the coming years as people latch onto something to explain failed expectations but I do not expect any official sanction through RC talks or WT articles

  Right now, as far as I can tell, the only people buzzing about this thought are on boards like this.
