yes, i too have wondered how an assembly that is held in a fully paid for assembly hall, with no food service, could possibly have $10,000 in expenses.

i suppose the bethel speakers have transportation expenses - maybe $1000 or so.

as for rent on the assembly hall, well you have already paid for it once, why pay again?

These are the public records from the Charities Commission web site on the halls in England. You can check cash on hand etc. by looking at the accounts.

The interesting one, as I have noted before, is the Surrey Assembly Hall (Haysbridge). This is the obvious cash cow. I was a little surprised that most of the other halls are showing income/expenses as roughly even, sometimes having cost considerably more in expenses than got in. A little digging in the accounts may explain why this is, for example there are some large somes put down to depreciation as opposed to specific expenses.

It's also interesting that Dudley had the same income two years running.

i stumbled upon this website a few weeks ago due to the jw.org ridiculousness, since then i haven't been able to pull myself away.

the thoughts, feelings, and concerns i have had the past few years aren't just mine.

it's global.

Welcome AllForShow. I, and many others here, can really empathise as we are or have been in a very similar boat. I am still executing a long game after 2 years of reasearch and getting to know TTATT. Don't be in a rush to fill what you think you are losing with something else. Keep researching the alternatives until logic, reason and evidence help you decide what you think are the reasonable options. My belief in the vast majority of WT docitrine crashed down in a very short space of time but I am still working some things out thanks to years of being spoon fed my base attitudes. It can take time so don't be afraid to reasearch what you would have dismissed out of hand a few weeks ago.

One Day Assembly Costs How Much, WTF?

the recent circuit assembly day cost get this... $17,0000 in an assembly hall that they own!

this was announced during the assmbly at the 3/4 mark of days activities.

after he said how much the assembly cost, he then proceeded to say that we have recieved $6,000 in donations up to this point of the day.

How many people were at the CA? What's the per head cost? at the Surrey Assembly hall in the UK, most assemblies are in the 6-700 attendees mark. Costs, as I recall, are IRO £5-6000, around £8-10 per head. The donations are around double the operating costs according to the accounts on the charity commission website last time I checked.

the flood, mammoths, elphants, and food.

my question is since it looks as though mammoths were alive after the flood and we know elephants are then how much food was needed to feed just these four animals for the time they were on the ark.

also was the ark, 500 feet long, big enough to hold the amount of food needed for just these 4 animals.. .

(Off topic: DA is exactly the same as DF. We should not treat them as if they are different when they are not, imo. That is just playing into the Org's word games that it uses to cover up its crimes in the minds of its people and the public.)

I agree that the effect is the same and the whole DA thing is word games. I only raise the difference in this case from the perspective of reality of what could *possibly* happen in the case of a parent sanctioning a BT for a child.

I also agree that nothing will happen to this chap should it turn out that he really is talking about BT.

I don't agree that Witnesses think having a BT is a conscience matter. Refusing blood is still core to Witness mentality. If they were asked to comment publically then they might revert to WT double speak but that is not what they really think. Same as double speak on shunning DF'ed ones.

I say again, it is not 100% clear to me that he is categorically referring to BT. He is not quoted as that. The Mirror, as a tabloid, have sensationalised what he is quoted as saying. Of course, I don't know his mind so he could full well be referring to BT or including BT in general "you do what you have to" type statements. The point is that it could well be a 2+2=5 misapplication by The Mirror.

Don't forget as well that the family have undergone a public and unusual situation. He could equally have been referring to the actions they took and indicating that these were nothing to do with their religious beliefs. Again, the article is not clear on the context of the statement.

Regardless...

You cannot be disfellowshipped for have a BT. You are viewed, if you are unrepentant, as have disassociated yourself by your actions. I have to say I am not 100% sure what the situation is for a parent who allows a child to have a BT but I know that there are cases of tacit approval for indicating that the authorities make the child a ward of court (or local equivilent) thus dissolving the parents of the responsibility.

Of course, one can be disfellowshipped for "brazen conduct" and if one was to keep repeating opposition to the blood teaching then they would likely face a JC.

I suspect in this case, the elders will keep well away from the subject until the fate of the child and publicity has died down. Someone will then have a quiet word to double check the circumstances and put any contentiousness down to "stress". As others have mentioned, the WTS is not keen to have it's policy over blood and children raked up in the national press.

Someone discreetly lift up the carpet please...

In my original post it says a parent can be DFed for allowing a child to have a BT. I meant "cannot".

If a parent was to be DFed after such an incident it would almost certainly be along the lines of "brazen conduct" over a vary vocal and critical attitude about it.

I am 99% sure a parent would not be viewed as DAed

Firstly from how he is quoted it's not clear that he explicitly said he would allow his son to have a transfusion.

Secondly, the Mirror is hardly noted for the varacity of it's reporting.

Thirdly, you can be disfellowshipped for allowing your child to have a transfusion. Nor can you be disfellowshipped for saying you might do something (Although I am sure somewhere someone will have been!)
