I've since come to appreciate my own teen years (early 90's), but I used to wish I had been born 8-10 years earlier. The high school scene depicted in movies of the early 80's seemed so much better than the one I was stuck in. It doesn't matter now, but it did then.
While nothing is exactly like the movies, the "Breakfeast Club" and "Say Anything" were pretty acurate with describing my high school years.

going back to the pre-war rhetoric it seemed to me that even the german and russian intelligence along with the english and american intelligence and previous inspectors all agreed that sadam had left over (and possibly made more) chemical wmd.
proof seemed to be provided about what they *knew* he had at *some point* and it couldn't be accounted for.. it seems obvious now that sadam did, in fact, destroy it long ago.. my question - why didn't he just prove it to the inspectors?
why not avoid all of this if he could?
I agree with you Yeru! Also don't forget the oil-for-food scandal, as this may have been a factor in that many high ranking officials got huge kick backs from Saddam.....

I guess one good thing about it, being an ex-JW, is that you won't have to worry too much about seeing JW's when you go visit the YMCA!
Funny thing is, my brother and brother in law play basketball at the Y but feel it's ok since they're not members. Instead of paying the $285.00 yearly membership, they pay $5.00 and play basketball for an hour. I'm like "what's the differnece?" JW's and their strange logic.

hi,i guess the point i'm trying to make is we have been lied to again. we were always told that to join the y was apostasy. my ? is: how so????? y's r individually funded by the communities they r in & the people who go there, not churches. would u agree??????

I'm very involved with the local YMCA (got Da'd for joining it). As far as the Y's I've been involved with, it's not funded by churches. Instead most funding comes from local businesses, membership dues and differnt donation drives. The Society's hang up with the Y is how it was founded. Waaaay back when, the Y's did have more of a religious theme to them. It was common years ago to find Bible classes being taught there (I'm talking some 60 - 80 years ago). There is still "offical" Christian slogans that are thrown around but you'd have to really look hard to find them. But what's wrong with having a place that promotes "generic" Christian principles? Where's it better to go and excercise, some place that has a Christian theme to it or the local gym which most closely resembles a singles bar? Just as the Watchtower is differnt today then it was just a few years ago, so is the Y. It's pretty much a good place for families to go and excercise. It's a GREAT place for kids to go and enjoy themselves. I enjoy helping kids who come from homes that have problems. They come to the Y from some peace, excercise and looking for someone to talk to. It's a great place.

I think the reason the press are reporting it is simply because it is such an important story:It could spell the end of Rumsfeld and maybe Bush, especially if the abuse was directed from above.
It seriously impacts the already slim chances of a successful handover in Iraq
It affects US foreign affairs and could lead to terrorism both in the USA and abroad
etc.
That is why it is newsworthy.
Maybe that's partialy true but it's not the main reason. It's still the top story because people love hearing and seeing other people get into trouble (whether it's the President or a soldier). Like they say in the news industry "if it bleeds, it leads." The general public can make claims about wanting more upbeating stories...blah..blah..blah..but the truth of the matter is that people are dying to see more Iraqi prisoner about photos and videos. Why do you think reality shows like "COPS" is so popular? Because people love seeing other people get in trouble. When was the last time you saw a show called "SOCIAL WORKERS"? lol. What's the ol' saying "misery loves company". It was the same thing with Clinton and Monica Lewinski. People just loved seeing this powerful man get in trouble.

Here in Chicago it's always saddened me that the biggest enemy of the poor and African-Americans is other African Americans who have power. Jesse Jackson and other black political leaders here rape the black community, use it for their own gain and blame "the man." It sickens me to read about the trillions of dollars that have been spent to help minorities but in reality little of it has actually helped any of these people. Even when newspapers run stories like Jesse getting caught with that young woman, getting her pregnant and then pays her hundreds of thousands of dollars (from "non-profit" companies he runs) to keep quit, nothing is done. There is no public outrage. Very sad.

My question has always been...why not God? There are probably millions of people who really, REALLY want to do what God expects of them but maybe could use a little more "evidence" that God cares about them personally. What harm could possibly come from God showing His face for the first time in 2,000 years and doing a little leg work? Appear before the UN general assembly and give them a stirring speech, give mankind the cure for AIDS or cancer. Or just give us a "thumbs up" that He's still there and cares about us.
I could write a long letter to my kids, telling them what to do and all the wonderful things I did for them and tell them how much I love them. But if I'm not around to directly demonstrate my love, can I really expect them to love me back?

Most JW burban legends I've heard are always "friend of a friend of a friend" but there was a couple in the congregation whom I was good friends with that had demon problems (sounds funny just typing that). I recall her telling me about this one night when she was in bed and this "force" started feeling her up (and down). She went into great detail about it. Actually, my then wife use to get sooo pissed that I was the "go to" elder for this couples problem. To be honest, I was getting, um...a bit worked up because she was extremely good looking, I'm talking model like. This problem went on for quite some time. It all ended when they got rid of some end table they had bought at a garage sale. I guess demons are horny little bastards (no pun intended).
