I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams ... glitter in the dark near Tanhauser Gate. All those ... moments will be lost ... in time, like tears ... in rain. Time ... to die.

Why does everyone hate the US so much?? Maybe it is time that the US gets off their high horse and starts talking to other foreign countries and find out why.
There have always been and always will be countries that HATE the USA. Why? Because they can't stand the thought of people being free. Many world leaders are like the crappy dad that every neighborhood has. They treat their people/family like shi* and hate seeing the father/other leader caring for their family/people. Ok, maybe that's painted with a broad brush but I believe it to be true.
While I don't believe war in the answer in all cases, certain leaders and countries will not understand anything else. Do you honestly believe that the terrorist leaders of the world can be reasoned with? Do you really believe that a person who will strap a bomb to himself, hop onto a bus full of school kids and blow it up can be reasoned with? Do you believe that the leaders who train these people can be sat down and be reasoned with? No, they can't.
Just as Germany and Japan didn't become "responsible" nations until they had the crap kicked out of them, the same is true with North Korea and Iraq. The nuts in those countries need to be taken down hard and the people of those nations need to see how wrong those individuals are. It's just a shame how many will have to suffer for all this.

I don't know about anyone else but for the President of the United States to have repeatedly said at Republican fund raisers and other functions that the 9/11 tragedy was for him like winning the trifecta
Ok, IslandWoman, I'm not a huge Bush fan but I find it hard to believe that the President said that. Please tell me when I can find this quote. It should be easy because you stated that he said this "repeatedly."

Why is it I chuckle when I read a post like this during the day but late at night, in my bed, I'm more of a believer?

I told my 17 year old that, like those before him, it would be his duty and responsibility.
My 12-year old son and I have been watching "Band of Brothers" which basically follows a group of soldiers during WWII (from D-Day to V-E Day). Programs like that one (and others) help us to appreciate the freedom we enjoy today because of the sacrifices that so many made. It seems like that generation of men and women we so unselfish. Can you even imagine being a Ranger storming Omaha beach? Can you imagine being a Marine island hopping in the Pacific against the Japanese? Can you imagine being the parent of one of those young men? The ultimate sacrifice that these people made is beyond words. As a JW it always bothered me that we as a religion didn't thank these men. A few years ago my then wife and I were in France and we went and visited the D-Day landing sites and memorial. Wow, row after row of crosses. Seeing the beach that they stormed, thinking "how the hell did any of them make it out alive? what kept them moving forward?" It amazed me. Not sure what my JW wife thought. I believe she was thinking "what a waste."
While I expect my son to do his duty (if called upon), the thought still creates a pain in my belly. I remember watching "Black Hawk Down" and just being amazed how young all of those soldiers looked! Though still a few years away from being able to join the military, I do have this "fear" that one day he'll be called upon to serve his country in this manner. With all the trouble in the middle east, problems with North Korea and the biggest threat of all - China - a major war is just on the horizon. I just hope that the leaders of our country realize what's in their hands - our country's greatest assets, our young men and women.

A couple of weeks ago a pioneer sister (who's known to be "headstrong" ((gag!) stopped by my office. She knows I'm DA'd and also knew that it was my office. I didn't have the foggest idea why she'd stopped by.

Wow, what a flood of memories coming back, being a "rebellious" JW youth. I'd have The Clash blasting from my stereo for no more then 30 seconds before my father would come in telling me to "turn off that worldy music."

Any lurker who read his long-winded rebuttals in an attempt to defend the Watchtower Society was able to see exactly how asinine adhering to the WTS doctrine actually is.
Amen to that!

Shunning (again!)
by link inelswhere recently started a thread about shunning and i noted that at least ninety per cent of the posters to the thread were from the u.s.of a. and canada and they had had some bad experiences with the problem.. why should this be significant ?.
well it seems to me that the shunning problem in america is far worse than here in the u.k. i know of several persons who have been dissed but i am not aware that shunning is a serious issue for them.
can anyone tell me if shunning causes less of a problem here in the u.k. than it does other places in the world, and if so why?.

Americans are the biggest sheep on the planet- though few would admit it people from north america are more easily duped than any other country in general
I agree. I don't think we're stupid, just too trusting. We trust politicians and get screwed, we trust other countries and get screwed...etc.
