Do any of you folks happen to know Terrence or Keith Jones? I believe they were/are from the Hague area.

What a jerk...
by joannadandy inok so it always bothered me what a jerk jacob was.
he was a deceptive little cheater, and yet he was favored over his brother?
he used a blatant trick to confuse his obviously blind old father...how is he a biblical hero?.

Joanna,
What I get from the story of Jacob is that even a man as mean and sneeky as he was can change and find favor with God. The way he treated his brother and the relationship with his father-in-law showed that Jacob was far from perfect. BUT God saw something in him and later Jacob became a better man. If you look at the account where his name is changed to Israel, there is more to the story. Jacob became a better man. He went and made peace with his brother and also repaired the relationship with his father-in-law. I guess what I take from this account is that people can change and those who are supposedly "good" can even do better.

So true Spice. When I was the Service Overseer (Ug!) I had to "round up" those who were "irregular." Then all of a sudden, WHAM! they had time for the several months that they were missing. LOL! Almost all turn in something just to get the Service Overseer off of their back.

I must have missed the sermon Jesus gave where he cites percentages. I know what you mean though, all CO's are trained the same way, BRING UP THE BOTTOM LINE. Jeez, CO's sound more like a company's CFO.

May I toot my own horn? I received a "strange" complement today from one of the ladies at work. I don't recall exactly what she said but it was something to the effect that women at work find it appealing seeing a man who has a white collar job (I work as an engineering manager) yet can also with their hands (hey, get your mind out of the gutter, THAT'S NOT WHAT SHE MEANT). For example, when there is a problem in the machine shop I'll go there, roll up my sleeves, tuck in my tie and work with the machinists. I guess seeing a dork in dirty dress clothes has it's appeal. Hmph! I never had a clue. Does working out everyday and coaching football count as being "masculine"?

My Volvo S40 has been a great car. 75,000 miles and not even a small problem. I'm planning to trade it in soon for another Volvo, the S60. Before that I car a Grand Prix (GM) which was ok, but definately not put together as well as many European cars. And before that I had a Dodge Intrepid, which was a piece of junk.

The Demon of Saskatchewan
by RunningMan inlast week, i came across an unusual tidbit of jw folklore that i had all but forgotten.
after a brief discussion of provincial politics with my mother, she made the comment (regarding our provincial premier) that every time a government is elected, satan appoints a demon to oversee and direct it.. now, i'm not sure if this is unique to jws, but the idea is based on the following scripture:.
"but the prince of the kingdom of persia was withstanding me for twenty-one days; then behold, michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for i had been left there with the kings of persia.

Do Jws help disfellowshipped ones or apostates?
by haujobbz in.
do you think that, if say you fell over and and seriously injured yourself in the street, would a jw you knew passing by help you knowing that you were disfellowshipped or so called apostate.
maybe even come to see you at home if you were unwell or depressed,i mean how many witnesses have assisted or helped you when you needed it mostly, you see i thought they were supposed to encourage you to become so called spiritually stronger.but saying that when you were active as a jw do you think you were helped in times of distress or illness by your fellow jw,for instance i know a woman who's still a witness but hasnt been to meetings for say a year and thats because she has severe athritis and guess what only 1 j-dub has wrote to her so to her it seems like if your not a regular at meeting you may as well be classed as disfellowshipped.

I believe that I've related this story before but it's one that illustrates the "conditional" love JWs have for people. A couple years ago I broke my leg and had a cast from the tip of my toe to my hip. This happened about 8 months after my Da'ing was anounced. It just so happens that one day I was at the store doing some shopping. Here I am trying to carry several bags of food while at the same time manage my crutches. Along come a Witness couple that I had known for years. As a matter of fact, he was probably my best friend while I was a JW. They saw me struggling, dropping items here and there. What did they do? They simply looked the other way and kept walking. They did exactly what the Society wants them to do. Even through my thick skin it hurt a little. BUT I suddenly heard someone behind me. "Mike, why didn't you let someone know that you needed help!" It was a person whom I had recently met at the local YMCA. She helped me out and at the time culdn't even recall her last name. So I went from being hurt to being elated within a moment. The mental chains that JWs live with is pitiful.
