Only thing is Mike, your average Catholic is as adamant as your average JW about which religion is true and which one is false or with strictly following every little decision their religious leader(s) make.
I'm not a fan of Catholicism but adhering to doctrinal law (and changes) is much more inportant to JWs then to Catholics.

Fantasy theories
by ninjaturtle inevolutionists like to point out that there was 4 billion years for evolution to play with.. but consider http://uk.news.yahoo.com/010222/80/b5mxs.html.
it looks like 90% of natural selection was wiped out and the random mutations had to start working with a much smaller base only 250 million years ago.

EX-JW Activism, anything new?
by Mindchild inive seen posts here and there in the past months on this board that talk about ex-dub activism but i hate to admit this but most of the activities mentioned are rather ineffective in really doing anything but making us ex-dubs feel collectively better.. we have discussed protesting at conventions, making a protest walk, peeing on c.t.
russells grave, playing some games at local kingdom halls, and playing mind games with dubs online.
i really dont have anything against these forms of activism but i dont think they accomplish much.. what i therefore dare suggest and beg for your comments are new ideas of how we can redirect our anger more effectively and support actions and causes that sting the borg like hell and also help others out the door.. i have nothing but praise for the actions of people who take a stand like silent lambs, or others who have setup informative ex-dub websites and i think one good thing we could do is support these efforts by doing some fund raising.. i also would love to stick something right up the ass of the gb but im trying to think of just how to do it.

One thing that always "stirred things up" at the local Kingdom Hall was when some "apostate" ran an ad in the local paper. Dubs where always whispering "who do you think ran the ad? Have you met anyone in the territory that mentioned the ad? etc."
I always wonder how effective it would be to place an ad that someone suggested to me."Jehovah's Witnesses-DANGER AT YOUR DOOR! (800) Why-1914"
Quite simple.

Arab Regimes, Not Israel, Are Guilty of Racism
by ThiChi inafter reading some very interesting claims on the last israel/us funding issue, janh started a side point on israels racism and pointed to egypt as an example to follow.
i would like to share this viewpoint: .
arab regimes, not israel, are guilty of racism .

JanH, I agree.
But one point. I'd rather an Arab living in Israel then then an Arab living in any of the nations surrounding Israel.

Do you find yorself still helping others??
by lydia inwhen we were "in" we were often told how and when to help out "brothers and sisters".
now that many of us are "out" - do you find that you are still eager to help others in need??.
or are you burnt out due to the amount of time being "forced" helping others before?.

I find that I help people more then before leaving the JWs. This is because I no longer have this "us" against "them" feeling. Through the local YMCA and church my kids and I have done what I consider a lot of good for the community. Not in preaching to people, like we did as JWs going door to door and claim that this was the best thing for people, but instead helping people with their immediate needs. Isn't this also what Jesus did? Wasn't he moved to feed and heal people? When was the last time you saw the WT Society do that?
Don't get me wrong, I'm no mother tareesa, but I do go out of my way more now to help people then I ever did before. -

Extortion works wonders, doesn’t it? The mob can learn a thing or two from the Society’s henchmen.

Why God cannot have existed forever.
by sleepy inwhy god cannot have existed forever.. this is something a friend of mine brought up a number of years ago.at the time i just thought that to understand how a god existed forever was just beyond our little brains.. well now after reading a lot more physics books i think its evidence a god couldn't have existed forever and therefore would had a begining (if there was a god).. basically if god had lived from infinity in the past we wouldn't have been created yet as there would always be forever untill we were created.. do you get that?.
at any point in time we could take, if time went back forever then you could never get to that point in time.
you would always have infinity infront of you.. sorry if this doesn't make much sense as it is not easy to describe.

What is really fascinating is the fact that the way we understand time and the universe is fairly new. Up until Einstein, Newtonian physics explained everything. Physicists up until the late 1800’s didn’t see anything “new” on the horizon. They felt that everything about the universe could be explained with what they had already discovered and written about. Then, WHAM, Einstein and others turn things upsidedown.
Quantum physics, particle and wave physics, etc…have radically changed how we view the universe. And now with this “cosmic foam” and parallel universe theories, wow, things are changing quick.
I guess my point is, don’t be so sure that we’ve even scratched the surface on how the universe works. -

One thing I have always wondered about is, could someone successfully sue the local elders who served on his or her judicial committee for breach of confidentiality? I remember as an elder, it was emphasized over and over again NOT to discuss any case with those who weren’t on the committee, this even included other elders on the local body.
Now, all of us know that the Society is notified by the local judicial committee when an individual is df’d. On this form many details are noted that this certain individual “confesses” to the judicial committee. When serving on a JC, I don’t ever recall telling the person before us that the Society will be this form containing the details of this particular case.
Is this a breach of ecclesiastical privilege? I wonder how this would hold up in a civil case? Has it ever been tried?
