Prayers ,are they answered ? or is it just self delusion ?
by smiddy3 inafter 33 years as a jw and leaving 25 years ago i think prayer can be summed up with the jews praying at the wailing wall.. all they are doing is talking to a brick wall ,and getting no feed back.
and they expect an answer to their prayers ?!.
christians /other beliefs might find that funny but they are no better off.. prayer is always a one way street you talk either vocally or mentally to god however you never get the same back .. if god " so loved the world that he doesnt want any to be destroyed but have everlasting life " then whats the problem with him audibly answering his servants prayers ?

That site was quite valuable as a teaching aid for those involved in the ARC. The site was used as an example of how supporters and defenders of the Watchtower misunderstand what the JWs actually believe and teach, and often resort to fallacies to defend their faith.
The following is an example of the 'straw man' fallacy often found in typical JW QandA or FAQ. Note the following question and the subject (i.e. JWs) of the question. Note the first paragraph introduces the subject (i.e. JWs) and the allegations made. Note the second paragraph engages in a 'straw man' fallacy by giving an answer that addresses "the Watchtower Society" and not the subject (i.e. JWs).
Have Jehovah’s Witnesses Ever Claimed to be INSPIRED Prophets?
The accusation that Jehovah’s Witnesses have claimed to be inspired prophets or have tried to foretell the future is absolutely false.
The flat-out truth is that the Watchtower Society has NEVER claimed to be inspired, infallible, or to be foretelling the future as Prophets. -

Australia: Caught in Web of Evil (murder of Philip Quayle)
by darkspilver in"caught in web of evil" is the headline spashed over the front page of today's copy of the cairns post newspaper (thursday, september 7, 2017) in queensland, australia.
the online version appears to be the same, apart from the headlineunlikely backgrounds of pair revealed after being sentenced for their part in cairns murder.
the cairns post / herald sun, wednesday, september 6, 2017. she was a top student as a child, he finished as school dux and was studying medicine at university.. how samantha french and alexander hansen became caught up in one of the most chilling recent murders in cairns defies belief.. but yesterday they faced court, charged with their parts in helping jake livingstone cover his tracks after he beat chef philip quayle to death in a cruel, random attack on spence st.. the cairns district court heard how, in the hours after they watched 21-year-old livingstone attack the 27-year-old hospitality worker in february 2015, the trio drove around the city, dumping and burning clothes in white rock, retrieving evidence from a cbd bin and disposing of it in mangroves near the cairns airport.. later that night the horror of what unfolded became too much for french.

Are JWs the most corporate religion?
by cookiemaster ini find it pretty shocking how corporate the jw religion is.
i never saw it this way when i was in but now that i look at it from a different perspective, it seems quite clear.
much of the terminology used by jws is corporate inspired.

The ARC found that in Australia there was approx. one Watchtower controlled corporation / legal entity / charity per every 90 JWs. Over 700 in total.

Today's Text - Justifying The Increase Of Annointed Ones!
by Divergent inthursday, august 31. jehovah knows those who belong to him.—2 tim.
2:19.. in recent years, we have seen an increase in the number of those partaking at the memorial of christ’s death.
that trend contrasts with the decrease in the number of partakers that we saw for many decades.

"Some [Jehovah's Witnesses] have mental or emotional problems that lead them to believe that they will rule with Christ in heaven."
I can think of seven JWs that fit this description.

Just A Thought Regarding The Bunker Video
by pale.emperor inas ridiculous as the bunker video was, a few things popped into my consciousness as i was riding the train today.
firstly, why did they go to all the expense and effort to not only create a bunker, but to furnish it like a living room complete with coffee table, armchair, shelves etc?
i mean, a bunker should be a bunker... boxes of tinned food, tools, medical supplies, emergency gear etc.

Bunker mentality - an attitude of (excessive) defensiveness resulting from the perception of being under attack. - Oxford Dictionary
Mentally diseased - an attitude of (well balanced) acceptance resulting from the understanding that Jehovah's Witnesses have developed the perception of being under attack.

Interesting point in the letter, almost lost in the sentence structure (see below red arrow) is that Watchtower Australia are deleting their entire email history, and the email history of all elders. This will take place on August 28, 2017. The elders will be notified of this by a letter dated October 8, 2017.
In effect all elders are being told to delete their unwanted emails 5 weeks after Watchtower has actually deleted them.

New book on early Christianity
by careful ini'm not quite sure that this post fits under jws/wts since they do not keep up with real biblical scholarship, but i don't know where else to post it.. thomas a. robinson (university of lethbridge) has just published a book through oxford university press on the earliest christians, entitled who were the first christians?
: dismantling the urban thesis.
for some years the idea has dominated scholarship that christianity grew strongly at first in ancient cities like rome, alexandria, and corinth; the notion has been largely influenced by wayne meeks' (of yale) thinking in his book the first urban christians (1986).. i once saw a member here cite meeks' idea of how many christians existed in the roman empire.

I look forward to the Watchtower's summary:
"One 21st century scholar explained the amount of Christians in ancient Rome supports the Scripitural teaching of a 'little flock' limited to 144,000 members overlapping all generations." - The Watchtower, October-December issue 2114.
