LOL. I used to come in late, walk straight back to the bulletin board to see if I had a talk that night. If I did, I'd sit down and make it up on the back of a napkin or what ever was available. You only have to talk for 5 minutes on a simple topic. These people are brain dead and trained to listen to whatever drivel comes from the platform. They just smile away about what a fine young WT you are. If your playing the game, it's not that hard. I personally got tired of it and took my WT sales training to greener pastures. good luck with that!

Conventions & "Apostates"
by patio34 injust throwin' this on the table:.
who are those people outside of the conventions every year with signs?
we always called them apostates, but who knew?

Since I was as far in as I was; and I owe my deliverance to unknown sign holders.... Yes, I want to know if there is any organization I can sign up with. I will hold a sign to return the favor I was given so many years ago. Maybe I just need to go down to the Tacoma Dome!

I still remember well, circa 1974. I was still in high school, full time pioneer and gave a talk at the Puyallup district assembly. It was the first time I noticed those folks with the signs and bull horns. I really wanted to hear what they had to say, but of course the attendents were forcibly pushing the brethren away. We were told that if we "looked like we were listening it would encourage them". So I went up to the top of stadium, stood on the inside edge so no "apostate" could possibly see me. Two "brothers" forcibly removed me from the area. It was quite apparent that I was not going to be allowed to listen to any subversive information. That was the time that really began to look at what was happening within the org.

Welcome to the world of cults. They will turn your family on you. You felt safe? Don't feel that way again in dealing with these people. And your family are "those people" at this time. You aren't getting your letter back. It is written in stone at headquarters now. You will be left alone when you decide that it is a cult and they have no power over you. Your help can only come from within you.

Power. Yes, power is the ultimate answer to the question posed, Nikita. Thanks for a very poignant question, as I believe it is a question on the minds of many on this board. I was in for 18 years and out for 26 but I still have my life controlled to a certain degree, to this day. A cult that controls family members can do much damage.

Uncle Onion
Thanks for the thread. This has the most interesting and relevant info I've seen on here. I've got a lot of research to do myself. I grew up selling the Evolution book (circa 1967). After I got through 9th grade biology I began to see the light; that the book was a crock. I have maintained a strong interest in the field. Thanks again for the info and links. -

What Was THE Straw That Broke Your "Camel'...
by Francois inthere are lots of outrageous things that have happened to each of us in our longer or shorter association with the jay-dubs.
but it's amazing sometimes what teeny things have been the final straw.. being raised as a jw, i swallowed most stuff whole my entire life.
then, as a teen began to question some things, but waited patiently for jehovah to straightened things out.

Francoise, how long were you in for? I distinctly remember some rules very close to your shirt ones. In order to maintain your "Privileges " you must:
Brothers must get their hair cut every 3 weeks.
Sisters may not allow their skirts to pull past their knee.
Brothers must not allow their sideburns past the middle of the ear.
Brothers hair line should not touch the collar.
These rules were read to us word for word from the platform!
In retrospect it all cracks me up but on the other hand it's amazing how much it still influences my life in a bad way. -

This thread is bringing back some lurking memories. I remarried about 2 years ago. My wife was curious about the JW philosophy. I took her to a couple of meetings. She got to see shunning at its finest! That was when I discovered the change on blood. I also found out about the outright lies being told in regards to Bulgaria, etc. I originally left because of beards. I'm staying away because of the unbelievable organizational about faces. New light my ass!

Same straw. I too went through this incredible saga. I was a full time pioneer on my way to Bethel when I decided I would look better with a beard. They told me the scriptural reason for not allowing them is because beards were a fad and a sign of rebellion (like those damn hippies!). Anyway, I told my parents they could shave my carcass after Armageddon and went on to other things...just me and my beard!
