The Problems of Child Abuse
by Coded Logic ini think it's absolutely disgusting how the organisation has treated childhood victims of pedophilia and rape.
i think their "standards" of requiring two witnesses for belief is absurd.
i think how they try and quietly brush things under the rug in the back rooms of kingdom halls is completely despicable.

This was NOT consent:
You are right, it is not consent. There was no rape though. It should be properly labeled sexual misconduct or abuse or assault.

has now fully endorsed someone who dated and raped 15 year old girls
In all fairness, there are no allegations of rape against him from any 15 year old. Only one of the accusers claims it went beyond kissing to a point where he "guided her hand to touch him over his underwear", but upon complaining he took her home. She was 14 when the alleged incident took place. That would be a felony if true; however, there are legitimate questions regarding some of her claims. The other accusers claim he pursued them romantically while young (16-22 years of age), with no sexual encounters.
Also worth noting that the age of consent in Alabama is 16

284000 baptized in 2017
by jw-verite inseen in the 03/2018 watchtower study :.
"during the 2017 service year, more than 284,000 “rightly disposed” individuals symbolized their dedication to jehovah by water baptism.".

No surprise if there's a bit of a spike this year in baptism/publisher numbers with all the political turmoil. The constant narrative in the news feeds right into JW's fears.

Please explain the Watchtower's "Ransom" for me
by Doug Mason inaccording to the watchtower:.
who received the ransom payment?.
why did the ransomer need to be paid?.

I'll take a stab at it. Here's how I understood JW Ransom nonsense:
Who received the Ransom payment?
Jehovah
Why did the Ransomer need to be paid?
Jehovah's perfect sense of justice required that only perfect blood can make up for Adam's sin.
Who was Jesus sacrificed to?
I guess Jehovah
Who was being held captive and by whom?
We humans were held captive by sin and thus death
Whom did the Ransomer release?
Released us from the slavery to sin

A Little Direction Please
by Brian J ini'm an active elder, cobe, just got home from the meeting where i handled the treasures part and concluded by announcing a friend of mine has been d/f,.....blah blah blah...and over the last year have woken up.
i simply cannot spill my guts to my wife and children as it would be family suicide.
i have zero desire to bash, spread my feelings, or become an "apostate".

Welcome BrianJ. I was in a similar situation not long ago. You can find my first post HERE I was fortunate enough to eventually help my wife free herself from the religion, though it took much pain, patience, tears and sleepless nights. I assure you it's been completely and totally worth it.
My advice to you would be similar to what's been given already. Do NOT push her hard to understand your point of view. Instead of telling her directly your reasons why Watchtower is wrong in such and such point, tell her that you have certain questions that are nagging at you and ask her to help you research those issues. That's how I did it.
Keep it simple at first. I'd tell my wife for instance that I just find it hard to believe that Jehovah would kill our nice neighbors because they didn't read our publications; that I'm struggling to understand how we can say that only JWs will survive Jehovah's judgement and then set it as a subject for our family worship.
Another time I'd tell her that I don't understand how we can apply such an important chronological significance to Daniel chapter 4 when in reality it seems to be a very simple prediction regarding the Babylonian king. Then we'd study the subject together. During most of our convs, I'd let her do most of the talking while I listened and just continued to bring up more questions.
She eventually realized that I was starting to lose faith and that's when things became a bit more difficult since at that point her instinct was to put up a wall. You've got to work hard to prevent that wall from going all the way up. So go easy on her. When you see the pressure building up, back off. Continue to shower her with affection and love. Show her that you've only become a better husband. Cry with her. Show her that you are not bitter and resentful against the brothers of the org, but rather you're incredibly hurt and confused to be realizing that some things that you thought to be true in reality make no sense.

Why the NFL Protest Is a Massive and Insulting Failure
by freemindfade ini think everyone has the freedom to protest, they also have freedom of speech, these are two fundamental things that make america amazing.
but thinking rationally about what is going on with the nfl, therefore, i have an unfavorable opinion of the league, and the players, not their right to free speech, but their motive and execution of it.
constitutional freedom to protest ends at the workplace door too.

So really this whole “cause” is completely nebulous and lost. That doesn’t lend to it making a difference or working in this realm.
Exactly. Especially lost is the supposed cause "against oppression" when the originator of the movement wears a shirt depicting the Cuban dictator in a positive light.

Just A Thought Regarding The Bunker Video
by pale.emperor inas ridiculous as the bunker video was, a few things popped into my consciousness as i was riding the train today.
firstly, why did they go to all the expense and effort to not only create a bunker, but to furnish it like a living room complete with coffee table, armchair, shelves etc?
i mean, a bunker should be a bunker... boxes of tinned food, tools, medical supplies, emergency gear etc.

This story is just beyond ridiculous. Pandering to the extreme left has become the norm @ ESPN and other media outlets.
