Unofficial Year Texts
by sir82 injust got done watching the november broadcast.
for the umpteenth time this year, the message was clear: "shun your adult children, no matter how painful it is for you".. which got me thinking, the "real" message that the watchtower wants to impart to its adherents seems to be varying year over year.
if they were honest, their "year texts" would reflect that.. here is my compendium of what the true" year texts have been of late:.

so thier is no changing anyone here's mind
A Believer, almost all of us were JWs, so we are all well aware of their doctrine, in fact, probably more so than many of the current rank and file JWs. At some point in each of our lives, we were able to take a step back, analyze the facts about the religion and determine that the evidence against it outweighs the evidence for it.
If you haven't already visited JWFACTS.com, I invite you to at least analyze this one article, that briefly explains why it is NOT "the truth".

That is not the official teaching of the WT any longer. Their current and official teaching is that the second group, those born AFTER 1914, will be the ones around when the great tribulation arrives. You my friend, are defending "old light".Wizzstick Can't you remember events from 3-4 years old? If thier were some that age in 1914 they would remember it and be 103 today. Google the oldest people living today and you will many older than that. And more that don't have thier birth date on the internet for all to see.

Interperatation of Revelation 13 due for an update?
by pale.emperor inregarding the watchtower interpretation of revelation 13 https://www.jw.org/en/publications/magazines/g201105/seventh-world-power-bible-history/ - identifying the usa and britain as part of the legs of iron from daniels vision... i think they're gonna have to update this one in the next decade.. trump seems to be the last person who'd work closely with a female prime minister for one, secondly, us brits aint so powerful as we once was.
trump appears to be pretty ok with dealing with russia and for all we know could become an ally with them.. your thoughts?.
now that i read the watchtower interpretation of revelation without my jw spectacles on, it's laughable that they come to these conclusions..

A believer, you wrote "I have been for the last couple weeks been studying religion". Does that mean you've been studying with JWs for only a few weeks? or that you have been, as a JW, studying religion in general for a number of weeks?

I Think I have Found a Way to Litigate
by Simon Templar ini have been thinking about how the wtb&t society bullies all of its members into submission with the threats they use (by practice), i.e.
“if you do this we will df you and you will be shunned”.
“if you da yourself, we will make an announcement and your friends, relatives and family will abandon you”, etc.

Wasn't the case Paul v. Watchtower Bible and Tract held in the late 80s basically arguing similar points as the OP?

Fossilized foot prints, how do they explain it away?
by Crazyguy inso there have been many sets of fossilized human footprints found in africa, italy, europe, britain and new mexico.
these foot prints are thought to be anywhere from 20,000 to 2 million years old.
so what do christians and jws do to try to explain these away.

Well how old the earth maybe according to them isn't really what this thread was about. It seems to me that scientists don't really ever think that a foot print of a humanoid in rock is ever just 6000 year old or newer, they all seem to believe these foot prints are very old and unless the jws pull the Satan did it argument they have nothing
They'll say that the dating techniques that scientists use are unreliable and mistaken.

They do mention that the earth is billions of years old now. Here's a quick one I found at jw.org faq:
Age of the earth. Some creationists teach that the earth is just a few thousand years old. However, according to the Bible, the earth and the universe existed before the six days of creation. (Genesis 1:1) For that reason, Jehovah’s Witnesses have no objection to credible scientific research that indicates the earth may be billions of years old.
But Master_Bob is right, they do believe the Earth was there BEFORE the creative days began, which of course makes no sense. Here's a quote from the Insight book under "Creation":
Genesis 1:1, 2 relates to a time before the six “days” outlined above. When these “days” commenced, the sun, moon, and stars were already in existence, their creation being referred to at Genesis 1:1. However, prior to these six “days” of creative activity “the earth proved to be formless and waste and there was darkness upon the surface of the watery deep.” (Ge 1:2) Apparently, a swaddling band of cloud layers still enveloped the earth, preventing light from reaching its surface.
