weird: passing around literature fragments in prison
by Magnum ini dont have any specific references, but over the years i remember reading in the mags and hearing in talks stories of imprisoned jws who would somehow get a piece of a page of a jw magazine or an article or something like that and pass it around and get spiritually nourished by it as if it almost had a magical or supernatural nature.
does anybody else remember such?.
i always thought it just didnt make sense.

Question about dinosaurs, prehistoric creatures, and the eventual appearance of humans.
by pronomono inso i was watching shark week a little while ago and i got to the episode on prehistoric sharks.
they, of course, discussed megalodon, but they also talked about other sharks that were vicious, precise hunters.
then i started thinking about other prehistoric creatures..... t-rex, raptors, etc...... all vicious animals.

DD, thank you for your totally "logical" and succinct explanation. For quite some time I was leaning towards the evolutionary explanations, but now I see how terribly wrong I was. Again...thanks!

Today's "gay-bashing" and other embarrassing content public talk!
by stuckinarut2 inoh wow..... the public talk today is certainly embarrassing for witnesses!.
started (completely left field too...seemed to come out of nowhere) with condemning homosexuality, and anyone who even tolerates it.
if you like tv shows or movies with gay characters, you are "just as bad" (eg modern family tv show).

Oh really? it would never occur to me to go and have sex with another guy in order to "Try to humiliate him". What nonsense. The lengths that people go to, in order to defend the bible.
How about just admitting that the bible is an idiotic book that is clearly anti-gay, simply because it was written by an ancient middle eastern society who was clearly homophobic, just as it is today? Isn't that much more intellectually honest than to come up with creative interpretations of something that is pretty clear to everybody?
redvip2000, quoted below is a snippet explaining why male rape was utilized in ancient times. My comment was not necessarily to "defend the Bible" per se, but to point out that things were different thousands of years ago, and something that would have been totally understood by people who lived in Bible times is now being misunderstood and twisted in order to justify prejudice against a particular group...i.e. God hates homosexuals and destroyed two cities because of homosexuality, which is patently false.
http://lakeweedatarrowhead.net/4behavio.htm
One example of male-on-male rape is what conquering armies inflicted on the conquered, the aim of which was to humiliate to the extreme, reducing the conquered male to the role of a lowly passive woman, who was considered little better than a slave. Another example is what individual men or groups of men or gangs did when they wanted to hurt and humiliate men they didn’t like. Clearly this practice was not driven by sexual desire, but by brutality and hatred. Many scholars have concluded that this violence and humiliation, male-on-male gang rape, is what the men of Sodom attempted to do to the 2 strangers (angels) in the Sodom and Gomorrah story in Genesis 19 . In other words, the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah was the attempted male-on-male gang rape or extreme lack of hospitality [1], not homosexuality.

The whole "homosexuality is evil" thing is absolutely absurd, and using Sodom and Gomorrah to prove it is even worse. If you look at the historical context of the actions of the men in those cities, you realize that they were NOT homosexuals and their intent was NOT sexual gratification, but rather an act to exert power over the new guys in town by humiliating them and causing them to submit to the men of the city.
If those men were homosexuals, why would Lot even bother to offer his virgin daughters (which, in and of itself, is a totally disgusting act by a supposed "man of God.) Also, since there were children and women there, how could the entire city be filled with homosexuals?
Likewise, the scriptures that refer to men lying with men, as seen in a historical context, refer to heterosexual men engaging in same-sex relations with temple prostitutes while engaging in pagan worship. For that matter, even today in the Middle East, pederasty is engaged in and is accepted. Since rules are so strict concerning male/female relationships, men often utilize young boys to fulfill their sexual urges before marriage.
Homosexuality is a normal thing and is seen throughout the entire animal kingdom, as well as in humans. People do not "choose" to be gay any more than they "choose" to be straight.

Awww...the poor things aren't getting enough in "donations" for their "free" literature, so they're going to have to hit you up to donate every time you access their "wondrous" website, where you can find so much "spiritual food" from "Jehovah."
After all, they ARE a publishing business, aren't they? And money means a LOT to them.

OMG...I missed the whole SPARLOCK craze....
by Pyramid Scheme ini hadn't been on the board to visit much last year, so i have been going back and poking around through the older threads since i started to post here.
i was on jwfacts.com, and noticed paul had posted a brief article about the jw video and the evil sparlock the warrior wizard.
we have no children, and i never got those videos anyway (even when i was still an elder), so when i went back and read all of the old threads, i was crying laughing.

It was really funny to read comments from JWs about the Sparlock video before it was officially released to them. One of them was blathering on about how it was "obviously" an apostate ploy..."just look at the mother's eyes...they look demonized"...and for some strange reason, he suddenly disappeared when that "demonized" mother was shown to be created by none other than his beloved WTS.

A video of what they did? But, but, don't JWs claim that they always perform their charitable works in secret and don't "blow their trumpets" as those false religions of the world do? I am SO perplexed...

Is this one more way for the WTS to save money? If they get JWs to buy Ipads, will they then charge them to download the latest publications (which will no longer exist in print format for the JWs, but only the cut down version for the public) so that they can cut costs? This seems like a rather odd thing to urge JWs (especially elderly ones who would probably use it for nothing other than JW activities) to do.

Watch Tower Web Site Has No Commenting Feature, Comments Unwelcome,
by frankiespeakin inwell it comes as no surprise that the "official" watch tower web site has no place to leave a comment you can only leave your address if your interested.. can you imagine if they did have a place where you can post comments what would happen?.
i'm sure the lack luster of the wt web site is due to the fact that a bunch of old governing body member must go over it with a fine toothed comb and with all thier other business to carry out as corporation executives it is just to time consuming and lets face it these old guys just don't have what it takes to bring this organization thru the 21st century, they are too lost in thier delusion, they are fighting thier own shadow, the enemy is everyone that disagrees with them and they are so steeped in denial they don't want to hear any comment that doesn't agree with them.
they only want confirmation biased statements to read, all else must be resisted and faught against.. internet presents is very important to the wt or it should be as door to door sales will no longer pay the bills, who wants a trashy magazine when you can down load info cheaply and quickly off the net.. these delusional old guys running the wt will be the reason they go belly up.

Well, you know how it is...the good JWs who are supposed to visit that site exclusively might be stumbled if "apostates" were allowed to leave comments. They can't have that, can they?
