  The Wisdom of Disfellowshipping

  please forgive me if someone else has posted these thoughts.

  i have not seen them elsewhere.. why did the jw's disfellowship bill bowen et al?.

  given the avalanche of bad publicity this would seem a stupid move.. but it wasn't because the jw's aren't concerned about bad publicity from worldlings.

  Why did the JW's disfellowship Bill Bowen et al?
  Why now?
  Given the avalanche of bad publicity this would seem a stupid move.
  But it wasn't because the JW's aren't concerned about bad publicity from worldlings. They care about keeping the flock in line. It was a brillant move.

  By disfellowhipping these fine people they have effectively silenced the Dateline program. If Brother or Sister Rankandfile comes up to brother Elder and expresses concern about what he or she sees on Dateline than Brother Elder can tell them that since Bowen and the others are disfellowshipped then the very act of watching them on TV becomes a disfellowshipping offense for the viewer.

  Voila, end of discussion, end of dissent, rule by fear!

  The website goes on to say:

  You will adopt the attitude of your bethel guide and the bethel workers you see on your tours and you will take that attitude back home to your local congregation.

  If this is the case than there should be a considerable amount of "BA" making it's way back to the local congregation!

  Actually when I was a teenager, I found that visiting Bethel was the cure for wanting to serve there.

  do anybody else believe that the messiah will return in our life time?

  cause we all know that "peace & safety" is the last sign.. and i already mention that it's on a very low scale, it's come but has'nt passed yet(when billions believe everything is safe)... .

  i believe it will come in my life time, i'm only 20 years old and i damn sure aint going to die... luke- 21-36 < is the way that you can survive up to the day of christ day....what y'all think?

  LOL. That's about 2 miles from where I work and I've seen them too!
  I love it!

  BTW, e-mail me. Maybe we know each other.

  BlueSapphire, I spent my JW days in San Diego, so I don't know anyone in the Inland Empire. BTW I work in the next building east of the Mira Loma Assembly Hall. The restaurant I had breakfast in is called Zeke's. I've noticed dubs in there having breakfast as well as doing the "wooden Indian Routine" outside.

Fifty feet away was a busy entrance to a Ralph's Supermarket, but they chose to stand in front of empty store fronts. They were busy in conversation -- with each other. You see no one walked by where they were. Do you suppose they stood there for a reason? I watched them from inside a nearby restaurant where I had breakfast with some friends. In the hour I was there I don't think they talked to anyone but each other. Except for the fact that they held WT magazines (well two of them did) you would have had no way of knowing what they were doing. Not a very efficient way to spread the warning about the impending doom of this wicked system of things. Not a very efficient way of sharing the message of salvation with the hapless worldlings who hurried in and out of Ralph's. Not a very efficient way to vindicate Jehovah's name.

  Maybe this religion is just a social thing...

  I told my dad this morning.........

  he asked if i was going to the circuit assembly this weekend.

  he asked why.

  i just said after a long pause, dad it's not the truth (you have to understand that i'm the one who preached to this man and got him in the truth) the conversation lasted about 5 minutes with him saying well who else teaches the right thing, you have to understand, jehovah has to have an organization.

  This is the false assumption that enslaves JW's. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to believe that God has to have a printing company.

  One of the most pervasive myths that comfort JWs is that ``out there in the world'' there is nothing but darkness, self-interest and despair. They see everything outside their walls as a monolith of negativity, aned really believe they have a monopoly on decency, morality, honetly and industriousness.

  This is one of the reasons that it can be so hard for those of us who were raised in the JW religion to leave and adjust. We were raised with irrational fears and hatreds and as a result we can have a difficult time trusting "worldlings."

  celebration of birthdays...a matter of conscience?

  my family and i have argued about this for awhile now and i would like someone to confirm this.

  back in the late nineties at a district convention during the late sunday afternoon (yawn) symposium i swear i heard mention that the society now views the celebration of ones birthday to be a conscience matter and should be done with extreme caution so as not to affend others who may still view it as wrong.

  forgive me for not remembering which year it was that this was mentioned.

  I think many "spiritually mature" dubs do celebrate birthdays, but do it on the sly. One of my fellow employees is a dub while the rest of his family are worldlings. They celebrate his birthday, but I doubt he invites the elders from the hall for cake.
  My dub niece receives flowers every year on her birthday from a dub couple that formerly was in the circut work. This former CO usually gives a talk at the district assembly every year, so he is in good standing. I doubt he advertises what he does.

  The way I heard the story is that one of the surviving members of the Branch Davidians (or was it from Jonestown, Guyana?) was distraught over the death of David Koresh (or was it Jim Jones?) and he prayed that he could join another loving group which was god's only true organization, and just as he finished his "prayer" dubs showed up at his door.
