JWs Writers deserve to be in THE GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS!
by abiather inhow many mistakes one can make in understanding a simple statement of jesus?
take one sample statement:.
i say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with abraham, isaac and jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

Prayers that God answers. Any examples?
by punkofnice inwhen i believed in god i tried not to pray for anything selfish.. after a while i began to think that a lot of things i was asking my imaginary friend in the sky for were selfish for some reason.. i do not ever remember a single thing i prayed for ever being answered.
if there was the appearance of an answer it was because i did mental gymnastics to make it fit the delusion that god had actually answered me.
there was never an obvious message/answer from god.

At the risk of being ridiculed, I'll answer your question.....
I hate to say it because it does seem to open up a can of worms, and its so easy to read stuff people have experienced and say 'yeah right'
I was living in NZ at the time, and was down out and blubbering, I prayed to godto hear me and help me, withing minutes there was a knock at the door and a circut overseer, his wife and another witness were there I had lived there 2 years previously and never had a JW at the door, we were going camping near a place called whangarei and I desperately wanted to, after talking to them, find a khall up there, we drove around for a good half hour or more trying to find a phone book intact, than decided to stop at the servo and get some ice-the cold watery kind-and while my man was in there I said 'ok jehovah if you want me to know you, you have to show me where you are' well as I finished saying that i looked to the street corner we were on it said the name of the street and under it was kingdom hall Jehovahs witnesses. It freaked the both of us out, and I will never forget it, I think that and a few other 'personal experiences' was why it was so hard to let it go, I was not someone that just heard other people's tale's I actually experienced it. of course now after 2 years out and never going back, I have had to realise that shit happens and you just can't explain it.
Nowadays
I think of Tim Minchins song 'thank you god for fixing the cateracts of sams mum' and have to agree.

This site has been going for 13 years. Did you ever at one point fear armageddon?
by ILoveTTATT ini am just wondering about all of you who have been on this site for long.
in all of the events that have happened since 2000 (for example, september 11th), have you at any point, even you die-hard apostates, felt like "oooh sh!t... i should go back to the kh"... just to have the world survive the latest disaster?.
what was the worst event for you, in terms of saying... "did i mess up???

If and when I very rarely do have doubts.. I come here, I go to JW FACTS, I read, it soon dispells any gaslit fears that may surface.
We can hear things that trigger once held deeply rooted beliefs, but as soon as you start reading about all the false declarations of their precious truth and match it up with what you read on these 2 site's alone well...... They Got Nothing!!
BTW, thanks JWN and JWFACTS!

To the gullible jw who beleive (worship) the GB
by bobld inin this weeks wt study p20 para 17 the gb directive in part says "all of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not".
it behooves me,how anyone would obey such an organization, when you were told to preach and exhort people with a message(bible doctrine) for over a hundred years(and not question the message or the gb) only to find out the message was false.see wt july 15,2013 p8.-great tribulation did not begin in 1914.judgement of the sheep and goats did not begin in 1914.jesus arrival to appoint the faithful slave did not occur in 1919.wt 1984,1914 the generation that will not pass away.. in your clean christian conscience are you willing to obey such a vacillating organization.the proper thing to do is resign from this organization.
go apolize to the people for misleading them with a false message(doctrine).go preach the true gospel of jesus christ..

I have just had this conversation with 2 jws I have not seen for 4 years, it was confronting and felt uncomfortable but when they pulled out the bible and started preaching about who really is the faithful and discreet slave, being the GB, well thats when I had to pull out the false prophecies, doctrine's even showing them John 7.53s deletion from the new bible..... their response... The light keeps getting brighter, REALLY?
Actually you just have to feel sorry for the poor buggers that are so far indoctrinated with this vast buffet of bullshit.
Its not even satisfying letting jw's know ttatt, as sadly it was initially when I found out the ttatt. It now just make's me sooo bloody thankful I'm out, free and sane!!

The Greatest Show On Earth - A Book Summary In Many Parts
by cofty init was a number of years after i left the watchtower that i finally admitted to myself that i had never really investigated evolution.. i thought i was already an expert on the subject despite everything i knew about it coming form a source that was attacking the theory.
when i began to reserch evolution objectively i was astonished by the breadth an depth of the evidence.
i have been reading books and articles on the subject for around ten years now and always find it to be fascinating and inspiring.. a couple of years ago i began to write a summary of dawkin's book on the jws forum with the intention of helping any lurking jws who could not dare be seen reading the book for themselves.

Thank you for taking the time to put all this down.
It makes lot of sense.
I will be ordering a copy of The Ancestors Tale, the way you have put all this together is not only easy to grasp (well kind of) it makes me want to explore the whole evolutionary process..... very very interesting.

Why are atheists so intent on scorning "believers"?
by Chariklo inuntil recently, i had never encountered this word "believers" used as it is being used on this board, to describe pejoratively a group of people.
it's not clear to me whether they scorn all who have a faith of some sort.
do they include buddhists, hindus, followers of the baha'i faith, followers of the cargo cult, native americans along with christians, or is it just christians who are honoured with this epithet?.
