Bowling for Columbine
by drwtsn32 ini just watched this documentary tonight and enjoyed it.
it's amazing to me the number of gun-related murders in the us... over 11,000 in one year.
i don't remember the exact figure, but canada, japan, and germany combined had less than 500 gun-related murders.

I enjoyed this movie ( though I will have to rent it again because the DVD kept messing up ). What I want to know is how come my local bank isn't offering guns to those opening accounts!

How old were you when you got baptised???
by digderidoo in.
i was 15, quite old compared to some.. a friends child has just got baptised at 13.....to think that she knows what she wants for the rest of her life at that age seems ludicrous.. so, who here got baptised at the youngest age?.

Was it just my hall?
by freedom96 inmy wife and i joke about the differences in our own halls all the time.
i swear she lived in a country club compared to my hall.. just to give a couple of examples:.
and this is from when i was growing up until i left home at 18.. every single weekend was field service.

A couple halls I attended as a kid weren't so bad. Then, when I was 11 my mom had to go and marry a crazy witness two towns over so we had to move. That congregation was much like yours.I remember once they had a meeting just for teenagers, so the teens could be told how important it was to tell on each other if someone was doing wrong. That a true friend would be more concerned over their spirituality than friendship. So if you saw Becky holding hands with Tom, you better tell on them!
Never miss a meeting, even when on vacation.Never miss a meeting unless you were on your death bed. Never dance with a member of the opposite sex ( a 17 year old girl once danced with a boy at a wedding reception and got in HUGE trouble ). Must go in service Sat, and after meetings on Sun, and maybe one evening during the week. Basically, have no fun at all. Then, once they decided to have a get together at a skating rink, and that was considered a no no too. Funny it wasn't a no no for surrounding congo's. Mine just played by the book is all, as many did ( but others weren't so strict ).

What do you miss the most not being a witness anymore?
by JH inis there anything that you miss, since you don't belong to the jw's anymore?
friendship, family, or maybe just the feeling of belonging to some groupe that had you dreaming of a better world?

Are the JW's Bleeding Numbers?
by Loris incheck this out.
http://www.christianitytoday.com/le/2003/003/19.7.html .
jw's are the most likely to leave.

interesting........JW's have the highest percentage of people leaving ( 32 % ) but also the highest percentage of those joining ( 39 % ). Not that it really matters, JW's wouldn't put any credece on it anyway, since it didn't come from them ( although they may quote the 39 % joining, and forget to quote the percentage of those leaving ).
just a side note...did anyone see the ad to the right of this story for church chairs? I thought they were KH chairs!!! If only the good jw's knew they were sitting on Christendoms chairs!!

JW 'urban legends'
by Steve Lowry ini was thinking about some of the old jw urban legends that we grew up with and believed in as jws.
most of the ones i remember revolved around stories about demons, and jws being "attacked" when they would do something wrong.
some of these legends scared the crap outta me when i was little.

I heard a story about a pioneer sister who started a study with a woman who was a psychic, and she was having trouble getting rid of her Tarrot cards ( like she would throw them away and they would end up back in her house ), so they decided to burn the cards. When the sister threw the cards in the fire, the cards made a horrible screaming sound as they burned ( which took a long time according to the story ). I really believed this one. I was VERY frightened of the demons as a JW. Now I look back and laugh at it all.
