Greetings! From an Existent JW!

i'd like extend a greeting to all members of jwn.

i've been a lurking by-stander of this forum for approximately 6 months.

i think this forum's best moments can be attributed to the involvement of actual jw's in doctrinaire discussions and to heated (though not always dialectic) debates.

I love that senence and how you used the word cobble. I love words. I have just bought a book "How to Write a Sentence and how to Read One." I haven't had the oppotunity to read any of it yet, but an anxious to do so. Your sentence is concise and provides great imagery.

In a nutshell it taught that Jesus sacrifice at Calvary did not result in a finished work of atonement. According to Russell there was much more work to be done. Russell's doctrine of the "sin offering" is something that is in addition to the ransom sacrifice that Jesus provided. This "sin offering" would take the entire gospel age and would be finished when the last body member had died faithfully. The value of that "sin offering" would be presented to Jehovah just like Jesus sarifice.

FWFranz, I did not know this. That is a crazy and unscriptural doctrine. I will also read the book you mentioned. These discussions should prove to be interesting.

Welcome, and as others have said, your English is fine. I would be cautious about revealing any doubts to anyone. Some witnessess love to go and expose others. It's what they do. Makes them feel more righteous. I had a friend from Ethiopia. She was very educated. I lost touch with her, but she was a nice lady. I am surprised that jws let their children be educated by the Catholic Church. I guess they have their double standards.

repeat movies

there are a very small number of movies that i can watch more than once.

most get old after the first viewing.. there are very few movies i can watch over and again.. i love having a six pack of tall boys and watching "apocolypse now".. i love watching "tommy, the movie" on the rare occation that i have a doobie.. what movie would yoou reccommend as a "must own"or "must appreciate"?.

any opinions welcome.. .

Jefft, I love Shawshank Redemption too. My all time favorite is The Godfather 1,2, then Scent of a Woman. I love Al Pacino.

I've been thinking the Bible isn't legitimate--long indoor mat-rant

i'm not sure where this thought came from (believers will no doubt say 'from satan'), but it has started to coalesce in my brain lately.

i've often referred to the bible and argued from it to debunk jw beliefs, and still tried to consider it as a great piece of literature at the very least.

but as my wife was listening to the meeting on a loud speaker phone at home this weekend, i just had this thought.

I kinda came to that conculsion when I read "Misquoting Jesus." It is disappointing and a let-down when you begin to doubt the Bible. My brain tells me the Bible is just another book about he Jews and what they believed, but it's sad to give it up.

Do y'all celebrate Christmas in the same way every year?

like me, most of you never celebrated christmas when you were growing up or when you were raising your children.

because of this, i don't place a great importance on celebrating christmas.

i do love the holidays because everyone seems so happy and i like the hustle and bustle of it all.

I do love the holidays because everyone seems so happy and I like the hustle and bustle of it all. I also enjoy Chistmas and all the things that go along with the season, but sometimes I don't feel like buying presents just to be buying. Sometimes I buy a tree and sometimes I don't. This year I told my daughter that I was not going to buy any presents. She agreed not to buy me anything either. I do not need anything. Last year, we had a big Chistmas and it was great, but this year, I just don't feel like buying. I may or may not buy a tree but I will put up some lights. I know things are different if you have little ones. It's more exciting when you have little ones to buy toys for. I will probably just send fruit and cheese baskets from Harry and David's to all those I usually buy for. I was just wondering how all of you do Chrismas. We, or at least I, ended up so warped by being a jw all my life.

I am still a newbi and these threads go so fast, I don't know all the posters well, but I will give a few comments

compound complex - a great writer with a large and interesting vocabulary; and he's also an artist! Have learned a lot of new words reading his writings.

FlyingHighNow - very knowledgeable and kind lady. I always read her comments.

coffee_black - haven't seen a lot of her posts but I love her name. I think she has all her family out of the borg. Lucky her.

sammielee24 - interesting comments, knowledgeabe and has an interesting history/background.Have exchanged e-mails with him or his wife.

AK- Jeff - / Jimmy Page - both of these posters ask perceptive questions in their comments

snowbird - nice lady that helped me get on the trivia page. She has recently been playing and is very smart.

yknot - great comments and she is nice. Just read her comments on the ecomomy. She is upbeat.

ChristAlone - has been posting quite often and is also knowledgable. I always read his posts.

Theocratic Sedition - also a frequent poster, controversial poster but he make threads interesting.

Hortensia - new poster to me, as I am new. She appears to be a learned person.

tornapart - sensitive and sincere lady. Refused to go preach in a drug-ridden neighborhood. Smart woman. What were they thinking sending her there!

Vidiot - deep thinker. Went back and read some of his posts.

Quarterback - perceptive, not easily fooled. Asks the right questions.

ShirleyW - mischievous, and knowledgeable. Defends her position and knows a thing or two about a thing or two, what can I say, she's a New Yorker!

tiki - lovely lady that cares about others. She's nice.

nancy drew - great poet. Can write a poem at the drop of a hat.

Mr. Falcon - very nonchalant, 007 like.

There are so many intelligent and perceptive posters here. I wonder why I never met any smart jws before I got here? Some of you could intimidate me but I chose to learn from you rather that let myself be intimidated. I know as much as you'all about growing up and living as a jw, (except being an elder) but then there's all that other stuff on here you'all post about that makes me think "Oh! that's intense!"

PPanhandle Girl - I hope you arent checking your 401k balances daily or even weekly.....the ups and downs can drive you mad!! quarterly works....annually even better - you get a more realistic picture of the growth.

tiki, I only check it quarterly, but I keep up with the business news and what the markets are doing. I am also old and will probably have to work until my body gives out. Although, I don't mind working. My dad worked full time until the age of 75, he was afraid to retire because he thought he would die. Many of his retired coworkers died soon after retirement.

mrqick, I'm still paying in. I think you will be able to collect but I guess others won't. When my dad retired, five of us children were paying into the system, now I guess, there are not enough people paying in to sustain SS, although, I realize that the govenment is taking SS money for other purposes. Before things started going down the tube, I thought it was a good thing to allow non-citizens to work here and pay taxes so there would be more people paying into SS. Now, there are not enough jobs to go around for Americans. I hope things improve, even if the growth is slow.

I think the economy will get worse, especially if we keep spending and don't get the deficit under control. I know the markets are concerned about going over the fiscal cliff. I hope all three branches of the government work together and come to whatever compromises needed for the sake of the nation. I know my 401K lost a lot of money since last Tuesday, but the market is supposed to improve, at least that's what I hear. I do think the housings is improving some. I sure hope we don't continue losing jobs. McDonalds sales just dropped for the first time since 2003. Doesn't sound good.

so it was only my mother, two of my sisters and i that had to move.

you cant really play soccer by yourself.. i turn to the jws for friends but there were no kids my age and kids a few years older than me started to hate me.

i liked the elder saw him as my dad i didnt want to say no.

Very interesting story, atrapado. My jw family attend the Spanish Congrgations, and one is a DO in Cali. I like the name you chose for yourself. Looking forward to part 2 of your story.
