Advice to Lurking Newbies?
by sweet pea ini was thinking about how it's a shame that all our potential newbies, who are undoubtedly still visiting for the first time and reading, aren't able to register and ask for everyone's help and advice with things they are experiencing right now.. so, if you had a few words of wisdom, encouragement, advice, what would it be?.
i have a feeling someone i once knew may be watching...... my advice would be:-.
don't be afraid.. if truth is truth it will stand, if it is false it will fall.. you are among friends who will not judge or condemn you for daring to use your brain, open your mind and ask questions.

Ovation Guitar anyone?
by Simon ini used to play the guitar quite a bit but haven't practiced seriously for quite a few years (and left my guitar in the uk when we moved over here).. yesterday i decided i should get myself a guitar again so i popped into a music store and had a strum on a few.. the ovation guitars seemed really nice and not too expensive.
does anyone have one or have any experience of them?
i would love the electic one they do that can also sound acoustic but can't really justify spending so much so would probably get a regular wood / round-backed one.. thanks.

Personally I find Ovations uncomfortable to play when you are just sitting - not standing using a shoulder strap (which is most of the time)
Soundwise it's a matter of taste and there are obviously some great ones out there.
I play a Takamine Natural EAN70C. It's awesome . . .
(Can't get link to work - you'll have to google it!)

Time To Tell Your Story?
by sweet pea in.
it's now or never ladies and gentlemen.. why not use this as an opportunity for openness, enrich us with your story, leave a record for all eternity (hopefully).. according to randy (freeminds/dogpatch), the personal experiences are the most popular part of his site - people are looking for inspiration and to find someone with a similar experience.

Ex-JWs off the Radar?
by sweet pea inthis week i was contacted by an old friend of mine who was recently disfellowshipped.
i encouraged her to check out jwd for support, advice and friendship.
she had a brief look but said it wasn't really for her, she would rather just "move on and have fun!".

I agree with Hope4Others
I think that a lot who never find "The Truth about the WT" still think it's THE Truth" even if they choose to ignore it and there is always a chance that they'll go back.
Either that or they become fatalistic, "well I might as well enjoy myself cos I'm gonna get destroyed at Armageddon anyway . . ."
Middle ground - not sure. I'm not sure you can have it if you don't know the truth about the WT.
I agree you don't have to do the apostafest stuff tho . . .

Witnesses on the train
by Simon inthey are having their dc here in calgary at the pengrowth saddledome so this morning the lrt train was full of them.. what a spectacle.. guys in ill-filling suits (on a roasting hot day) and 22 year old women dressed like they are 42, all with their silly name badges and yapping on loudly (much louder than anyone else ever talks to each other on the train - i guess they have to be conspicuous eh?).
little did they know that sat just feet away from them was an evil apostate ... ooooh.

Hello! Is there a list of WTS changes since 1995?
by Mr. Ted ina young friend told me about this discussion forum.
i completely "stopped" being a jw around 1995. i was wondering if there is a succinct list -- somewhere on-line -- of changes/events that the wts has gone through in the last 12 years?
i haven't received any of the publications or really spoken with any jws in many years.

Hi Farkel LOL
Yes I know all that
What I meant was:
Before 2001 they told everyone that the UN was "The Disgusting Thing".
Then they got "caught" as NGO's
They said "we weren't supporting the UN we just needed a library card"
What I was wondering was:
Since 2001 have the WT said IN PRINT "Oh and by the way - we STILL think the UN is "The Disgusting Thing" ? -

Do Jehovah's Witnesses LOVE their enemies?
by Terry injesus' message differs from every other religious leader of his day in that he encouraged his followers to love their enemy.. are jw's encouraged to love their enemies?.
they aren't allowed to even pray for disfellowshipped former brethern although they are stray sheep.
you'll recall jesus said that a fine shepherd would even leave the 99 sheep to go after and return with the "stray".. how do jw's love their enemies?.

Would I be correct in saying that since the 2001(?) UN NGO stuff they haven't said in print that the UN is the "disgusting thing"?
I don't have a WT CD-ROM so I can't (be arsed) checking . . .
It just occured to me that although they have defended their position on becoming an NGO to get a library card (ROFL) I don't recal them re-iterating their "The UN is the Disgusting Thing" stance.
Anyone checked?
