Special assembly day

i attended a local special assembly day yesterday.

didn't seem like too much had changed overall.

however, i've got some questions.. 1) when did the society decide to revert to allowing witnesses to study more than one book with their bible studies?

Either they lessen the number of meetings, or the publishers will lesson their load themselves and cut out where they need to.

That's what I did. I reduced my meeting attendence to zero. Never felt better and more refreshed, btw!

Meetings

do you think the wts will ever reduce the number of meetings per week, maybe drop one night a week?

just curious!

it seems that everyone is so whipped from working all day, i really think that's why there is such a drop in meeting attendance.

Remember when the speaker for the Public Talk didn't turn up, and the elders decided to just cut straight to the WT Study and leave it to that, how everyone would be happy about the "early mark", and enjoy the extra time to socialise with each other, rather than be stuck listening to a talk that most would forget the title of by the time they got home?

For Gianluca, and any paranoid Aussies out there..

I met OlderTom and ozziepost at the bbq we had 2 weeks ago, and they are genuine people who are not Society moles!

But then again, why would you want to trust me? I might be the mole, about to dob in OT and ozzie! Or ozzie might be the mole, about to dob in OT and me! Or uncle bruce might be the mole.....

No, seriously, we had the bbq and there was absolutely no judicial meeting. In fact, we had a great time swapping stories, experiences and thoughts. As well as enjoying a great Aussie bbq!

if someone asked you that, you might reach for the tract "jehovah's witnesses what do they believe?".

as we know after many years in the watchtower society, brooklyn loves to tell us how incredibly happy jehovah's witnesses are:.

13 of course, the fact that jehovahs servants weep over the sorry state of world affairs does not preclude their being happy.

If you still attend meetings, look around you and try to find a happy-looking person among them. I used to do that when I was attending. It was quite sad to observe the boredom, blank stares and misery reflected in their faces.

i spoke with my sister last night back in ny about this whole jw thing.

(she is da'd).

we were discussing my pregnancy and the fact that my mom hasn't even bothered to say anything except for the fact that since i'm 'inactive with doubts' the baby would die at armegeddon anyway.

I fully agree with you. If I had children, I would never abandon them despite what religion they chose to follow (even the WTS, lol!)

And congrats on the pending arrival of your little one. When is it due?

Evidence of "Independent Thinking"

you need some history to understand what i have to tell.

i have two grown sons.

son1 is single and a staunch jw whose goal for years has been to go to bethel and to become a missionary.

scams scams and more scams

i wonder why it took me so long.. veniceit posted a link in her story on her sight to this article, which i scanned into text and repost here.

the point being, that this is one scam to make money by the borg.

it was not uncommon for us to hold off counting some of the money towards the end of the assembly so as to show a deficit that could be reported to the assembly so as to motivate people to give more money.

Thought this was worth high-lighting and repeating.

BTW, I was in the Accounts Dept on the Sunday evening after the District Convention a few years ago. (The only sister amongst MS's and Elders!) I can vouch for the armed guards thing. We put all the money (after being counted 3 times) into a safe, and the safe was loaded into a truck driven by a local security firm. As Jeff S said, it was quite a production!
